Just read this, that co-op is going to [censored] svck balls.
How can you actually make a horror/survival/strategy game effective by throwing in a second person, it's not possible. Anytime a second player joins they either ruin the atmosphere or they ruin the atmosphere...Then there is the 2nd player using a mic, oh dear God what a way to kill immersion.
It'll be like Res5, creepy dark alley way, BANG! A big black monster appears and will take some thinking to kill....Player-2 launches an RPG with unlimited ammo at it and kills it in 1....... :brokencomputer:

hor·ror/?h?r?r/
Noun:
  • An intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust.
  • A thing causing such a feeling.

Horror games have done co-op before, and it's worked. My favorite game at the moment, Killing Floor, has co-op and it's pretty intense. As long as the game manages to pull off those "ohcrapohcrapohcrap" moments, then it's done pretty well in my opinion. It doesn't have to be jump scares and cheap tricks, just being backed into a corner with low ammunition is enough.

apparently the coop character is the guy we saw in the graphic novel trailer on deadspace.com.

Seeing as how they game is taking place on an ice planet, I think it's safe to say that some other plot elements are likely to be true like Shadow Isaac.

I disagree. In that situation you could only feel tense, not scared.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent didn't rely on any cheap scares and didn't involve any combat at all, but it was absolutely horrifying from start to finish. It's very subtle, but very scary. I couldn't play it at all without having my stomach fill with butterflies. That's horror.

Amnesia had tension, thus inducing fear.
