Does anyone here have bad handwriting?

You're good. I also use that to thwart people wanting to sleep in class but copy lecture notes, since I use a lot of acronyms which may or may not be easy to figure out (b/t, b/c, b/f, b/h might be easier to figure out than arc'r, arc'l, arc't, li'sts, ph'y repre't repre'n for those people, I guess).

YES! Thank you! I've had people get angry with me because I've had to ask them what they meant when it looks like they're writing with their feet.

I do mainly because I reference each letter to the previous one, and if I make a letter land slightly higher or lower by just a bit, before I know it, the line is curving because of that teeny mistake.

Probably the best description of my writing was "like a demented spider" circa 1981.

It's likely a lot worse now.

My handwriting is fairly average. I make an effort to write neatly when I know somebody else will be reading it as I'm not a prat and I know how bloody annoying it is trying to read something somebody's spewed all over a page because they're too lazy to waste an extra few second making a bit of effort. If you think it's acceptable to present a mess on a page to somebody as your handwriting, I'm probably going to assume you're equally incompetent at everything else you do.

My writing is bad but not terrible. If I slow my writing to be more legible it can almost qualify as neither good nor bad.

I've had a few compliments on it at various points but this had to be a result of everyone else having absolutely horrible hand writing.

Apparently a good amount of people have trouble writing in straight lines on blank paper, which I've been wondered at for being able to do naturally. I have no idea why this is even a thing.

I heard that people who have bad handwriting most likely can think faster than the average joe, so this results in them writing faster, which results in sloppier handwriting.

But this was just a random little fact I was told by a friend so it could be complete bogus.

I generally have legible handwriting, I can make it nice and purdy if I want, but I don't really think I need to.

I have pretty good handwriting unless I'm writing in cursive, then it looks like a mix between drunk bathroom wall writings and scribbling.

My handwriting it terrible, always has been. Following my trial-HSC (basically a practice run of the final High School exams for NSW), I was informed by several of my teachers that if I didn't improve it I'd be losing marks in the final exams due to illegibility. So I had to work to improve my handwriting while maintaining my speed, which did pay off in the end.

Of course now 4 years later my handwriting is once again a turd, but what are you gunna do?

Mine is bad. I often have to take notes in meetings or on conference calls, I need to type them immediately, if I don't I have trouble deciphering my own writing hours later. In my job I am constantly having to leave notes for other employees, I type them all up. I had some employees who initally felt threatened by this, feeling that they were in some sort of trouble (usually in my job if you get a typed note it is something negative we are asking you to sign that goes into your personal file) ... untill I showed them my handwriting.

My handwriting is terrible, I remember one of my teachers saying that it looks like a spider stepped in ink then walked over the page. :D

I admit it, I have pretty bad handwriting. Though not as bad as one of my friends, his is the equivalent to a doctor's handwriting.

I cannot write that well at all. Even when I take the time to try and make it look neat, it still looks quite odd.

But I like sloppy handwriting. Means I think faster, and I'm therefore more intelligent. :D

Mine wasn't always bad, but the older I get, the worse it looks.

However, if I have the time, it can still appear legible, but not nearly as neat as it was when I was younger,,,although my handwriting has always been a bit small, it's always been pretty clear.

I've always written neat, and when I write in pen I'm careful not to make it look sloppy.. since I like to be neat about things in general, it just carries to everything I do. :)

When writing a paper, my handwriting starts out nice and large, becoming smaller and untidier as time flies by and I desperately try to cram in more words there.

When I was younger I used to write sloppy on purpose during tests on parts I was clueless about, just so the teachers might go, "hmm, he answers the question, so he might have an idea of what's going on, but I can't tell for certain."

I don't really see where you guys have gotten the idea that faster writing equals higher intelligence. To me it only looks rushed, sloppy and trainwrecky, as if you're worried your temporary brilliance will disappear any second.

Well, inspiration could be lost fairly quickly, IMO. A sign of intelligent is swift thinking, and if you're coning up with ideas faster than the average person, all the better. :D

But there's no point in being intelligent and creative if you can't remember your brilliant ideas, and desperately have to note it down whenever you have a sudden burst of inspiration! I'm just teasing. Perhaps I hold a grudge against sloppy writers because I tend to write like a doctor too, but I don't feel anything like a genius myself.

I don't believe that bunk about 'faster handwriting=better thinking' until I see a legit test that proves this claim.

That said, my hand writing is pretty deplorable. I dunno if handwriting is still graded, but when I was in elementary school I'd get an 'N' for my handwriting based on that ESNU system, N being one away from the worst possible letter.

Oh, I'm one of those people that can have a great idea and retain it in their head without writing it down for months, possibly even years. :D

Though my best inspiration/ideas come as I write, and by then I'm so excited, I have to get this epic idea down as fast as possible. :P

I can relate. Whenever I write stories and short novels I usually spend lots of time writing plenty of sheets unrelated to the story itself, just so I can build a foundation before I begin that I can use as reference. Doesn't hurt to plan things and keep stuff orderly and structured.
