Desert Eagle?

Post » Mon Dec 20, 2010 2:15 pm

The Desert Eagle has been in every Fallout game up until Fallout 3, I was pretty bummed that they didn't add the gun in DLC for Fo3. I'm hoping they add the pistol in a DLC pack asap and I'm sure alot of people would agree with me.

But thinking, if they were to put it in the game, what caliber should it be? The actual gun has been available in quite a few calibers .357 mag, .41 mag, .44 mag, .440 Cor-bon and .50 AE, but implementing the gun into the game I believe they would either go with the .44 Magnum or .50 Caliber (12.7MM)

.357 Magnum seems unlikely cos there are already 4 weapons that use this round, 5 if you count the police pistol from Dead Money

.44 Magnum is a more likely choice because in all the Fo games it's been in was chambered for .44 Magnum, and the game only has 1 pistol (plus it's unique variant) and 1 rifle that uses the .44 Magnum.

.50 (or 12.7MM) would be a plausible choice for the handgun, there is only one .50 caliber handgun in game and this would allow the devs to fictionalize the weapon easier by just calling the handgun the "12.7MM Magnum" or something similar to that.

If taking the .50 (12.7MM route) The Desert Eagle could be used to fill the gap between the Mysterious Magnum and the Ranger Sequoia

**Added**

Some suggested names and base stats without perks.

Desert Eagle .44 Magnum

Possible fictional names: "Mountain Magnum", "Coyote Auto-Magnum", "Hunting Magnum"

Damage: 39
Spread: .45
Weight: 4.5 lbs
Mag size: 8
HP: 150
Ammo: .44 Magnum
Requirements: Str 5, guns 75

The .44 Desert Eagle would initially have more Dam and Accuracy over the .44 Revolver, but with perks and mods the .44 Mag revolver would surpass the DE in terms of Dam and Health, leaving the DE with accuracy and mag count.

Unique Version

Desert Eagle .50

Possible Fictional Names: "Mountain Magnum .50", "Coyote Super-Magnum", ".50 Hunting Magnum"

Damage: 50
Spread: .35
Weight: 4.5
Mag size: 7
HP: 125
Ammo: 12.7 MM
Requirements: Str 6, Guns 75

The unique Desert Eagle would bridge the gap between .44 Magnum and .45-70 Government revolvers. For balancing concerns the 12.7 MM pistol should be upgraded and be the higher DPS weapon.

The unique DE could also have a flashlight attached to the bottom of the frame with a dirty-rusty chrome finish and named "Ghoul Slayer" as a reference to L4D2

Standard should be either black or chrome (or even nickle) with the unique variant being gold or some custom gold design. :)

".44 Magnum Pistol" and a unique golden variant "High Roller" will be included in the Project Nevada mod's equipment module. Of course i have one already, courtesy of the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/images/39651-2-1299896628.jpg. That's a damn pretty, very impractical one hand overkill gun

So what about the 12.7mm pistol? It may not look like a Desert eagle but it's got the power.

To be honest (And this is something that I never thought I'd say when I first found one in any game), I'm pretty burned out on Desert Eagles. Too many games using them, too many people either using them in game or modding them in "because they're cool", all leading up to them being essentially the "default" hand-cannon to me, and being pretty plain because of that. It's not like I'll refuse to play if they add one, but it's not a big deal to me.

Along with a Desert Eagle. I want a version of the 10mm without the lower portion below the barrel. What is the purpose for that anyway?

Did they confirm .45ACP? I thought they'd use 10mm for the 1911.

Impracticality is taking a silenced .22 into a Deathclaw lair, and with the Desert Eagle being primarily a powerful hunting pistol the Wasteland makes the DE quite practical against it's monsters ;)

And if I had a computer that could run Fallout New Vegas I probably wouldn't be worrying about asking for a Desert Eagle as DLC ;)

To be honest (And this is something that I never thought I'd say when I first found one in any game), I'm pretty burned out on Desert Eagles. The default hand-cannon in Fallout: NV would have to go to the Ranger Sequoia hands down, it would be unrealistic and even unreasonable to make the DE as powerful as the Sequoia. The sequoia has 62 damage rating, and .1 deviation it's the obvious handgun favorite. It's drawback is that it can't be concealed.

What's needed is a semi-auto magnum as an alternate to the revolvers, and the Desert Eagle is by all means the most recognized semi-auto magnum.

At the very least it should be a .44 Magnum on par with the revolvers, maybe a couple points more powerful with a slight increase of weapon degradation. But then I wouldn't feel right shooting Semi Wadcutter rounds from a Desert Eagle lol.

I agree with all ya'll. If we'll see it, it should be in .44 mag:

A) We could use more .44 mag guns
2) That's what it was in other FO games
Other) It's one of only a few semi-autos to fire .44.

The thing is, we're getting pretty chock full of autos now with the M1911. I could see a progression like: .22, 9mm, .45ACP, 10mm, .44 mag, 12.7. That's how it goes in real life, but that's a lot to squeeze into a range from 9 (well really 16) to 40.

Disclaimer: .45ACP has NOT been confirmed in game.

Revolvers 8

.357 Mag revolver, Lucky, *Police Pistol
.44 Mag revolver, Mysterious Magnum
Hunting Revolver, Ranger Sequoia
That Gun

Semi Auto's 7

9MM, Maria
10MM, *Weathered 10MM
12.7MM, Silenced .22
**1911

We can use another semi auto!

Me personally I'd like to see it in .50 (12.7MM) just to add another gun to the .50 Caliber ranks, the 12.7 MM only has two guns that use it while the .44 Mag has three. It would create an opportunity to add more craft-able ammo like a 12.7MM FMJ and 12.7MM JHP.

But still, I'd welcome a .44 Magnum Desert Eagle with open arms and a happy trigger finger!

There should be mods for it as well, like extended mags, a scope and maybe a modified rotating bolt assembly for either increased RoF or decreased degradation.

I hate to be the the negative one but I would say NO.

The Desert Eagle is in EVERY shooting game already, does it really need to slither it's way into this game too? Isn't the 500 games it's already in enough? Plus the 12.7mm pistol pretty much functions as a Desert Eagle so it'd be pretty redundant to have it in game even from a balancing standpoint. I understand it was in previous Fallouts but I don't see it having a place in New Vegas. But that's just me, if there's enough demand for it who am I to crap on the idea, if you guys want it and they put it in then awesome. Just let me have my 1911 and That Gun please :hubbahubba:

The 12.7 MM pistol is not in anyway an acceptable replacement, or even comparable to a Desert Eagle. It's like saying that it's a bad idea to add the 1911 because of the 9MM pistol.
