Daylight Saving Time

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:47 pm

Spring the clocks forward an hour folks! I forgot about it until today and just wanted to remind those that may not have remembered. Even though our phones do it automatically for us. :P

And for those that don't use DST, keep living your lives! A bit of a downer since we lose an hour asleep but it is always nice to have longer days I guess.

I wish they'd get rid of this DST thing. It's not needed anymore, if it ever really was. State of AZ has been fine without it, the rest of us would be too.

I like it because once a year I get extra sleep.

I am fairly sure it is the last Sunday in March and last Sunday in October that the UK switches.

Gotta love Iceland, no Daylight Saving Time (it would be a wasted effort here anyway) so no need to change the clock :P

I don't own any time-telling devices that aren't connected to the internet (who does?) so it doesn't really matter.

Er...many of us still do. Wall clocks, watches, alarm clocks. Not everyone uses their phone as their alarm clock, and sometimes it's easier to just glance up at a wall clock/watch than pull out/find a phone/computing device. ;)

I really didnt notice the switch this morning...all my wall clocks get the time by pulling it from the wall outlet. All my other devices are connected to the Internet somehow. Though I dont wear watches so thats one thing I dont have to change.

I hate DST because it's stupid and is no longer needed. We have electricity and heat.

If I remember correctly, here anyway, we turn the clock one hour ahead when spring comes, then turn it one hour back when the fall comes. Which more or less cancel out any time change to begin with.

It needs to go away, it was made centuries ago to help farmers harvest their crops. We have many ways to help harvest crops at night now.

Thank you for supporting my argument. I say we band together to abolish the practice of DST.

I wonder if I as an individual can declare that I no longer support the idea of it and stop practicing it?

Only if you want to be out of synch with everyone else. If DST is to stop it's going to need to be abolished all at once or at least in large numbers.

I'm ok with that. I do agree that the only way to truly get rid of it is for everyone to sign-on to get rid of it. It really should be done away with, there honestly is no reason for it anymore.
