Doom 3 BFG edition Xbox 360 version needs a patch!

The game is brilliant and as I stated earlier in another post, I am truly happy (as with 20 others that I am speaking for) that you guys re-released this game, so that now we can play multiplayer again, since original xbox live version shut down. But there are many things that need to be addressed in a patch that you will be releasing to fix the bug about installing the game anyways, so please consider these!:
  • You can’t map weapons on the d-pad anymore. When you are in a fast paced firefight online, you need to be able to quickly switch weapons, like in the original xbox version. I liked to press up on the d-pad and pull out my rockets, now I have to toggle through 5 weapons with the shoulder button to get to it. By the time I get to it, I’m dead…
  • You can't customize the controls. The main concern for this is that you can't crouch with the left toggle instead of the right. Think about it, you aim with the right toggle, and crouch currently. This throws off your aim when crouching, For example: Many of us like to crouch and aim and shoot quickly, now it is very difficult.
  • The matchmaking system svcks. Who knows if you can fix this, but here is my criticism. In the old original xbox version we had ‘optimatch’, you were able to choose specific rooms that listed: what map, what game type, who the host was, and how many people were in it. Now we just get RANDOMLY thrown in a game. You also were able to host your own game if you wanted, as well as kick unwanted annoying people. We need this back please!
  • Strafe jumping has slowed down. Like many competitive players across your ID software titles, strafe jumping is essential. This version seems to have eliminated almost any momentum attained from strafe jumping. We need this back.
  • We are not able to choose our character color as we could in the earlier version.
  • You are not able to choose what team you want to be on in team death-match. Who wants to play with someone you do not want to?
  • You are not able to adjust any other settings in ranked, such as total time of match, number of frags, etc.
  • The host advantage is ridiculous. You would think that the lag would be less than the original xbox version since this is an old game. You should have been able to compress the data in such a way so that lag would be less, instead it’s almost worse than before.
  • Every weapon that the host uses is significantly stronger than the other not-hosting players…
  • The double barrel shotgun is about ¼ the strength of what it was before. What the heck!
  • The rocket launcher has little to no splash damage anymore, as well as being over ½ weaker. I can send three rockets into a character who has only 100 health and it only brings them down to 30 health. What the heck!?
  • Why not give us the option for more players in each match? I know of many clans who are interested in running tournaments on the xbox 360 version, but it is only capable of doubles currently. It shows that there is room for 4 more players in the player list in matchmaking and the scoreboard in game. So what’s the deal?
  • Where is the co-op? It is pretty sad that the game is without this, this would bring many more people back to the game and buy it JUST for this reason alone. I understand that this is the “PC-port” but some idiot kid can make a mod for coop on the earlier pc version, why can’t you guys?
  • Where is surface and commrec, and the other maps? It can’t be that hard making the old dlc or resurrection of evil maps on the original xbox backwards compatible for the xbox 360 to play on. We don’t need updated graphics even, just the chance to re-live some epic deathmatches on those maps would be great!
  • The framerate stutters when firing the machine gun off-host...
  • The "ping" noise hit detection occurs about 50% of the time off-host. Now noone knows if they are doing any damage to the other player besides the host knowing.
  • The mega-sphere powerup noise is only heard by the host.
  • We are forced to start a match after a 15 second warmup when entering a game. We all miss being able to hit "back button" when ready to start the match.
  • The leaderboards need to be re-done. They show only points, which stand for nothing. We need to be able to see our kill/death, time played, win/loss, etc.
I fully understand tht you guys were trying to give us an exact pc replica, but you have to remember the limitations of controller vs. keyboard. Thus some of these changes are needed. We understand the costs behind having to make adjustments like these, but heck, I wouldn't mind paying whatever in to you guys to get this stuff fixed. Or start up a kick-starter campaign, we will support it.
Please consider these Bethesda/ID software, you have a huge doom 3 xbox community online and we want to be heard!

You can install the game and play doom and Doom 2.

On your dashboard, go to "my games," and Doom and Doom 2 show up in there. Launch the games from there and even if installed they will launch. I'm not sure how the devs and mods missed this, considering they made the game, but it works.

I second this! There should be some way to patch these things, Especially the host advantage!

Barrels don't act right. Barrels online Tend to bug out, the host can see where the barrel truly is, but others will see a barrel that is not there or is invisible. These can sometimes be the key to getting some frags I think. They worked online in pc and original xbox version, they should all run right in this version.

jumping around when not host can sometimes inflict 10-15 damage randomly. Now this is a big issue for me as I will be attempting to bunny hop and randomly lose 15 health. I would think somebody would of shot me but no. Or I would be escaping a battle and have 10 health and would be bunny hopping and die randomly.

Screen used to turn red when being shot. My screen no longer turns red when being shot, Hell I don't even know I am being shot til it is too late.

Doors open up very slowly. This isn't a really big deal as I can just shoot the doors open.

Chainsaw not in multiplayer. I know the chainsaw was never in multiplayer on pc, but on the original xbox it was. It was an awesome weapon to have and always fun to duel eachother with. I am glad the plasma gun, but is there anyway to add the chainsaw to a few multiplayer maps.

I am sure I will have more after the coming days of playing. Still love the game, glad it got brought back, though upset that some features like coop were out, Though single player is good like it always has been.

The multiplayer on Xbox with the BFG edition is SOOOOOO much better than the original Doom 3 multiplayer, so just be happy with what we got..... The original Doom 3 had dedicated servers and it still lagged SOOOOO bad.....The Xbox version virtually has NO lag and it's player hosting! Seriously, if you ever played the orignal Doom 3 Online you would understand.

You are completely incorrect sir. If you played AT ALL, you would notice the lag. But maybe it is only noticed by seasoned players who have put in over 40+ days worth of multiplayer on the original xbox version. The original xbox version did not have dedicated servers, it was player hosted servers. And yes, I am very happy with what we got. But here are some things to be considered if they would consider a patch. Some of them are easy to patch. Please reply next time with at least a little research on the topic.

I have played the original doom 3 online, just like the others above me, we spent our high school lifes and more on it. We were all in the top 10 on the leaderboards (not like that matters). You are wrong about dedicated servers it had none. Maybe it did at the release but I don't think it did. The lag on the xbox version was tolerable, the host never had too much of an advantage, the bullets would always come out when you shot. Why don't you try playing this bfg version online without hosting and rocket jump a few times and see what happens. or hell do anything we described at the top.

Another issue on both 360 and ps3 is when you shoot enemies in the single player, theres no longer blood spatter stains on the ground and walls that the enemy is near. Why this effect was removed is beyond me, but it makes the battles a lot less viseral.

I agree with SilentMenaceTLG 100%. I am very grateful to ID and Bethesda for bringing back my favorite video game of all time. I mean Doom 3 is why I decided to buy into Xbox live in the first place. And I vouch for Menace as well, I don't know who you are @hahalolppl, but you obviously have never played Doom 3 on the original Xbox. I just hope the Doom 3 original Xbox/BFG Edition community will be heard on this forum. I would love to play this game competitively again. Look me up on the old leaderboards for Doom 3 ID,Software/Bethesda. I spent over 18 days on Doom 3 Multiplayer as a Teenager. I will continue to play BFG, but I would appreciate it if this patch idea was looked into some more.

Agreed, needs better off host. The ping sound needs to be fixed, I don't think d-pad and new control schemes will ever be patched in, all mist of us are asking for is a smooth online experience. I also put a lot of time into the original Xbox version, and whilst I don't remember dedicated servers, It's to bad this issue has surfaced, otherwise amazing job and thanks for all the hard work.

Sorry, I didn't specify but when I was talking about the original Doom 3 having dedicated servers I was talking about the PC version.....I was not refering to the original Xbox version in any way.

Thanks hahalolppl for clarifying...we knew you obviously weren't talking about the D3 on xbox. Also I wanted to thank Bethesda and id for re-releasing this game to provoke the hype for Doom 4.

Before I put my two cents in, I think Bethesda needs to watch this cell phone video that I recorded of Menace and Monk on the last game of the Doom 3 Tourney 1v1 that we all set up for cash prize back in 2006, Menace being the winner. There was a ladder of 10-12 people, this being after the fact that id stopped supporting the game and Microsoft was about to shut down the game.

At 3:56 you can get a glimpse of the amount of lag none of us were experiencing, under 200ms ping where now I am pinging 5-600 in Menace's room who is in Wisconsin (I used to ping at max 130-150ms.

I cant post a link here because I don't have permission but if you Youtube: "Final Doom 3 Tourney 1v1 Delta!." It is a nostalgic video of how this game used to be and how much we love it. (I apologize for the great commentary :]

This game is great, fun with friends, and extremely competitive. There are issues that can be worked out, and some that can't. I'm sure they cant recreate the hosting issue, its going to have to be private matches with our own hosts in order for this game to be good

TDM could use a switch teams mode especially if you want to have clan battles.

1. It would be great to check score without stopping. Put the flashlight function as a D-pad function and bring back sprint look (I don't like to always look at full speed horizontally/vertically, just when people are near). as you can see in the video, the doors open up a few feet before reaching (in this version I am running into the door...Id shoot but if i have a rocket that would be dumb if I'm bunny hopping fast and gaining momentum.. bunny hopping is completely disregarded (watch video)

when switching guns, it'd be great to show all the guns in the selection but having the guns you don't have unhighlighted
7. changing colors would be great in dm/tourney/lastman
8. What Menace didnt realize is since it is a PC port (not a direct or else we wouldn't have these problems) is the PC's hit boxes was the characters body (in xbox you could shoot in between the crotch and still get hit) therefore splash damage in the rocket is significantly reduced which is good (machine gun/shotgun/chaingun were always more dominant in the PC. (Me and Nightmare tested the damage amount with head vs. feet (headshots matter now).

9. I could care less about surface/com rec but they are face paced maps with a lot of killing and awesome spawn points

10. When I jump off a ledge, the damage doesn't come until I start walking (thinking Im getting shot)

11. I love how the maps are exactly like the PC! Extra door in Edge 2, no doors for the Frag Chamber, Window on elevator/no doors in spots on Delta, lights turn off in Lights Off.

Im sure I could nitpick this game back to the old version. Every year the stats reset on Doom 3 MP on XBL. The first year I had an average total of 10-15 days, the 2nd year, 10-15 days, and the 3rd and last time the stats rolled over I had around 10 days of total gameplay.

Monk/Menace/Nightmare and 15-30 other people were in the top leaders and still played religiously. I'd lie to my gf that I woke up at 11am so I could wake up at 6am and play for those 5 hours with my midwest-east coast friends then some more with my west coast friends.

We've got tight niche community on D3 that will move over to Doom 4 even if it were to be like Doom 3 just better graphics, new maps, new guns, more people in MP.

A patch would be the best thing to happen to this game since its release because it has so much potential to have a competitive side to it

I have yet to fire up the multiplayer on the BFG edition (Still having a blast in single player). Even in single player I find the lack of "hot keys" to be odd. These multiplayer issues sound like a real game breaker. Let's patch this baby up!

Like all the rest of the Doom players on this forum I myself have played Doom for quite awhile and even with some of the people in here too for long periods of time. So not much room to say much of anything else since most of all the greater problems were already talked already in this forum but even myself playing Doom 3 for the original Xbox I saw also a few things I'd like to see a patch for myself which includes small things like...

Team Changing -- When i play team deathmatch and you join a game apparently you have to join in a certain order to be on the same team with the person you want to be on with versus the Xbox Doom 3 where you could change your teams whenever you wanted to or even have a 3 on 1 match.

Splash Damage -- It might be me that's frustrated about this but the splash damage in the Xbox Doom 3 had a higher splash ratio say when using rockets where you could basically kill anyone with one or two rockets where in the BFG edition the splash damage has decreased tremendously where you almost need a whole clip of a rocket launcher if not more to actually kill someone and have to shoot the rocket directly at them now.

Controller settings -- Also a smalldetail that isn't probably too much of a big deal but in the Xbox Doom 3 the crouch button was on the left joystick where in the BFG edition its now on the right, me personally I liked it in the Xbox Doom 3 because instead of just being able to run around and jump to dodge bullets and being able to shoot I liked being able to duck while I shoot too in the middle of a battle.

Grenades -- Evilm0nk and I tested this theory where we found in the BFG edition where if you are host you can throw the grenade perfectly and also kill yourself by holding it too, if your are not host then if you hold on for too long you basically throw 2 grenades at once and you wont be able to hold onto the grenade to even kill yourself.

Leaderboards -- The leaderboards are in my opinion way more difficult to look at, I mean yeah you play a certain game mode and map you get recognized just for that. I liked it better in the Xbox Doom 3 where you could see your score overall annually or weekly and actually see who's at the top of the game. Not really much of a complaint but in my eyes just make things seem easier and the better people get recognized.

Like I said the main points of the BFG edition were already said and I could go on about talking about them too but like everyone else in this forum I'd like to see a patch or something, anything done about these problems whether I'd have to wait a few months to have a patch with all these problems fixed at once or several patches that fixes certain problems overtime. I myself will always be a Doomer and I do appreciate ID and Bethesda for working on this project but hopefully you are all willing to hear us out and make some kind of changes to make the BFG edition all worth while (even though it is just more improvements) and have Doom 3 be a wide known game again to where every store will have a midnight opening for it and people will stand in line for hours to wait for it. I live in Arizona and they didn't even have a midnight release of it because of it being "Not that big of a game to promote" and I find that hard to believe. So keep Doomin' everyone, probably see you all sometime on live playing tourney or deathmatch.

DD and God!!! Thanks for supporting!

DD can shed some light on the splash damage and how we as Xbox players were actually spoiled, the PC is the original and if the Xbox had been made like the PC in the first place, we wouldn't be complaining about splash damage.

Hosting and lag are seriously the main issues.

My door comment only applies if you lag and aren't host.

Machine gun acts in the same way the PC version (not a consistent burst of bullets)

Last night I played with east coast at 2-300 ping, when I hosted everyone had 5-600. No this might be my connection, although I've played with people in Japan, Russia, uk, France, Spain, etc.

With the release of BFG in Europe, the USA will now not be able to play a decent game with any of our players, and we are the best of the best on console (especially DD with his chain gun ;)

What we need to do is not look at D3 Xbox, but compare this game to D3 PC, as we're wasting energy trying to make this game into something it wasn't in th first place.

I agree with all these players from the original community. I also agree that we are receiving the PC version & that is exactly what we all said we wanted to begin with. But the lag is terrible & worse than it ever was on the og xb port. This makes no sense since other recent, larger games using iD tech run better with so much more going on at 1 time. I may be mistaken, but at the bottom of each Call of Duty case it reads,"This product contains software tachnology licensed from iD software (iD technology"). Alot more people & guns, as well as things blowing up & flying through the air. Night & Day & no disrespect to DOOM 3 which will always be "The" superior shooter. Other great games have had similar issues & fixed them. Gears 3 felt slow to people so they sent an update with a doubled sensitivity. Tekken 6 had the choppiest lag and they updated & fixed it. I know this is a rerelease, & G knows we appreciate it.
But perhaps you should look at this from a different angle. People are gong to ee his game on he shelves & say, "Doom 3 huh? I heard this game was the truth back in the day. Must've been somethin' serious to put so much effort into rereleasing it after all these years. I think I'll give it a try." When this guy plays online (Let's face it, multiplayer is the key selling point on consoles) he's already used to games such as Halo, Call of Duty & even Battlefield. He's going o be sorely disappointed when he can't hit a target he "clearly" has a beat on. Why aren't his shots connecting? Not only will he stop playing. He will let his friends know how bad his D3 experience was & disencourage possible future Doom players from giving it a chance.
I know you are concerned with DOOM 4, but if you don't fix this it will cost you a large portion of the community you could have had in the future. Your main focus may be the PC gamers but console gamers are just as dedicated.

Excellent points everyone, especially WHO and Wargazm. It really would be great if we could at least get a reply from a professional about our concerns. I think we have more than thoroughly proven our points and loyalty to the game. What do you have to say Gstaff?

I do have to comment on the lag. The off-host latency is simply unbelievable. With this ping who928, there is only death for me :)

I would like to be able to host ranked 1v1 matches. Just like I am with Doom 2 XBLA.

I would appreciate it if they somehow balance the lag, just like it was in Doom 2 XBLA where both players had the same amount of lag.

Quake 3 Arena Arcade is a great game in it's core, but it's host advantage makes it unplayable on a competitive level.

No lag is perfect! 1 shot shotgun hit, 2 at long range.

Also, what is up with team deatatxh not being able to switch teams?! I had 5 people come into my room and they all left because they were stuck on my team.

Also no voting? The PC had direct voting to go from map to map and game type to game type.

I love hosting though ;) I just beat everyone in the room if their host then they leave and them I become host and never leave :)
