Crysis 2 offline MP against bots?

Post » Mon Jul 26, 2010 1:51 am

Greetings! Some may know me from the InCrysis community so first of all I would just like to say hi to everyone!!

I was just wondering if Crytek can look into creating an offline MP mode where you can play against AI controlled bots at different difficulty levels.

Unfortunately not all people (like myself) has a decent internet connection to play the online MP, so if we can have this I will be really happy. Sure it is not as awesome as playing against other people, but it is better than nothing. It is also a good feature you can use to hone your skills and getting to know the maps before going online.

Doing something like this is possible, Killzone 2's offline MP (aka "Skirmish") is a brilliant example. You just choose the amount of bots, the AI difficulty level, the map, your faction, your class, your weapons and your good to go. The AI of the bots on the higher difficulty levels is fantastic and really challenging, I'm still enjoying this feature of the game even to this day.

Just a suggestion, thanks! :P

agreed, something i miss from all the way back from Quake3 arena. When that game was around, all i had the option of was dial up, and it was impossible to play others (part from the rare time with lan and two pc's). The bot play to replace humans, if the bots are done properly...is still fun. I think they should try programming such in the MP levels, could be hard given the complex variations possible from nano suit stuff... maybe someone after can do a mod and get it happening

Meh, I'm not too big on bots. If you don't or can't play multiplayer all the time, then you can always hop in the singleplayer and shoot some enemies there.

Have to agree I like the idea, I wasnt even online when Red Faction 2 came out, and it wes great to go into the Bot Match mode, and set up some competition, for an all out fight.

I didnt care about the poor graphics at that time I handet seen what was to come, but it had quite a few levels and good content for the timeframe, and passed on a few good hours.

Good idea, is it doable? :-]

This idea was also made in Killzone 2, it would be pretty fun playing with bots in MP style.

MP with bots is a oximoron(however you spell that),just call it skirmish, that word is not invented by killzone.
and you could do it in every crytek game with the sandbox editor which will be included with crysis 2(at least in the PC version).it's very easy to place some AI in the map and shoot them.

They did let bots use the suit in crysis 1, at the graveyard where the vtol picks you up to bring you to the warzone where you destroy the aa's and blow up the boat in the harbor...

With sp they aim for big masses of enemies that are weaker than you in most cases :P

Some people want to play in MP style, but with AI instead of real human players. I can see it as a fair reason. Some people like Skirmish modes since in most cases, everything will be different every time you play a new match.

well they have been bragging about their AI being "The best AI to come to the FPS", so hopefully they do include it.

Agree.

I read something on a game called Brink which has great AI, played it at QuakeCon it was rad!, and it has something on its MP a thing called AutoBalance so that when rage quitters leave, suddenly bots will fill in.

The AI is a setpiece in that game so I know for a fact that the AI Bots will be something that could rival human players.

I don't play a lot offline, but it would be very good, And even better that i wouldnt need to play the singleplayer for the 20th time when something happens to the internet. I could kill some enemys to pass the time

Sure it's your connection and not the host?
American host tends to dominate most games, leading foreign players to beleive the lag is caused by their connection, when it's just latency.
To be clear, I don't hate America, I don't hate Americans,
I just hate your host.

In my experience, Europe has more dedicated servers for the Crytek games. Also, hosts can't do anything about latency as long as their upload speeds can take the client loads.

i agree they should put bots in the multiplayer for people who have bad online connection its only fair that people have fun on and offline :). i just hope the player can get xp to level up on offline multiplayer with bots because killzone screwed up there and since we want to play crysis 2 for the next 5 years as our fps this would be a good addition :)

But search preferences can.
A feature most games don't have or care about sadly.
