Ebony Warrior: More than just a fight?

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 8:42 am

I seriously considered sneaking up and stabbing him in the back from behind after that, but then he wouldn't die a warriors death and would not be welcome to Sovngarde.

Well, he died violently, and he had the mindset of fighting honorably. Mabye Shor would cut him some slack. But if you do sneak attack him, don't feel too guilty. He's not a Nord anyway, so odds are he's not getting in.

I still haven't beat the bugger, but it is too funny that he is not a Nord. Can you imagine the conversation between him and Shor? That would be worth seeing.

Did you become a spaceman?

"Spaceman"?...
No, I became Intergalactic Man!
I'm sure I went into Aetherius and saw all the Aedra... then they threw me back down right under Karstaags' feet...

I say he let him in. He makes everyone else look like milk drinkers. If he's that boss, Ysgramor must've been like the Bruce Lee of TES....with an axe.

Okay so a lot of us know about this so called Ebony Warrior who is a ridiculously hard man to defeat. When he approaches you however he talks about how there are no more quests for him, no more people to help, no dungeons to clear, and so on. I was just curious about the purpose behind this quest. Is there supposed to be some hidden message or connection between you and the Ebony Warrior? I know it sounds weird and is hard to explain what I mean but if you kind of understand what I'm saying, I just want to hear a few thoughts on this.

no logical explanations....its a joke from todd...we have to say anything more ? :bunny:

There's a lot of characters and references that strongly imply that using the Thu'um is a Nord only trait.

Chances are if he could use (and arguably, master) that, he's likely to have sealed himself a place at the dining halls of Sovngarde.

He'd seem like an odd man out, but I think it wouldn't take long for them to grow used to him and welcome him amongst their kin.

Besides, personally, I think the most honorable Nords (the one's that get to go to Sovngarde that is) aren't typically of the racist variety.

Two things. First one, anyone can use the thu'um, but its usually Nords only because its their tradition and wouldn't normally give it to an outsider. Second thing, any nord, even a racist or evil or whatever his disposition can get in Sovngarde as long as he dies a warriors death, or dies after a life of battle. Doesn't matter what they think anyway. Shor is the only one with the say.

Edit: This sounds a bit snarky, but I did not mean for it to. Just sharing some info.

Well, the way I figure it, even when Nords are racist, most aren't really racist against Redguard, it's kind of uncommon. I'd think as long as you weren't a Mer, and you really wanted to get into Sovngarde, and you died a warrior's death or whatever, You could likely get in. But who knows, like almost all of TES' divinity and lore, it's really vague and subjective/left up to interpretation.

I see it as:

Say you want to go to Sovngarde when you die. If you die an honourable death, which is one of the requirements to get to Sovngarde, you go to Sovngarde.
Say you want to go to Hercine's Hunting Grounds. If you die hunting or whatever it is to get there, then you go there.

I think anyone can go there, it's just that it's a Nord thing to go there. Most Nords want to go there when they die. But, if a Redguard wants to go there, and he dies honourably, then I believe he'll be allowed in.

I'm not saying that this is "set in stone", but this is how I see it.
I could be completely and entirely wrong, which I probably am. But this could explain why the 'Ebony Warrior' wants to go to Sovngarde.
Either that, or another Theory is that he's Completely Dillusional, Mentally Insane, and is trying to make people kill him in a fight to miraculously get to Sovngarde.

I wondered this myself my theory is that at some
point after he learned to use thu'um he got hit really hard on the head and thinks he's a nord. you never know anything is possible in TES if you dig around hard enough

I was thinking he might possibly be Herbane. Bored of writing books, seen everything, he has to die somehow. I might be forgetting a lot of lore though, so my apologies if he died way beforehand.

I was surprised to see Olaf One-Eye in Sovngarde. He seemed fairly... normal, despite his reputation.

Yea, makes you wonder if that bard was full of it. That or all the food n' drink made him stop acting like a [censored].

You do fight him in Draugr form, but I wonder if that's one of the rare cases of our characters being in a villainous role without knowing it.

I reckon that was one of the toughest fights in the game simply because of the numbers coming against you-imagine that in Solstheim on master?

Well, they come at you in waves unless you're me and used Battlecry to piss everyone in the room off for a bigger challenge. Boy was that tough.

I get what you're saying.

He's a character in the world who is in the same situation as your character. Both are level 81, both have cleared hundreds of dungeons and done hundreds of quests. By that time, there's little else to do in Skyrim in terms of dev-crafted content.

Which, by the way, is the exact reason I never got to 81. I specialize in 5-8 skills, use most my perks there, and if I'm a warrior, I don't do factions quests for other factions. I might do it with my current character, but taking down Deathlords with the Flames spell with 100 magicka might be tough.

He's probably challenging if you play on a higher difficulty and didn't turn invisible.
What if he's playing as an assassin?

Assassins can fight in straight forward battles. I did all the time on my rouge characters. Dual wielding.

No, their is nothing behind it. They just put a very difficult boss in for a challenge for the people who were level 81.

where's the fun in looking at it like that, I mean it's a red guard thu'um user who thinks he is going to sovngard when he dies thts what this discussion is really about trying to work out what the hell he is going on about and the parallels to your character are unmistakable almost. sorry if that came over all rantish lol

I thought this guy was THE hardest battle I faced. Kudos to anyone who can handle him without any problems. I got wiped at least a half dozen times, probably more.... Actually I think I got lucky with Mehrunes Razor....

He was fast and deadly. I left my followers behind and foughtb alone - giving him as honorable a death as I could.

I left him with all his gear as homage.

He deserves a toast!
