Dawnguard Plotline Theory

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 2:52 am

Just a theory about the plotline for Skyrim's newest piece of DLC. Based off of the trailer and the many interviews during E3, I blieve that the plot will go something like this;

Spoiler

The Vampire lord wants to block out the sun. This much I believe is odvious. In order to do soo, he will need to sacrifice his own daughter (as stated in the interviews). This puts him at ends with his wife who, dispite potentially condeming all vampires, will not allow her daughter to be sacrificed. During the main questline, I believe that you will have the option of either helping the father or the mother in their goals (or even the daughter). If you help the father, you are rewarded with a number of vampire related goodies and some new title. The main plus would be that you can now go into the daylight as a vampire without taking any sun damage or suffering any penalties. If you help the mother, she dies near the end (after defeating the father). This leaves you in a position to marry the daughter and become the new vampire lord. The sun is still a treat, but now you get a number of bonuses and a few powerful followers.

Just a theory on how the plot may unfold. Comments?

Sounds interesting, but it doesn't exactly factor in the Dawnguard.
Of course, they could simply be pawns for the Vampires, but I doubt that, or at least; I doubt that line would play a big role in the story.
Sounds kinda cliches taking everything in.

Actually, the OP made many fine points. All of this is very plausible and properly put together by various interviews.

I really hope the Main Quest is awesome with lots of twists and interesting characters. C'mon Bethesda you can do it this time! And your idea sounds nice but I'm pretty sure I heard this story before...

Most likely it will go this way, however knowing Beth, you will replace Harkon sooner or later, no matter what choices you made.

Honestly, that would be more than a little cliched, like a lot cliched. And as Seredoc said, you've completely left the Dawnguard out of your theory about what happens in Dawnguard, so I'd wager it cant be entirely accurate.

I'll admit though, as trite as it would be, at least some of that will likely happen.

This is only taking the Vampire side of things. The Dawnguard would be more focused on destroying the Vampire stronghold.

It seems legit, but where does the Dawnguard work into your theory?

Yeah, taking into all the other factions, I'd be praying for a good ending if I were Harkon and the dragonborn wanted to join me. :lmao:

Meh. The two sides are obviously in conflict with each other, and their paths will intermingle. I don't believe the factions storylines will be separate from each other.

Aye, but the way Harky was talking about the Dawnguard:
" We will find them, blablablah "
Makes me think there'll have a bit or two.
Or at least, they'll be conjoined more closely than the simplistic tone of the theory.

First off... Spell check please. I like your guess because it support my plans to be a good vampire that fights the idiots who are trying to block the sun.

 I didn't see anything misspelled. You could read what was said and understand it so even if something was misspelled it wouldn't matter.

The Dawnguard don't want the sun to be blocked out(obviously) but also don't like vampires at all so, if they had it their way, they'd go in there and cause some [censored].

Oh I wager you're right, I'm just being facetious.
I figure there's got to be a bit of one side foiling the other, & vice versa in bothe cases. And probably a turncoat. Somewhere along the line.
In the vampires case, likely this daughter. In the Dawnguard's I've not the foggiest since we don't actually know anything at all about them, but I reckon there'll be a traitor in there somewhere, or someone the vamps have put the whammy on. There always is.

What's a plot about vampires without a little cloak and dagger?

To be honest, I doubt that is how it would go. I think it is as simple as the fact that the vampires want to use the power of an Elder Scroll to block out the sun, which has always been one of their few weaknesses. The Dawnguard (vampire hunters) naturally want to stop them. You enter initially as a third party and choose a side to quest on similar to the civil-war quests.

Not a plot about vampires. So let them bring the cloaks, we've got the daggers.

What I mean is, the Vampires are obviously the bad guys in this scenario, despite the head vampire guy whos name I can't remember's probably best interest in safeguarding his followers and Children (the path to hell is paved with good intentions). Villains are the movers of the story, the one's who make things happen. Without them, the Dawnguard are sitting on their thumbs. Therefore, it's a Vampire Plot.

To all of the above; Yes, I was only talking about the vampire plot. Honestly, I couldn't give a damn about the dawnguard.

I believe that with what little we know about the questline that we should not assume too much as we still know very little about the dawnguard.

But the dawnguard will have to play into the plot line no matter what side you choose

A plausible theory, parts of it sound likely to become true, but where do the Dawnguard fit in to all of this? I doubt it is as simple as killing every and all vampires. It is clear that joining and finishing the main vampires' storyline will earn you the vampire lord transformation (which in an interview, is stated that you learn it through The Companions (somehow)). And you get crossbows for joining the Dawnguard. Also I think if you join the Dawnguard you will eventually rescue the daughter, after killing her father, whom can be a potential follower/wife, and she grants you access to recruitable Frost Giants (or whatever they're officially called).
