Consoles that don't play used games and require every game t

Ready for the future? It's coming.

I will never buy a console that does that. Ever. Are companies in the gaming industry trying to commit suicide?

You just know that there'll be plenty of sheeple that will bend over for it though.

We can at least maintain our principles.

Shh, shh. Let it happen. The sooner the video game industry has another catastrophic crash, the sooner it can recover into a second golden age and return to its roots.

Who needs them fancy games when we can create our own games right here, at BGSF? Instead of getting promoted to a new rank after some service, you gain respect around here instead! Power to text based games!

It's also statistically proven that forum games can be millions times cheaper as well :)

This industry is kind of messed up. Good studios are always being taken out, creativity can be often stifled and it's hard to get a good return on a AAA game since so much goes into cutscenes and marketing.

Don't worry it is what the gamers want... or what the companies tell you what you want.

there have been reports and rumors that both sony and microsoft are looking into technology that would allow them to kill the used game market, by preventing used games being used on their consoles, and essentially get paid 2 times or more for each "physical" unit sold.

I'm personally excited about such a change. Make consoles more like PC's so there's no reason not to play PC's. Increase the PC gaming community. Produce games focused more on PC hardware. Seems like everyone wins to me.

As a side note Used games aren't legally able to be sold in Japan. Government enforced anti-used games.

i imagine that it will happen eventually, its what the computer games market basically is, where every game has to be verified with steam (or whatever) even if you buy it in a pretty disk format. Maybe not the next system but the one after that will probably be

If those rumors are true then I will gladly get rid of my xbox and go straight to PC gaming. If Sony and Microsoft are smart they wouldn't do that.

To the PC, where the used game market has already been crushed! Yeah!

I was thinking of that, too. And it will happen. Almost everyone I've talked to feels the same way. Spurning economic demand is very, very stupid, and i will have zero sympathy during the natural cleansing purge.

Why exactly are they against used games? Don't they still get profits off them?

both companies stand to majorly profit from such an action because the majority of people will still buy their consoles, they willingly drag their own credability through the mud and depend upon the ultra hype of modern games like skyrim. Not only that but you are going to see even more exclusive titles, fully or limited time. Simply because the majority of gamers are like that futurama meme, they will throw their money at you.

Who? The developers and/or publishers? They don't get a single cent out of used game sales. Retailers? They don't sell used games due to said developers/publishers making used PC games half worthless by including often single-use online/registration codes, which is what they're trying to do to consoles now.

Oh, I'm not excusing anything. I was just poking fun at the superiority complex people sometimes puff up with when talking about people that don't see the world the way they do.

Well if that's the future of console gaming, then count me out. Every game digitally downloaded? That's just taking the piss.

1983. Some blame the horrible Atari port of Pac Man, others blame E.T., most blame both and the horrible practices that the industry had at the time. Might have stayed dead if Nintendo hadn't revived it with the NES.
