Dragons = Oblivion Gates: Don't Do the Main Quest and You Ne

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 5:42 am

Forget fighting dragons in the wild, watching them pick fights with giants, guard towers, etc. is one of the most entertaining things in the game.

Why wouldn't you want to meet Dragons? They are awesome!

Wait...So your saying even if i beat the MQuest there are still dragons flying about terrorizing everyone? Then what is the point?

when we killed osama bin ladin all the other terrorists didnt simply flop over dead. plus theres lore associated with why they all just dont dissappear, and since enough has been ruined already ill let you find out on your own

I realized this and pretty quickly too, dragons are extremely annoying.

What I do is, kill the first dragon, then go talk to the Greybeards and get my "Ro" and second Shout. After that, I leave the main story line alone and work on other things, so when I actually do the main story line, it's higher level and more fun.

In my OPINION, anyone who plays with dragons 'turned off' is just silly, they make a huge difference to the game both dynamically and aesthetically

In my OPINION, anyone who can not see the rather obvious RP reasons for not doing the main quest is a fool.

The main quest leads you down the path of being the hero from prophecy. What about the people, like me, who want to play a murderous scumbag?

Well I dont mind dragons (at least for now). Mainly because i really enjoy to upgrade/recieve shouts, and dragons are needed for those. Actually, when going around, i think: "I wish a dragon just came here so that i could kill him....."

Why would you want to avoid the best encounters in the game?

Do the main quest until mom calls you home for supper, then just don't go home for supper and you really haven't started the main quest, but you'll get dragons flying around.

You'll know what I mean when it happens.

you have the option. but i agree, the whole games based around dragons, and its not like you can avoid helgen or people saying ROFL BRO U SURVIVED THAT DRAGON ATTACK? so why not have them as an added element? its not like you have to hunt down all the power words.

On my second character I have avoided triggering Dragon spawns because they are so easy and common they get to the point of being an annoyance. If I don't deal with them all the NPCs in towns get killed off.

Why would you want to avoid the best encounters in the game?

Best encounters on the game? Bwahaha. "Dragons are unscripted, we don't know what they will do". Yeah right. After dropping 20+ Dragons on my first character I can safely say Dragons do pretty much the same thing every time.

I did that until level 20, but then i wanted to kill something else than wolves. Dragons are actually pretty fun, at least more than oblivion gates. And the main quest is the best in Elder Scrolls since daggerfall.

the whole games based around dragons
I don't care. This is my game now, now Bethesda's. Once the game is in my hands, so is the story. Right now I'm doing something similar to what waldorfTM is doing: I'm playing a non-dragonborn mercenary, just an ordinary person trying to get along.

There are game play and meta-gaming and power-gaming (and purely fun) reasons to want Dragons in the game. And there are roleplaying reason to not want Dragons in the game. Neither of these choices is "silly."

Yeah, I don't think Dragons appear until you kill the one attacking Whiterun, because that is supposed to be the part where you figure out you can absorb dragons...

I think this is true.

i haven't gone up to bleak falls barrow yet either
(that's where you have to get the horn of jugen something right?)

all I did concerning the main quest was kill the first dragon and visit the greybeards and there's plenty of dragons
just killed my first blood dragon

so it's no biggie those 2 things are easy and don't really progress the MC or ruin anything in the world
if you want dragons start the MC and leave it, I had no intention of leaving it but there's just so much stuff to do I sort of forgot about it XD

For me, I played the main quest line up until the one or 2 parts after you're done with the graybeards. I got the graybeard shouts that you get for free and there's dragons roaming around which makes traveling a lot of fun. i'm going to leave the main quest alone now and do all of the side quests. I think I'm almost done with the Dark Bros, and about half way through the thieves guild. I'll probably do all of those different "guilds" quests, then pick a side in the war, then finish the main quest last.

It svcks because I want dragons and shouts, but I don't want to progress the main storyline just to get dragons in the wild.
My sentiments exactly.

I'm about 30 hours into the game, and I've only been to Riften and areas within The Rift.

Should probably go see what all the Dragon fuss is about.

If it makes any difference, you only have to do like 2 quests for the MQ before dragons appear. One to go to a cave and one to fight a dragon.

Or if you are on the PC you could just use a console command to make the game think you've completed the first few quests in the MQ.

It's weird that a lot of people don't want dragons in their game. Skipping oblivion gates is one thing, as each one was just a rather large dungeon that was tedious to get through with a mediocre reward. I see dragons as just another natural enemy in the land with a better reward and difficult combat. Even if I don't fight them they add flavor to the land and cause off chance massacres.

Level 38 listener and master of the thieves guild wearing full legendary daedric with a fully furnished house and several daedric artifacts. Haven't visited the Jarl of Whiterun yet. Havn't unlocked a dragon shout yet, even though I'm guessing from my huge repetoire of them I have nearly every single one.

It's not that I mean to put off the MQ, I just never seem to get round to it. Will probably do it on another character.
