So... Dunmers on Solsteim

I never said it wasn't the classic, what I said was that the classic "Morrowind" voice wasn't in the new dlc.

And what do you mean by that? I also happen to think that the way bethesda has done "spears" is either a complete missunderstanding of what people wanted, or just some cruel jape at spear lovers.

In any case, I actually think the morrowind style Dunmer voices are very important to their character and feel, which is why I would've loved to finally hear them in a newer game. I'm not saying it'll stop me buying the expansion.

Well, it is what it is. Me personally, I don't sweat these minor details. Kinda like the current accent.

@Gytrash Doesn't really matter. I'm fairly sure he was simply responding to my OP instead of yours, thereby saying that the dunmers on Skyrim Solstheim doens't have "classic" voices. Simple missunderstanding really.

In any case, darn it... Clearly they used him in FO3, both demos for OB and Skyrim, why don't we ever get proper Dunmers :(

@He-who-remains Of course it is what it is. But to me, the accent is not a minor detail as such. It's mostly because I adore the dunmer and only play as them. Therefore it greatly effects my enjoyment. Of course it's a detail, bu certainly a quite major one from my point of view.

You said their voice wasn't classic so I took it as you saying the raspy voice wasn't classic.

Their voices aren't classic, but there are other things that'll remind you of Morrowind.
That's my first post, when I said they weren't classic, I was referring to the voices in the dlc, which aren't the classic voices.

And that's where the misunderstanding was.

It would be nice to have an official representative of gamesas come here and give definitive answers to all of our questions.
Or in the very least some of them.

You would think they would put in those voices. Saint Jiub had a raspy voice when you met him in the Soul Cairn.

Ye, I know this topic will always be reduced to mere speculation, but clearly there must've been an actual reason. I don't think anyone would've complained if the dunmers had kept their "ashen" voices in OB and Skyrim despite being away from Red mountain, where as there have been lots of complains the other way. I'm not even sure what I find worse, the dandy voices of OB or the australian ( I think? ) ones frmo Skyrim, both seem terribly unfitting.

@Who iz asain O.O... I've never seen that, where is this from? Now things makes even less sense

I'm assuming most of you have heard the dunmer in the jarl's building in Winterhold who has a really raspy voice for only one line of dialogue then it goes back to the regular cockney accent. It's very odd.

this is something i really don't undestand from Bethesda's side, both Oblivion and Skyrim demos had the classic dummer raspy voices and also diferent voice actor for other races that most of the time sounds better than the ones that got in the final product, like in the Skyrim Demo, Alvor the blacksmith from Riverwood had a diferent voice that we don't find anywhere in the final game, that would be a nice variation to not 90% of the nords sounds like Jarl Balgruuf for example :(

and that Demo came what, 1, max 2 months before the game release? it simple don't make sense :(

@house stak No, I hadn't I'll try and find a video of it.

@Vonbalt Hm... I don't know. Could it be wanting to present the game as well as possible. Like how the Oblivion presentation was somewhat misleading with the "dynamic" conversations and actions and such? What I'm saying is that they may have pulled in the voices they know fans wanna hear just for the presentation, simply to lure us in.

Now, this was explained to be due to them living in a non ashen area of the world, which I guess makes sense.

It's a rumour... and a not very logical one, at that.

Well Saint Jiub has the original Morrowind Dunmer voice when you meet him in the purple place of terror. It was cool to hear the voice again but then I got sad listening to what had happened to him. o_o

Anyhow I kinda wish they had at least included a few of the Dunmer on Solstheim having that voice.

Well, in the french version the dunmers have raspy voices, quite similar to Morrowind.

Lucky bastards. I think in the German version, they sound a bit raspy, too. I have no idea how they sounded back in Morrowind in German, though.

Well if you count the teases for Oblivion and Skyrim along with Dawnguard the voice has been in every TES after Morrowind (Was also in Redguard).

Awh, I was really looking forward to something that reminded me of Morrowind, I guess I was getting my hopes too high...
The whole expansion is straight Morrowind nostalgia. You'll forget about their voices once you hear the music. So mush better than Skyrims music

I think in lore the raspy voices were because the Tribunal, specifically Vivec, told males to speak in raspy voices.
