Couldn't the voice actors have attempted doing different voi

Perhaps someone can put the voice files through a synthesizer and make them deeper or higher, depending on the NPC. Would make for a cool mod.

Well voice actors are a lot of money to pay and there's like how many characters in the game? There not gonna pay for 2000 actors.

Cheers

I just wish they would have kept each voice actor exclusive to a single race, like it was in Oblivion. I find it annoying to sometimes hear a Breton talking in a certain tone and accent and then come across a Dunmer who is being done by the same VA in the same voice.

Well, voice actors are capable of changing their voice, so that's irrelevant.

Anyone know who's the guy that does The Archmage's voice? If you haven't heard him then there is another NPC everyone hates - Nazeem. Who does their voice? And the voice of Lucien Lachance's spirit?

Anyone?

It didn't bother me. Somehow I wasn't too bothered by Oblivion's lack of voice actors either.

Most of the time I'm so into it that I don't notice.

*7 voice actors for Oblivion* OH MAH GAWD SO B@D
*70 voice actors for Skyrim* OH MAH GAWD SO B@D

Nothing to see here folks, move along.

/facepalm

What's the point in having over 70 voice actors if the game only utilizes 5 of them?

Not only that, the different voices you hear all have the same lines... I started playing Fallout 3 again recently and I can't believe how much of a breath of fresh air the diversity of the voice acting is. Sure you get a few repeats, but very rarely are they just the same scripted lines of dialogue.

This game man... the more I play it the more flaws start to rear their ugly heads... I guess it's an obvious choice for Game of the Year when 2011 has been such a letdown.

This post is "this" in disguise. Skyrim starts to show quite a few flaws that have kept me from playing it for the past 2 weeks.

Agreed on main topic. Standing around in an Imperial camp for more than a few minutes is mentally taxing. There we have Gideon Emery, talking to himself. Asking himself how he ended up in the Legion. Over, and over. :cryvaultboy:

I'm fairly content with "better than Oblivion". After all, it's a LOT better than Oblivion. I can somewhat get past the fact that the voices could have been way more varied. But since they apparently wanted to record just a few random hollers for a total of 100 characters or so (for example, "It's a fine day with you around", uttered by a whole lot of ladies around Skyrim), the voices couldn't be that different or they'd have to DO MORE RECORDINGS, gods forbid.

yes, they really need to change that for the next game, they have the money..

it just adds an even deeper level of repetition that takes you out of the experience,

The voices are good (For the most part), despite not being numerous.

In oblivion, the voices weren't just a small amount, but they were also bad. Atleast in Skyrim, the speech seems more natural.

I have no problem with Skyrim's voices, especially when compared with Oblivion. I still miss the Dunmer gravelly voices, but they're there to some extent. There's even some Dunmer slang. The guards are all the same because they don't have names - they're just "riften guard" etc. I'm fine with that. I wish the orcs sounded more orcy but for the most part, well done.

The voice of Ri'saad makes up for most drawbacks in the voice-over department <3

Voices are still shared among races. Get more than 6 times the number of voice actors from Oblivion, yet they don't fix the actual problems (and even make it worse by not having distinctive voices; you can pretty much copy any voice onto any other race, and it won't sound out of place). Hear a Nord speak, then turn around and hear an Imperial speak with the same voice. Good job. Also quite annoying how they got rid of most of the voice actors from previous games that were actually good, so we can get hackjobs like Farengar, Farkas, Aela, "Arnold", and that heavily accented woman, who are barely doing anything more than reading lines, or Jim Cummings who sounds incredibly fake. And of the three that are kept, they heavily limit their roles.

Quality, not quantity, is what matters here. Bethesda really lost sight of that. Too concerned with getting moar voice actors, that they didn't make sure to get good voice actors who sound authentic and fitting to their roles, and to have those roles clearly defined. Skyrim's voice acting is more horrendous than Oblivion's, and that's saying something.

False dichotomy. We don't need 2000 voice actors. Hell, we don't need ANY more voice actors. Bethesda just needs to do a better job of using the ones they have. When you've supposedly got 60-70 voice actors that you're using, there's no reason NPC voices should be dominated by 4-5 of them.

It's frustrating because to me, it's an issue that could be addressed pretty easily with a little more time and effort on the part of Bethesda. This is a game with a massive budget. Why would you want to cut corners on voice acting? It's an integral part of immersion in any RPG. Hearing the same voices and same dialogue for every other character reminds me that I am indeed playing a video game, and that's not what you want from any game, let alone one of the best RPGs of our generation.

Bethesda dropped the ball in general when it comes to dialogue and voice acting. Our characters have nothing interesting to say and we have little choice of how any conversation will go. That's for a seperate thread, though.

The only thing that bothers me about voices in skyrim is when a npc will have a different voice sometimes, that is lazy.

it would have been nice and made sense, so of course it didn't happen.
it would have been nice and made sense to assign a personality to generic npc's (like guards) so that they didn't wind up saying something completely hypocritical and/or contradictory. Ex: a guard with a greatsword saying he prefers one-handed weapons.

heh~ I know right.....Well how many voices does Oblivion have like 5-8? So doesn't Skyrim have like 11? lol To Bethesda that's an improvement I guess but after 50 hours of gameplay everybody sounds like Farkas or Lydia.

Oh for [censored] sake...

People cried about them having the same six voice actors for years, so they listened and got some more, but now THATS not good enough either!

If they gave you the power to levitate in REAL LIFE, you would cry and complain that you felt cheated because you couldn't levitate high enough.

Seriously boys, stop worrying about the game you don't like (but still play all day) and start figuring out whats wrong with YOU.

This is a discussion forum where people post their thoughts, both positive and negative, on the game in question. If you have a problem with that then you don't understand the purpose of an internet forum.

Of all the people in this thread I would say that you are the one with issues.

Edit: Your signature is great irony.

Just hearing Sheogorath and his dialogue again made the game. As for the voices did not really bother me much for the generic guys. Most of the unique quests for factions and stuff had specific voice actors. If anyone is curious here is a link to IMDB to see that there is in fact actually 70 voice actors. Mind you some of the voice acting may have went to the sounds of the various animals/creatures and grunts of Skyrim.
