I don't like steam

They should make a DLC where you can open a chain of steamed food restaurants in Dwemer ruins.

I can see it now. The commercials would feature a group of fully armed Nords standing around the place singing "lovely steam, wonderful steam!"

But for me personally I will not accept the introduction of Dwemer-steamed food products until they give me a way to turn all those potatoes into lovely, lovely french fries. CMON BETHESDA who do I gotta Thu'um to get a fried tater up in this joint?

That sounds like they use SCIENCE! more than magic.

You got the point. The dwarven ruins make me feel that they use SCIENCE but they insist it's MAGIC and lore friendly.

And you could get all of the Dwemer Spiders to chop up the potatoes, while wearing little chef hats.

IIRC, the Dwemer didn't really even believe in magic.

Can I have a Centurion standing around yelling "you're pathetic" at them in Gordon Ramsay's voice? Because that would be awesome.

Yeah, sounds fantasy indeed. However, I don't like to fight robots or something like that no matter what their power are.
They are effectively golems. automatons. YOu must not like Guild Wars 2, they take the automatons and magic to levels so far it makes the game look like a sci-fi world rather then a fantasy.

A lot of times, magic is presented as a science. People study it, research it, and experiment it to find new magic spells.

It is lore friendly. The Dwemer were the "scientists" of Tamriel, or what passes for such a thing in the TES universe. As noted above, they were known for it as it was something that set them apart from everybody else.

It's the science of magic. Not to be confused with the magic of science, which involves government funded programming and Carl Sagan saying "billiyuns and billiyuns" a lot.

The dwemer and their wacky inventions have been a part of the TES game world and lore for many years. Heck, Daggerfall's got a giant robot/golem in it as a major plot point.

As does Morrowind, though not as major as in Daggerfall.

Yep.

Even in the real world, what was once considered magic, is now known to be science. Who's to say that's not what's happening on Nirn too.

I don't like steam. To be more precisely, I don't like dwarven ruins in Skyrim. Those ruins are filled with steam and high technology things such as robots which really ruin the immersion of a fantasy word based on sword and magic.

You make it sound like the Dwemer are a new thing Bethesda cooked up for Skyrim. Nothing could be further from the truth. They first appeared in Morrowind (someone versed in the lore can tell you if they were in the books prior to that even). As far as I'm concerned this is part of TES.

They were in even before Morrowind. Stros M'kai was in Redguard, and there are supposedly huge Dwemer ruins there, too (I've never played the game, so I don't know if they were actually in the game or not, but it's in the lore). They were in Daggerfall, as well, as previously stated.

I didn't know dwarven ruins play such a important role in success of TES series, and I didn't know there are so many people enjoy running into Si Fi things in a world based on sword and magic either.
My bad, I apologize.

It basically is. But that doesn't make it science fiction.

Stop being so dense. Its been said several times. The automatons are magical in nature, created by a race that mysteriously disappeared. They are more magical and fantasy then some other things in the game.

Ultima 1 had space travel being a big part of the game. That was supposed to be way more traditional fantasy than Skyrim. The first three Ultima games were from the 80's, though... At least TES is able to mesh the other influences with a bit less insanity. Not saying finding a spaceship and becoming a space ace in Ultima isn't awesome, though. It is awesome.

Well, like any player you have the right not to like something that's included in the game. I think it's the insistence that what you don't like isn't lore friendly that is getting you the bulk of what you see as negative feedback. If you don't like something, some people will agree and some won't and as long as everyone's polite about it, no biggie. But if you say it's not lore friendly when several games' worth of established lore says otherwise, then somebody's gonna point that out. Whether or not anybody "enjoys running into" what you think shouldn't be there is beside the point, the lore is what it is* and everybody's going to run into it whether it meets with their expectations or not.

*Except when it's not.

They didn't believe in magic per se, rather, they believed it to be a form of science. But it was still magic. At least that's what I remember. Maybe they did believe in magic.

It's pretty much what happen with Science vs. Religion. Same thing here, Dwemer believe everything can be explained or achieved with Science rather then magic.

I like the fact Dwemer ruins use steam powered devices, it helps the game break away from boring standards set in medieval age fantasy.

[rant]And concerning Steam...I don't like having it as the only way to buy a game or dlc...I like to actually have a physical copy of the game I bought and not have it depend on a third party program to launch. [/rant]
