Does Vahlok carry a mask?

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 10:53 pm

I just defeated him and he didn't have one in his inventory. I'm assuming he doesn't, but I wanted to make sure that I haven't missed it anywhere before I started deleting saves.

I felt ripped off that Vahlok the Jailer offered nothing. This is the first defeater of the betrayer miraak. There should have been an awesome prize for beating him.

Really disappointed when I realized he didn't have a mask. The backstory about him and Miraak was really interesting though, so that kinds of makes up for it.

Consider your reward... the reward of defeating the guy who defeated Miraak before you defeated him.
So you essentially proved that
Spoiler
even if Herma-Mora hadn't stepped in, you could have whooped his [censored] anyway.

Not really, Miraak had thousands of years in Apocrypha to train and strengthen his voice, Vahlok has been dead in a tomb for that length of time. I would say if Miraak and Vahlok had fought again during the events of this DLC, Miraak would more than likely win.

I finished the quest last night and was also a bit disappointed there was no mask, or at least some unique item we could claim as a trophy.

Well nice job, ruining the only good reward you can get from this. :P
Doesn't really matter to me though. I kinda ignore special items because I can usually make something that's literally twice as good... since I have a ton of perks into enchanting and a full smithing tree.

I dont understand why Bethesda didint add him mask. Unbeliavable he was high dragon priest! Hope they dont do this kind of [censored] anymore in this game :-D Miraak is weak next to Vahlok, even Miraak was alive in Apocrypta.

Yet you still killed him, with or without herma he didn't have any dragons left to lifesteal off of so he was screwed (Also I was sad when the cool underbite dragon was killed, really liked him...)

Theory: He didn't wear a mask because he was a good Dragon Priest who did not turn to cruelty like the Skyrim prieats who wore masks and he wasn't seduced by Mora like the other Dragon Priests we find on Solstheim.

Supposed defeater. Miraak may have simply been taken by HM and Vahlok took the credit. Or he may have simply been given credit by the dragons who didn't dare admit they couldn't overcome him themselves.

I do not remember seeing anything indicating anyone but Miraak was seduced by Mora, but then I am hopeless at keeping tabs on Lore. There were dragon priests in the vanilla game that never had masks, but they were nothing special either.

The fact that at least one of them (who's name I forget) is able to summon the High Seekers to fight.

As far as we know only HM can grant that or those that got it from him. At least thats my understanding of it.

Vahlok felt like a tougher fight to me than the Lightning masked guy I defeated yesterday. May have just been the flamethrowers on the floor though.

All the other dragonpriests had black books and tentacle-esque masks. Azhidal specifically had a shrine to Mora

Yeah the only reward you get from his tomb is the battle fury shout (I have yet to really see its effects. Is it any good?).

Causes NPC's to fight for you.

I was JUST thinking that.
The book "Guardian and Traitor" (or something) chronicles him as a Fair and Just ruler of Solstheim. One would assume this is not propaganda.

I'm pretty sure that Storn provides a different and more amiable version of "The Guardian and Traitor". The Dragons overwhelmed Miraak, and HM swept him up before the final blow could be dealt. A Dragon Priest defeating him cheapens the experience, IMO.

This is why I want more lore on the Dragon cult and Bromjunaar. I actually felt bad for killing Vahlok.

Well, it stands to reason...I DID kinda disturb his eternal slumber...and he may have detected the Dragonborn in me with his freaky Dragoncult Powers and mistook me for Miraak returned. Easy mistake to make, don't hold it against him, myself.
