Dueling Anywhere: How important is it for you?

Post » Sat Aug 10, 2013 5:38 am

I am aware that dueling is available in Cyrodiil, and Cyrodiil only. I dug through many pages of forums and couldn't find anything about the community constructively discussing the feature of dueling anywhere in the world and not just Cyrodiil.

The addition of this feature is very important to me and hope they will change this aspect of the game. The addition of dueling only adds to the game as a whole. Having a custom setting to automatically decline duels will make this addition almost invisible to players that don't want a part of it. It will add to what a player could see on the outskirts of town. A player might see a fight taking place between two RP'ers who got in a bar fight. You might also see a group of people in a circle trying to duke out who is the best around the city or who has a superior build.

I frequently get in little silly fights with my guildmates or friends that I am playing MMOs with and instantly challenge them to a duel to settle our little tiff. Having to head to Cyrodiil just to duke it out for 3 minutes wouldn't be an ideal situation.

My huge past time in other MMO's is dueling outside of cities and testing my builds and characters against others. I love this added community presence to the entire world and not only one designated area. The choice to duel or not is completely voluntary and would cause almost no lash back on those not wanting to partake in it.

Edit:

Hlaren ShortSheath's post made me think of a great additional layer to dueling that I haven't seen implemented in any MMO I have played.

What would everyone think about adding additional duel layers?

1 - 1v1 Challenge a player to a duel. (loser doesn't die)

2 - 1v1 Challenge a player to a duel to the death. (loser dies and has durability loss etc of items)

3 - 2v2 Challenges anywhere if there are two groups of grouped people

a - The two parties can make a wager on the duel and set down a object of some sort on the ground and the winners get to loot it when they win and the other player loses the money

That would be so much fun ! >_<

Please everyone let me know how you feel about this feature and what you would prefer, or even if you care or not. I'm obviously still going to buy TESO if this isn't implemented, but would hope that some time in the future this could be changed.

Edit:

Arenas:
The addition of arenas all around the world would be awesome as well for spectators / gamblers / duelists. There could be arena hot spots around main cities. I think a large portion of PVP MMO players would be drawn to this feature.

EDIT: There is no dueling for people on the same faction -_-.

http://elderscrollsotr.mymiddleearth.com/2013/07/17/paul-sage-eso-live-interview-on-mmorpg-com/

Hope this can be fixed...

He states in one question that there will be dueling then on a later more detailed question states there is no faction dueling at all...

QUESTION:
Will there be some kind of arena (like that in Oblivion) where I can challenge other players or at least NPCs to a duel, with perhaps the option of staking?

Thanks for doing this Paul! And nice name by the way (it's mine too)

All dueling an PvP activity currently takes place in Cyrodiil. We don't have an arena for it in the PvE areas.

then it was later contradicted in that very same Q&A with this statement:

Quote

The second quote explicitly says there won't be any kind of "same faction" dueling in this game, anywhere.

Without FFA PvP dueling is %100 necessary for proper role-play. Granted it requires both parties agree to fight but at the same time it's better than no dueling at all. If you are role-playing with others who know how to role-play they will mostly not refuse the fight if the conversation has taken that kind of turn.

Here's the thing. Yes, I want it badly. But, that is not what concerns me.

I love ESO. I want it to succeed so badly. I just hope they don't leave too many features out of the game, to the point it starts to feel like a knock off or a cheap game.

So how about multiple layers of dueling?

Challenge character to duel and...

Challenge character a duel to the death ??

The more options the better!

I'd love layers to two players fighting each other voluntarily everywhere in game.

Talk about bragging rights, if you're standing next to 5 dead bodies of people you fought to the death with...

EVEN wagering between the two parties before a duel/fight to the death!

mmmm so much fun,

I completely agree, I don't roll play at all, but if I did this feature would be VERY important to me...

I want dueling, simply because it's good for role-playing. Apart from that, I couldn't care less.

An arena would be pretty cool. You could have people fighting to the death and players that want to could watch from the pews.

The point is being able to partake in pvp while not affecting the pve atmosphere of other players. Arenas around the world would be a nice addition but still my main point is to be able to duel people anywhere. An arena or Cyrodiil is limiting where I can duel without a good reason/cause.

The main point is to not limit in game interactions without good reason. Limiting dueling is limiting in game interactions without a cause. I second that an arena would be a great addition to the world which if I'm not mistaken Oblivion had an arena in it? But there isn't a good reason that I have heard to limit two people dueling anywhere at anytime.

You could do that on duels as well. Also, Skyrim had dueling.

That sounds great, I'd love it! Gotta have dueling though too. You need to be able to beat your guildmate / friend / brother in the back of the head and not kill him to teach him a lesson and not to kill him.

theres a lot of people who want what and Love deeply to duel .. im just not among them only because in many of the mmo's ive played the pvp and duel just not the same and really screwed up my way of fighting .. so I stuk with and will stik with pvp ...

in many mmo's you will see people that want to duel just get some one near death and then bak off and not kill them .. calling it a duel (which im perfectly ok with)

I need dueling. In Tera, that was all I did. PvP wasn't fun in that game... only dueling, although no one wanted to really duel me.

I just want something like a sparring match. It's something players can participate in that allows them to test their strength against their friends.

Well this is going to be in the game my big request is that it not just be in Cyrodiil. If you can do it in Cyrodiil would that be good enough for you?

this ^ right here is pretty much my main compliant with dueling .. the way you train and react in a duel is what I used to prepare for pvp many years ago . but when you actually got to the pvp area or level it was totally different then what happened in dueling

I wanted it for outside. My idea is that it is not a fight to the death, but rather something that allows same faction members to test their strength.

I agree completely. It would be insanely fun for me to just sit in an arena crowd area to watch people fight to the death if I was studying or working. Make bets with someone sitting next to me etc... This would be an amazing addition to the game and I could see myself using that as a past time after all in game content is explored and done.

Yeah, anywhere. However, it's more of a one on one situation than a warzone.
