Disney Acquires LucasFilms And Announces Star Wars Episode V

Post » Wed Oct 31, 2012 2:37 am

...They just can't let go of the money that comes with the Star Wars, can they? I really doubt these will be watchable, but we'll see.
It was still making tons of money. Now with Disney behind it? Wow!

In a galax......No.
Unless it is some amazing SW experience with an Imperial victory and brilliant plot, I'm not finishing that sentence.

Eh, whatever. Disney acquired both Pixar and Marvel and those two are responsible for some of the best content sporting the Disney name in recent years. Let 'em have Star Wars, I wanna see where this goes.

Well there is an upside to this...

Now we get obscenities injected into the script and the artwork.

Well, if they make a good blu-ray release of the original Star Wars trilogy, this is a good move.

I don't understand what this one will be about or when it could be set. I thought there was a ton of novels and stuff set after and before? Guess they'll stomp over that for a good story.

Disney also made pirates of the Carribean so it doesn't neccesarilly mean kids music. That said I suspect this is a joke, George wouldn't let Star Wars go unless it was forced from his pudgy hands.

Make it the KotoR story Disney or gtfo, or maybe one of the book series set after the original trilogy (would make sense if it's actually supposed to be Episode VII)

I would not mind seeing some stuff in the expanded universe.

This. The Star War's universe is full of compelling stories to tell. Heck, the X-Wing stories could make several movies all by themselves. The stories that come out right after the Battle of Endor are interesting and all, but they are too full of political intrigue to go to the big screen. People don't go to Star War's movies to see a bunch of politicians back stabbing each other. The go to see heads get chopped off with Light Sabers, which is really a different plot device if you think about it.

This is beyond my comprehension. If I even try to think about this for one second I will go insane.

Tell you what George. Why don't I just post you my Star Wars DVDs so you can dump on them. Then you can have all my childhood memorabilia and smash it to pieces, burn it, then dump on it. Once that's over you can pile it all up and do a merry dance of glee upon the remnants of all that was good in my life.

The last Star Wars film came out years ago, I don't think anyone will really care if they make the films to target a different audience. But then again, this is Disney we're talking about.

What were those books where Luke goes to study with Jorus C'Baoth (think that's his name) and Thrawn is in charge of the Imperials.?

I completely agree though I would really like to see something a bit different from what's been done with the movies, the Darth Bane trilogy is my first thought.

That was the The Heir to the Empire trilogy; Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command. I could be wrong about this, but I'm fairly sure that Heir to the Empire was the first book in the EU.

From the Story Arch of the Expanded Universe, the two main threads are New Republic and the New Jedi Order. These stories are all but separate, each existing as a standalone with Luke's adventures and Leia's adventures being followed separately. There some overlap between them two of them, but to choose which of them, or which parts would be part of Episodes 7, 8 and 9 would be a challenge. How do you choose the stories of the New Republic and the New Jedi Order? Both would be important, but one can be ignored at the expense of the other. To try to combine those would make for an unwieldy or unsatisfying movie.

Those are the ones, I wouldn't mind seeing them as films. Except for the fact that there would have to be different actors, and knowing Disney we'd get Zac Efron as Luke Skywalker.

They did say they plan on releasing them every other year, so they could alternate, releasing a new republic film in 2015 and then a new jedi order film in 2016 and only having a semi-overlapping cast so that it isn't too much of a workload for any one actor.

The only really good books in the EU that I know, though some others have been enjoyable as well. Don't want to see a movie version of those though. Han Solo without Harrison Ford, that's a recipe for failure on levels that George Lucas could be jealous of.

I still love Star Wars though, and I don't hate Disney as much as George Lucas, so there is some chance that this might turn out positive.
