A Dovahkiin's best friend, Barbas

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 1:50 pm

I started the quest "A Daedra’s Best Friend" and found a dog names Barabs to be my temporary companion while I worked through the quest. As many of you experience, you don't always plow through one quest from beginning to end. To the note, I had Barbas with me for dozens of quests. Smartest move I have made in Skyrim. Let me tell you why....

First and foremost Barbas CANNOT DIE! (Now maybe this is a glitch?) but I am ok with it. Barbas is the best ally in the game. Not only is he unable to die but he draws the attention of most the enemies I come across. Even Dragons focus on him and I am left to mess that dragon up with ease. His ability to draw attention in a fight is especially valuable in tight spaces like dungeons.

The only downside is the barking. Barbas barks all the %*$*^*# Time. That tends to be really annoying. If you can put up with it, fighting will be much easier with him at your side.

Last thing is to be sure not to actually finish the quest. Without giving anything away, lets just say that by finishing this quest you are forced to make some tough choices.

Yeah, just don't stop to admire too many waterfalls when you have him in tow...

Be sure to keep your distance from high ledges. My brother was pushed off a cliff when the little pup stuck his nose up his rear.

This thread is a double isn't it? I posted something and my post is not there. Yeah, the title was different; it was about Barbas being immortal and if it was a glitch but the first post was the same...

I don't like Barbas. He's noisy, pushes me off waterfalls and generally bumps into me whenever he has a chance. It's totally not fun that I can't stand in one place because Barbas keeps pushing me around. Not to mention that my arrows hardly ever reach their target when I have two atronachs and a dog in the way.

I get rid of him as soon as I can.

Oh Barbas, how you annoyed me. Then spoilers, and now you dont.

Bastard kept shoving me around and drove me nuts with the constant flow of noises. Remended me quite a lot of minecraft wolves. I have a mod that lets me eat those.

:swear: Oh, I hate Barbas! He is the most annoying NPC in the Elder Scrolls, more so than the Adoring Fan.

I was so happy when I was given two options at the end of this quest. I'll give you two guesses to figure out which one I picked.

Barbas is horribly annoying.

Not so much the barking, but all that constant nudging. My character needs some space, what's with all the running into my character.

I actually kind of wonder why Bethesda didn't fix that. They must have know about it if they ever tested that quest.

I decided against getting a dog IRL for this reason.

Barbas is the best NPC in the game. No other NPC has so deeply involved me in an emotional attachment--not Delphine, not Esbern. Nobody. The constant barking, the cute little bumps off a cliff, nothing else in the game gets me so emotionally involved.

I've been looking forward to playing a character that can justify the axe murder quest resolution. Skyrim will probably reach a new high point for me at that point.

It is how some dogs are. They seek your attention and will push you with their wet nose. If you never had a dog then you will probably not know. Just be glad that he did not try to hump your leg, too.

Dumb dog,
Why are you following me?
I ain't got a crumb dog,
How about lettin' me be?
I ain't gon-na feed you,
Ain't got a scrap for you.
Need you?
Don't give me a rap for you.
Dumb dog dumb-er than they come dog.
You're the most presumin' dog
That a human could know. - Annie, Musical

Did anyone NOT choose the Masque of "Darth" Clavicus? The Weapon was a dud in comparison (and rightfully so for story reasons).

Ohhhhhh....I hates that dog

Currently doing the quest with him... can't wait to rid myself of him. The constant pushing is beyond annoying and totally unnecessary, unless they want the player to say 'bye bye' ASAP.

Technically it's and exploit.

I kept the Masque. I won't kill things that don't try to kill me...especially if a Daedric Prince is telling me to.

Edit: He's supposed to be annoying so you won't keep him for the entire game. :o
