Is everyone using Windows XP SP3 here? I was reading the Steam forums and I'm starting to think it's the culprid.

I'm using SP3, but there is no way I'm messing with Windows. Windows is another dog you don't want to be around at feeding time. Especially since the game "requirements" specifically mention XP SP3 is compatible.

Well, I can't even play RAGE, after the cutscene of the asteroid crashing into the Earth, it goes to a black screen to load, and never gets passed that, it then crashes. My PC specs are:

Intel Core i7 965 EE
6GB DDR3
Radeon HD 4870 X2 w/ Catalyst 11.9 (not in CrossFire)
1kW PSU
1TB (x2) HDD
Rampage II Extreme
Windows Vista x64

try setting antialiasing to NONE and then start the game. the same problem occured to me also ...found the solution from someone in this forum

Well, that didn't work, still won't get passed that cutscene, and it's crashing Catalyst; this is really pissing me off!

I am thinking of trying the driver they released for Win7, even though I have Vista, just to see if that works, if not id better go back to the drawing board and get off their asses and look into all the issues we are having!

EDIT: Well, one good thing, at least I get to test out SWTOR this weekend, and continue to play the other games that I have that actually work, unlike this complete piece-of-sh.it-waste-of-fu.ck.ing-money!

Well, decied to try the performance driver, which is essentially one of AMD's hotfix drivers for Catalyst...it didn't work, after the cutscene, on to a black screen and then Catalyst crashes, but no error messages.

Same here...I am SO sick of that cut scene. I have a Radeon 6750. I tried everything from this so called good new driver to all the hair brain work arounds people post but nothing works! I AM DONE...this has taken over my life today and for what a game...DONE until they address the real issue! Just imagine me getting this game and expecting it to work!

How dare you to expect someone else to value your $60. I mean, you don't really expect the product you purchase to work do you?!

Very true...how dare I expect a working game. I hate shooters on my PS3 but um um it is playable I bet! I emailed Steam to ask for a refund or credit and they said make sure my drivers are updated LOL good customer service!

NVIDIA just automatically updated me to their beta 285 for XP which I could only find for Win7 yesterday, but that hasn't helped at all. How can they release a game without making sure it's compatible with NVIDIA and ATI? It really makes no sense. A lot of people are blaming the video cards, but they've been there, the game should have been designed with them in mind, not the other way around. Could you imagine if you had to wait for updated drivers every time a new game was released?

Crashes after intro cinematic. Trying Skidrow's crack, because someone said it worked. If it doesn't, I'm going to wait for updates, because Id seriously f*cked up here. I'm furious.

I've been playing multiplayer the last couple of hours, both buggies and combat. Obviously, the problem with the cutscene isn't with the video card. It would be nice to hear from Beth or Id on this point.

So it stands to reason that I came here looking for a solution to the exact same problem...

Just chiming in with my frustration on this release as well... go thru the intro, walk around the pod, open the door to leave and crash as soon as it begins loading the outdoor textures... really? I'm with the other uber-computer owners in the forum here, and must say that it's sad you can release a game that has so many obvious problems. What, did they forget to check if it worked before selling it?
Anyway, just had to vent and throw more complaints at the utter failure they have given me... Here's my specs:
i7 970 (hex-core) @ 3.6ghz
6gb (tri-channel) Corsair RAM @ 1800mhz
(2) 6870 in CFX (trying disabled... but come on...) w/BF3 beta drivers... tried with and w/o RAGE "optimization" to no avail.
750w Corsair psu

Looks like were stuck until new drivers come out. Guess I'll go crank the settings on Metro 2033 and play that for a while while I wait... weak.

Same issues here !!!

As soon as i get out of the drop ship pod the game crashes almost straight away. It just completely freezes and i have to ctrl alt del out of the game.

Even BF3 runs fine

As people have said this is extremely dissappointing... Guess we all will have to wait for some updated drivers hopefully before the weekend

ive downloaded the catalyst driver but it still doesnt work

Steam offered me a one time credit of 60 bucks and the game is removed from my library...I took it! I will say the game title is accurate...I know have a lot of Rage at this game and I want to scream when I see that opening movie! It is bad enough I can not get this game working but to make me watch that god awful movie is crazy!!! May we all live to see another day...

Still no update on this? I get the same error other people in here are. Crashing as soon as I change a display setting once in game. Anyone know if there is a listing of launch options? I know by entering in +r_fullscreen 0 you can at least make the game windowed mode by default. If I could use another code to change the resolution before I launch the game we'd have a work around that would at least allow us to try the game before we return it.

I can confirm that this works. Previously my game was crashing after the intro 100% of the time, tried various drivers, drivercleaner, loads of differnet gfx settings, underclocking cpu and nothing could get me past the intro.
Community managers can you pass the info onto the devs asap, cant believe us paying customers have to go to pirates to get a working exe.

I get the after-cinematic crash. I used the command line '+com_skipIntroVideo 1' and it stopped the asteroid movie from playing... however the game still crashes at that point.

Playing multiplayer works just fine, actually pretty good except I can see the textures slowly rezzing in when I enter a new area, but the gameplay is good with only the occasional hitch.

So.. something about single-player game is making it crash.

Today I buy game, install and try start...but I can's see even intro.....every time game crash....

Hmm i just wanna hear if it's only me who crashes when the intro is over. But could it have something to do with my graphic card? Because my graphic card is an ATI HD 5750 and yes i've downloaded the last performance driver
