Ebony Warrior: More than just a fight?

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 3:45 am

235 damage?
That's A LOT lol...my fully smithed Auriel's Bow does something like 55 damage+enchant...and that's with 100 Smithing and +25% smithing enchants on ring and neck...
you must not have the elven perk or whatever auriels bow falls under as 55 is low

I will have to try to reload and fight him the same as alduin, nekkid with only my axe and my balls

My personal take on the Ebony Warrior: An Easter Egg
He's a respectful nod to one of the hardest and most discussed fights in Morrowind: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tribunal:Gaenor

Perhaps others will finally notice. :whisper:

No, I am certain my reading comprehension was more than adequate. I agree, you said "it wasn't impressive enough to brag about." It reminds me of an episode of Bully Beat Down I once saw. One of the bullies kept refering to himself as "the line," in respect to the seperation of "the men" from "the boys." Throughout every conversation he had, he never did put together the glint in peoples' eyes and the smirks on their faces every time he would say, "I am the line." To each their own.

People should kill him however they want... Also, you made a stealth character which is made for sneak attacks and then are told that beating a tough warrior with the way you built your character to do is cheap? So they want you to run up to the hardest enemy in the game with your little dagger...

I agree, just don't brag about it. It's not impressive.

Okay so a lot of us know about this so called Ebony Warrior who is a ridiculously hard man to defeat. When he approaches you however he talks about how there are no more quests for him, no more people to help, no dungeons to clear, and so on. I was just curious about the purpose behind this quest. Is there supposed to be some hidden message or connection between you and the Ebony Warrior? I know it sounds weird and is hard to explain what I mean but if you kind of understand what I'm saying, I just want to hear a few thoughts on this.
I like to think of the Ebony Warrior as Red from Pokemon Silver/Gold. He's much like you in that he's an adventurer who has seen it all. You are the only thing he has not conquered. I fought him fair the first time, and we fought our way down a mountain. My next encounter with him will be atop Odahviing, who is invincible. xD

The Ebony warrior's more a satirical play on the player character, than a reference to Gaenor. In fact, it is more than likely a combination of those.

I don't think increasing hp's makes the game harder. Just takes longer to do the same thing.

Doing 3 backstabs as opposed to one isn't my idea of a tough fight.

Enemies do more damage on higher difficulties. Any baby can sneak and hit him with a dagger..oh well, everyone knows you're a troll.

I think he's a play off both Gaenor and Ulfgar the Unending.

Calling total BS on this. You were sneaking or had it on a lower difficulty. I was shooting arrows at him from a potion/enchant looped Daedric Bow(with 2 elemental damage enchantments), Dragon bone arrows, 70 dmg poison, 5/5 perks in Archery damage, at least 2 pieces of armor with Archery damage 37%, and his health barely budged. Complete BS.

I used an Elixer of True shot (50% bow damage), a Virulent Poison (the one that does 50 anyways), and sneak attacks. And I took him down in Two arrows on Master. First shot took him to his knees, the second finished him. It wasn't [censored], I just had the best possible scenario for taking him out, really.

As far as the bragging thing goes, I personally didn't mean to brag at all. Only to attribute that, done with proper tactics and planning, ANY enemy in the game, no matter how uber, can be dropped like a sack of Potatoes. Ebony Warrior is no Exception.

On my main save, the one where I actually beat him and continued, I beat him on master, with my sword and shield. It took for [censored] ever, blocking his power attacks and hitting him with my own. I also think it's funny how you talk about how it's supposed to be 'honorable close quarters combat' when the [censored] uses Fus Ro Dah to get you on your back and then starts slicing away at you, with his vampire sword no less. I'm sorry, but that's not how honorable combat goes, Ebony warrior doesn't fight for honor, he fights to win, because if he's gonna lose he wants to know he lost to someone who could actually beat him, not just someone who would take advantage of chivalry. He's the kind of guy that would probably throw sand in your eyes if it were an option. There is absolutely no need to pull punches on this guy. At all. Even WITH uber weapons he is still a moderate challenge and a significant step up from the rest of the enemies in the game, but keeping that in mind, he's beatable, and if you know what you're doing, he's easily beatable. Don't try and discredit people who had superior tactics and beat him easily just because you had a hard time or think everyone else HAD to have had a hard time. Sure, their ways might not be 'honorable,' but the dude died either way, and there's still Honorable ways to beat him easily. I personally have taken down the ebony warrior 18 times. 6 times on master, the rest on novice. The ebony warrior has killed me 3 times, all on master. 4 of the 6 of those times I beat him on master, were with my Shield and Sword warrior, blow for blow, like how it should be. 1 of those times I didn't use anything out of the ordinary to win, just standard smithed Dragon armor and Dragonbone weapons. It's possible to beat him easily, while still fighting honorably. I know it's hard to swallow, but it's true. Doubt it all you want, but there will be Youtube videos up within the next few weeks of people doing the same things I said here, probably even better than I did.

snip

No one doubted that you did it. We doubted that you did it without sneak attacks, which you confirmed is what you did. As for getting mad about having a hard time, that isn't it, it's bragging which you say you didn't mean to, so whatevs. Water under the bridge. If you did mean to brag, then no apologies from my side. Cheap is cheap.

He reminds me of Umbra from Morrowind...Long lived, with nothing more to complete but a warriors death.

Perhaps he is an allegory of player characters.
i suppose, but i think bethesda should've hold off on the ebony warrior for the last dlc they will make simply to just top off the game properly :). but yea beth did say they were going to continue with skyrim over into 2013. So I'll be looking for the next guy : The Daedric Warrior :) just a thought.

I thought that had been fixed in one of the patches, and my current character isn't a Daedra worshipper. I'd have to start over anyways.

Or better yet, Heimskr, decked out in dragonbone with uber enchantments and every shout ever, and he only attacks you if you're a milkdrinker legion soldier. :bunny:

This guy sounds awesome, but I doubt I could beat him. Getting to 81 and on master, would make the game too hard. I stay on normal and level 50-60.

Though Im going to try master once I get this character decked in her final gear.
