You can't really base what the Volkihar Clan should be represented as on a single book. The books shouldn't be viewed as entirely correct since they were written from the point of view of a single character with different biases and beliefs. But, based on what the writer stated about the Volkihar, they stayed relatively true to his word. While their breath couldn't freeze mens veins (this is clearly an exaggeration), they were/are paranoid and cruel (as clearly seen as soon as you enter the castle), and keep to themselves until they need to feed (or, in this case, gather more thralls to feed later). The only real ability they don't seem to possess is the ability to reach through ice without breaking it (although I don't see a circumstance in-game where this would have been displayed). While they don't live beneath the frozen lakes of Skyrim, their castle is well hidden from the outside world, so its safe to assume that them living underneath the ice was simply legend because nobody knew where they lived exactly.

Yup this is my opinion as well but this is elder scrolls so loads of people have different views on lore.

So the opposite of everything we have established as LORE right? They wouldnt have put the book in the game IF it were a lie...common sense people

Eh, I guess everyone prefers to feed on sleeping people. The vanilla "Volkihar" feeds on sleeping people. Then they come out with vampire's seduction and feed on awake people.

Order Vampyrum can do the same with their vampire seduction too, I guess.

"That night, I decided to follow Relfina. I wanted to see where she went on her walks. When she stopped in the garden, and Seridur stepped out of the shadows, my heart sank. Then, suddenly, he was upon her! She seemed entranced as he wrapped his arms around her and sank his teeth into her neck.-Roland Jenseric.

I do think volkihar need a book similar to the Manifesto Cyrodiil Vampyrum or a book with a volkihar vampire on an adventure feeding/killing people. Order has loads of books and awesome background information. :(

Are you kidding me? The Volkihar have a damn DLC made FOR them, and a joinable faction and purebloods! Purebloods!

We don't even have that much information on the Order save for two books and a few NPC's....that's it. All we know is that they took over Cyrodiil's clans and dominated the other vampire tribes into extinction or expulsion, and they worship Molag Bal. Thats about it. And they're filthy rich.

True you got me there I really wanted the phase through ice skill knowing bethesda trying to implement that skill would cause the game to crash or your PC to fall through the world.

Maybe in the next elder scrolls they will add multiple clans hopefully one of them would be the order so we can get some more inside information on them and a proper quest line like the volkihar. Man I now feel like playing vampire the masquerade bloodlines *opens steam sets game to download*

No, they "only come out to hunt for prey" meaning they kill their victims, they dont feed on those who sleep. Even if they didnt care about politics they would still live in society just to feed easier. Why would they go "Hey im hungry lets not just walk into town and quietly feed since they cant tell we are vamps, instead lets isolate ourselves from any food source and live fancily in our ice lakes/castles". Poppycock and you KNOW it. They are savage and the Lore doesnt support ANY of DG's stuff around them

They have Vampires around Skyrim who kidnap beggars, orphans and anyone else that wouldnt be missed and imprison them in Volkihar Castle.

The immortal blood never calls the volkihar monsters it just describes them as being paranoid and cruel and would rather keep to themselves and I would say harkon's court pretty much fit the description.

Most Vampires are described as monsters because of their bloodlust. Several sources state that Vampires do not need to feed on human blood to survive and they certainly do not need to kill people. They do so because they give in to their animal instincts. This is the very reason Vampires are hated and feared, not because they look scary. If that was the case then they would have eventually integrated into society just like the Orcs did. Few Vampire Clans have risen above this as stated in at least one book and one actual Vampire NPC from Oblivion and gameplay would suggest this as well considering the perpetual aggressiveness of Vampires.

You can't really base what the Volkihar Clan should be represented as on a single book. The books shouldn't be viewed as entirely correct since they were written from the point of view of a single character with different biases and beliefs. But, based on what the writer stated about the Volkihar, they stayed relatively true to his word. Not only are some of the contents of said book proven to be true, there is more to Vampires overall than that one book. There are several books and gameplay involving the Vampires themselves. Several sources and gameplay confirm that the Vampires of Cyrodiil are unique in their abilities to blend into humanoid society and resist the sun. Speculate all you will on what the Volkihar's unique abilities are but there are certain things about the Vampire race as a whole that have been established for a long time and these Vampires in DG contradict that. Harkon and the Vampires even contradict themselves. Their whole mission is to block out the sun but the sun's actual affect on the Vampires in gameplay is actually much more accommodating than lore and previous gameplay suggest.

Complaining how things are "unoriginal" is quite redundant because frankly, nothing is original. There are many references in Morrowind to ancient Japanese mythology and history for example...

And frankly, I have no idea what are these "contradictions to lore" are, other than the Volkihar not being monstrous vamprires who punch trough ice. Frankly, taking the written lore this seriously is never a good thing because lore in TES is a really unstable thing, you can never tell which one is true, made up or just overexaggeration.
Maybe it's the fact that Vampires are not really social (except even in Skyrim most Vampires live in caves and far away from civilization so wahtever...), which is changed for a good reason as playing a permanent outcast from two thirds of the rest of the game is just not fun.
Actually, you could still hang around in cities and around people as a Vampire in Daggerfall (though only at night and not in holy ground), and now that I think of it vampirism worked completely differently there...
How come nobody is complaining about that?

I don't mind that games take idea from books, movies or other entertainment, you can go overboard thou. If this is true then everyone should be complaining that just about every fantasy game, movie or book takes some ideas or alot from Lord of the RIngs books.

Plus I never said they don't go out to feed or go into a town to feed I said they don't CARE for mortal affairs/politics like the cyrodil vampires. I still think thats keeping to themselves if they only go out to feed.

Except:

Spoiler
They have you go out and turn villagers into vampires as part of a Radiant quest

Also

Spoiler
After installing Dawnguard, you find that the court wizard of Solitude is infact a Volikhar Vampire, yet she is described by the court as blending in and no one knows of her true identity. She is disguising herself for power amongst the elite.

That certainly seems like they care about more than just inner politics, they want to blend in with society just as much as any other Cyrodilic vampire. Its just another example of the lore being contradicted.

There is a fine line between originality and copy pasta from other Media. Your own example pretty much contradicts your reasoning.

Not only did Morrowind borrow from Japanese mythology, it burrowed from Islamic, Judaic, early Christianity, Roman history, and more. Only it didn't copy paste these ideals, it blended them by creating a unique and engaging story that was influenced by these events.

The chimer following a prophet to new lands. The holy trinity. The persecution of religious practices. The abandonment of an older religious practice for a newer, following a new prophet. Only these aren't directly copy pasted, they have a unique twist on these past events, and are blended with others to create a unique story.

Whereas, volikhar are nearly ripped straight from underworld, and abandon much of what creative and original aspects the vampires had.

There is a major difference there. One is more creative than another.
