In the parents' blog, they admitted they expected the kid to go by his middle name, Tom.

Why didn't they call his first name Tom then?

If you'll read the parents blog article about this, they were looking for a unique name and then heard of this contest. They gave him a normal middle name that he can go by if it becomes an issue. ("Tom" I think)

If Bethesda is still around many years from now the kid can at least say.

Eye-rolling because they made it his first name and not his middle? It's a cultural phenomenon. There's no wrong or right in this.

I go by my middle name. So does my dad and one of my sisters. Who cares if he's Dovahkiin Thomas or Thomas Dovahkiin. I knew a guy whose first name was Royal, as in Royal John Doe. I knew another guy whose first name was Captain, as in Captain John Joe Doe. And how about this guy:

Don't prophesy this kid a bad future. His name means "dragonborn." That's pretty frikkin awesome. Be glad the couple didn't name their kid Mehrunes.

It's sad to see that this couple are more concerned about getting free games from bethesda for life than they are about the seriousness of having a child that relies on them to make responsible decisions for him in his young life.

It reminds me of the stupid Aussie couple who named their girl "Tula-Lula does the Hula". I was actually glad when a judge down their made them give her a normal name.
We should be able to name our kids whatever they hell we want. If you don't like it it's not like you can't ever change it.

My son's name is Seraphim Alexander (We call him Phim) but he goes by Seraph at school/with friends. He's 12, pretty popular, gets good grades and is as well adjusted as any 12 year old I've ever known.

My ex has a son named Baal (like as in Diablo 2, or the Sumerian God, your choice) and he's fine too.

Everybody gets picked on for something, that's life, it's how you deal with it (and as a parent, how you teach your kids to).

Yeah, but you chose these names because you liked them. They chose this name because it got them free games.

There's a huge difference.

Dohvakiin is a sweet name. I'd like to called Dohvakiin. For short the kid could go by Dohva or something. And the meaning is real cool. It would work even better if say the family heritage was Scandinavian or something along those lines.

Why i'm Danish and Dohvakiin doesnt mean anything in danish, and i'm pretty sure its the same for swedish and norwegian.

Not to mention it doesnt even sound scandinavian.

Dohvakiin Knudsen

Dohvakiin Jensen

Dohvakiin Peterson

Dohvakiin Johansen

Dohvakiin Hansen

Dohvakiin Mortensen

Stop me when it sounds right :P

I don't see this as bad. But he'll more than likely get a lot of flak from kids at school.

This, I doubt most people would know what it means anyway.
And if he doesn't like the name he could just use Tom.

I see no problem with this.

I agree with this. I think it's really cool that Beth is giving the family free games for life.
