I don't like the map.

I like the map, reminds me of Total War style maps, then again Im new to this series directly into Skyrim so I cant compare, 2D option would be good for all tastes I would agree on that.

Maybe the idea was you use the physical map that comes with the game, or buy the guide's map ... hehe.

I get that with Skyrim being populated my mountainous regions, it makes sense to have a more three-dimensional aspect to the map. But what is in the game is just clunky and imprecise. For one thing, if you're going to allow the user to rotate the map, then include the requisite "North" arrow.

BUT IT'S AESTHETICALLY PLEASINGS!!!! says beth designer

In game map is better for traversing mountains. besides that you got a map inside your game case when you bought the game. 2D shows all the roads and major passes. If you downloaded it on pc then mods. I dont really see the problem here.

The map is alright, but I must admit this is probably the only feature that was superior in Oblivion (especially if you modded it a little to make it a bit more eye-pleasing :) ) Skyrim's map is pretty dull and sometimes confusing. I manage, but I'd still wish it was more like that of Oblivion.

A 2D map isn't going to make it any easier to navigate the mountainous areas. You just have to learn where the traverse-able slopes are.

Actually, it is.
People do that irl and it does a heck of a job.
And why the hell do I have to learn where I can pass and where I can't?
Isn't that job of the map, to show me where I can go and where I can't?

Also, 3D map is totally stupid for TES since it makes no sense at all.
What, we have a laptop in out pocket connected to satellite in the Nirn's orbit?

O but look at me complaining about a laptop and a satellite when we already have a GPS compass.
I mean, really?
People complain about idea of guns in TES (even about those which logically should be in it by now), but it's fine to have all other high-tech crap?
Nice logic right there!

I had no trouble getting around, so it serves its purpose.

Oblivion map became pretty damn sweet after it got modded.
I think that they should've stuck with something like that.

But oh well, let's see if this map can be fixed because I know that there is no chance that Bethesda will release a 2D version of the map.

Edit:
And why the [censored] are there blood drops on my screen when I fight?
Who the hell thought that that would be a good idea?
It's [censored] idiotic!

I had blood in my eyes and let me tell you that it does NOT look like that!
It just blurs your vision and forces you to close your eye, and that's that.

But I forget that this game was made for mainstream idiots who dig crap like that. >_>

I really hope that Bethesda wanted to increase the number of fans with Oblivion and Skyrim, so they can earn enough of money that eventually they can make an actually good game like Daggerfall and Morrowind.

i think the map should update more, ie: you find your way to the top of a mountain to reach whatever area, the map should remember which route you took and when selecting that area again give you the option to show path. so it then shows you on the map how you got there via a coloured line or something.

I like the map. It's easy to see elevation, and I rarely have problems plotting a course to a place.

You guys know that there's two kinds of map in skyrim right?
The 3D one that you guys are complaining and a 2D one (on computer press "L" while viewing the map) that solves all the 3D map issues about localization.

Lol, so you dont have to play the game right? It just throws at your face everything that you need to just pass through it;

If I could have my dream map I would want a 2-D one where I could put markers with captions any where I wanted. Find an area with lots of mushrooms growing? Fine. Mark it on your map so you can find it again. I would also like to leave a red dot at my current location when I chose to. That way if I found an obscure route to somewhere I could mark the way with a string of dots. I also want a corner minimap.
