Could someone please explain why 2 houses are now destroyed

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 2:01 pm

I'm not sure if this has something to do with restoring the gildergreen or the civil war, but this is the second time I have seen these two houses destroyed.

Saverio Palagia's house Before Gildergreen restoration/ joining a side of the civil war: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v43/unokitsune/Anotherhousebeforegildergreen.jpg

Saverio Palagia's house After restoration of the Gildergreen/finishing imperial side of civil war:

Heimsker the loud mouth nuisance talos monk, his house before gildergreen and war:

Heimsker the loud mouth nuisance talos monk, his house after gildergreen and war:

Is it the war or the gildergreen that does this? And these two stay that way for the rest of the game :(

If you did the civil war already..
Regardless of what side you join, the opposing side will use catapults which will demolish those houses, apparently.
And yes they will stay that way. As far as I know at least.

Ahh. Do these houses ever get fixed at all? I know Windhelm repairs itself though with no real lasting damage

They stay that way, unfortunately.

That makes no sense. Pelagia is a good man earning an honest living, heimsker though is a nusiance. Thieves guild do have you go into those two homes randomly though for whiterun runs. That's very frustrating and it looks so ugly :(

Why do nords not repair, why!?

Maybe they're too lazy. They don't want to unload their ships either. They should hire few Argonians to fix their houses.

NPC laziness maybe? lol
Same with Windhelm for me, got tired of seeing the same guard always standing behind a fallen over arch every time I went to the smith or the alchemy shop. It was...creepy. Especially how no one seemed to know it was there.

They should and repair winterhold while they're at it or they could hire Khajiits too.

@ Blackfox, not sure of this arch you speak of I'll have to look next time I'm there.

i find it hilarious how the stormcloaks bring catapults to capture a podunk little town, and then only end up hitting the houses of a random civilian and a preacher who actually supports them.

i mean really, what were they aiming for, dragonsreach? it doesnt have any real defenses. the only thing they could need the catapult for was the gates and walls at the front of the city, but they werent aiming anywhere near there, or else they had really god awful aim.

I so hate this in games. Its happened a few time in various games during the main quests.

Maybe they'll repair them as an added little extra in a expansion / dlc.

In Oblivion I was so hoping that Kvatch was going to get rebuilt as that would've been so cool to see

Solitude is the capital, and by real-world standard, it's merely a whole avenue, let alone a capital

Whiterun, scaled up to match Solitude's scale as a capital, is quite a big city

Perhaps when the CK is out, someone will mod the hell out of those houses and simply change them back to the previous, pre-war state ;)

mhhh, isn′t that a "minor" spoiler? Didn′t play the civil war so far but now know what happens = Whiterun under siege.

He did in my game on the Stormcloak arc. I didn't know about it until I got his inheritance. Heimskr just doesn't give a **** as long as he can worship Talos. You talk to him about the occupation and he is elated.

Welcome to the world of dumbfire weaponry. This is why countries in the geneva convention avoid using unguided weapon systems in areas with civilians... the catapult users didn't CHOOSE to attack those houses because they had a beef with the owner, they shot unguided projectiles into the city and, well svcks to be in the way.

Anyhow, I find it ironic that just yesterday there was a discussion about the fact that nothing a player does impacts the world and here we are, complaining that war breaks houses. I'm not sure (will check tonight) but I think if you play imperial side it either gets repaired or never damaged. Or I might not have noticed the damage. Lol.

Mine weren't even damaged when I did this quest for the stormcloaks, some of the barriers never went away though.
Maybe you can have alot more impact in the world then it seems, the scripts just fail to run 90% of the time. Not a great example of impact on the world though your actions though.

It was posted under general discussion otherwise i wouldn′t have mentioned it :-)

The point about complaining is that this impact isn′t finished. Like in Oblivion here is something destroyed but has never been rebuilt? See Kvatch oder the Imperial City. There would be a consequent impact if after a fight there would be repairs. But here Whiterun will stay "destroyed" and this is destroying parts of the atmosphere because your actions (helping, defending etc.) have no power.

My apologies then. Perhaps moderators should learn to at least just post "Moved from General" or something to avoid confusion.

To be honest, I do believe this is a bug because I checked and all my houses are in tact in Whiterun after the war. I don't think Beth intended for them to stay broken.

It's too bad the game didn't come with a town/hold restoration option like in AC2 Brotherhood. In AC2 you could rebuild the city of Rome and restore it to it's former glory. It would've been a nice side quest to buy these buildings from the current Jarl Steward and set about restoring them to their former glory.

Even better is getting a new gameplay option to run it as a hostel and let the homeless or beggars move in and live there
