Could someone please explain why 2 houses are now destroyed

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 5:08 pm

i find it hilarious how the stormcloaks bring catapults to capture a podunk little town, and then only end up hitting the houses of a random civilian and a preacher who actually supports them.

Not exactly good for their image, is it?

It's too bad the game didn't come with a town/hold restoration option like in AC2 Brotherhood. It would've been a nice side quest to buy these buildings from the current Jarl Steward and set about restoring them to their former glory.

Even better is getting a new gameplay option to run it as a hostel and let the homeless or beggars move in and live there

I was so hoping for this after the war, I wanted to be a part of the "rebuilding". Instead I just leave for a day or two and they repair most of it....though if I had control the city would be in much better shape afterwards.

Well , they could have been much more realistic and smash the walls and your house along with it not to mention the blacksmith and the drunken huntsman right there at the front where it would actually make more sense. In my game the rubble around the houses eventually got cleared up but the houses themselves remain inaccessible.

Spoiler
You are in a section dedicated to Spoilers, Hints and Cheats. Why are you here if you don't want to read them?

Anyhow, I find it ironic that just yesterday there was a discussion about the fact that nothing a player does impacts the world and here we are, complaining that war breaks houses. I'm not sure (will check tonight) but I think if you play imperial side it either gets repaired or never damaged. Or I might not have noticed the damage. Lol.

It got moved there from the general board by a mod after he complained. Herp derp!

Yeah, I noticed the house. I also got the inheritance, no idea why, I never even did a quest for him, why did he give me some inheritance money?

Also, Heimker is still in whiterun afterwards for me. I think I noticed a tent by the shrine, maybe he lives in that now?

Yeah, see, there's no way to know that if you find the thread from the Cheats, Hints, and Spoilers board. I read that board a lot more often than General Discussion, and it took me a while at first to figure out why a bunch of the posts are full of "OMG! MY EYES! YOU MADE ME SEE A SPOILER!" posts when there's no other indication the post was ever anywhere else.

From General you get the nice little "we moved this thread" arrow but from the other side it just looks normal. Herp derp! :P

QFT, I hate how everything is fixed by mods for the PC users, that way Beth don't have to bother and console players lose out

But let's not detract too far from that, I almost got in trouble for starting to mention consoles in other threads as it can just become a flame war.

Sad thing is consoles account for more units sold then pc, but we get treated like step children.

All of thee houses are preserved on my storm cloak character, several are destroyed on my imperial character.

Side note, the battle for whiterun was 10x more enjoyable as a stormcloak. The limit on npc count just hurt the imperial experience much more. Just standing by the gate killing stormcloaks as they slowly stream in was so dull compared to standing among the catapults firing into the city and charging through the gates and in to town.

Then it got dumb when storm cloaks arrested me in thee keep because I accidentally hit a civilian while fighting the jarl. *face palm*

Console users do actually get more attention from Bethesda than PC users, but for PC users, the modding community can fix most problems that Bethesda chooses not to, whereas for console users, they have to just take what Bethesda gives them.

But anyway, I don't mind that some houses in Whiterun are inaccesible after doing the civil war questline. What I do mind is that the Thieves Guild quest givers will still send you to try to steal things from these houses. Granted, you can just quit the job if, for example, Vex tells you to steal something from Heimskr after his house is already destroyed, but she shouldn't be asking in the first place.

Exactly that is what I was trying to say. Myself I have to save before talking to Vex or Delvin in order to avoid that.

Also @ Mahligros and Federally, exactly it's really such a shame. If you're going to break it in a game especially in a WORKING city you should at least repair the damage over time. It's very furstrating.

It would have been awesome if we could have become Jarl of whiterun after the battle. Then let us fix the town with our money!

Kind of like Fable 3? Now that was a system! You could repair what your brother did not, an entire livelyhood city on top of the damages to the mainland of albion. But In Skyrim Nords destroy Nord housing and never repair unlike the other races. They can't even repair winterhold after 80 years of those buildings being destroyed makes me wonder how their buildings can last for so long.

Never played Fable 3.

You forgot to point out how much of a dump windhelm is.

Yes, Like I think I remember a quest (Probably still in the civil war questline too) Where you were tasked with taking over a building, the reason being that its just cheaper and more convient than building somewhere new.

I accept TES is not set in the industrial age, but can we not have a couple of new buildings atleast? Like in markarth they just settled into a Dwenmer ruin, and 90% of the forts around the game were built in the first or second era and are moulding stone. Thats one of my biggest problems with the skyrim, apart from the rebelion and dragons everything else is ancient history dating back to the 1st/2nd era, nothing intreasting happened in skyrim during the 3rd Era that I can find, you can't even find little cracks in the ground where oblivion gates opened up, and the only thing worth noting between the 3rd anf 4th era is the dominion-empire war.

Maybe they're too lazy. They don't want to unload their ships either. They should hire few Argonians to fix their houses.

Ya us Argonians are the only ones who pull their weight around here!
(Been Argonian since Arena - Elder Scrolls 1.. a lot of change to the race!)

That too. In fact unless it's one of those high end houses the rich have then it will be full of holes even the middle class of windhelm live in buildings that are falling apart.

@Mahligros

I know. They may not be living in the industrial revolution type age but the very least they can start rebuilding and adding new buildings/fixing what is already there instead of showing the world that the nords as an overall race are a bunch of slobs when it comes to taking care of their buildings and areas of living. I wonder how the various skyrim towns have survived for many eras without all being destroyed. From the lore it seems riverwood and rorikstead are the two newest villages.
