Dead is Dead as Fred.

Post » Tue Jan 11, 2011 5:51 pm

Simple and quick: Will you attempt a dead is dead playtrough? For those that don't know, DID means any time you die, for whatever reason, you're dead. Done. Finito. Start new character, no load save. Over. Kaput. Compledado. Fin.

Edit. sorry, screwed up the poll. Everyboby gets a mulligan. Tee it up again.

Nope. My time is too valuable to waste dozens of hours on a character only to throw it all away when something goes wrong or I make a mistake.

I respect others choices to do it to add more challenge for themselves, but it isn't my cup of tea.

You didn't actually make a poll option for "no"

The closest is a snarky option about posting in a thread even though we don't care...

edit: there you go.

I didn't do it in fallout 3, but this time around i'm thinking that i should. I'm not doing it just for the challenge, i wanna try out every type of character, and i also wanna join all the different factions. Recently i haven't had much time to play video games, so i'll try out dead is dead as fred in hardcoe mode and very hard.. It's gonna really fun. :disguise:

I tried it for Oblivion and stopped, I tried it for Fallout 3, and once I died stupidly, I just can't be bothered to start all over again, espically doing the Moria quest over and over again, so no, I do not play this way no more.

Most probably but not until I've gone through the roles I've written already.

Probably not, it doesn't really add anything to the experience for me.
The last poll options were epic!

If "Dead Is Dead as Fred", then wouldn't you technically never get past the opening cinematic? What with the whole "Shot in the Head and dumped in a shallow grave" thing?

I will not raise up to the bait. BTW, you should post facetious remarks in fuscia lest someone misunderstand your sense of humor and think you really are like that.

Yeah, I tried it in FO3. It added some excitement to the game which I was almost burned out on so I enjoyed it. I do give myself exceptions though; such as unrealistic scenarios being the cause of death (getting stuck in rocks), or dying within the first 15 minutes of playing for that session (I give myself a while to get my bearings and remember what I was doing last).

My current Oblivion character is DID, and I'm sure I'll do it for a NV character sometime down the road.

I've never done a DID character before, it could be fun to try. I just have the worst feeling I'm going to die by a landmine or forgetting to drink in hardcoe mode then an awesome gunfight where I go out in a blaze of glory. I'll probably sit there in disbelief of what just happened due to my own fallacy and then probably try again. This won't happen until I've had a good number of playthroughs though.

Meh, I usually don't do DID until I've beaten the game every possible way and I'm bored, then I'll do dead is dead just to keep things fresh.

Also, I challenge the integrity of anyone who actually claims to do this and followed through with it.

You're telling me you get 5 hours into a character, get overwhelmed by explosives or too many enemies or something, happen to die, and then go "oh well" and delete that game?

Eat [censored], noone would actually do that.

You raise a good point. May I inquire as to what happened to this unfortunate Fred fellow?

I don't mind dead is dead in games that don't CTD a lot. This is a Gamebryo game.

You would be surprised.

Diablo 2 had a hardcoe mode that deleted your saves when you died. Yet many people completed that too.

First off, that's rediculous. Kudos to anyone with the balls to take that on.

Secondly, the difference is that you have no option to reload. I am challenging that people would claim to play a Fallout or similar game in DID, and actually resisted the temptation to just say "screw it" and reloaded it anyways.
