An Elder Dragon Just Attacked Riverwood...

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 9:59 pm

I was minding my own business, going about my day in Riverwood when I hear a huge roar. I then find myself in the shadow of a nasty looking Elder Dragon. I scream for people to run inside, but no, it landed and Gelda attacks it with an iron dagger and Faendal with his trusty bow. I tried to help them but they got roasted before I got anywhere near...

After I a long fight the dragon fell to its knees, and died. I then gave both Gelda and Faendal a proper send off, by dragging them into the fast flowing river. I watched as they disappeared further and further from view, until they went over the waterfall... it was a sad day.

My point is: common NPC's should attack a goddam dragon, they should run for their lives, trying to get inside. I'm just glad Alvor survived.

Both brave and very stupid :P Can't say the residents of Skyrim are cowards, that for sure. They laugh a death . . . and then die.

Wow. Seriously happens ? Dragon attack, and half your questlines are frelled ?

Now that's what I call frustrating. :P However, well, at the very least, it makes you feel that you're in a crisis that is impacting the game-world. Freaking Oblivion gates popping all over and bar Kvatch and the Imperial City (well, during, not the aftermath), it's was more or less business as usual.

Must've been an ancient dragon or something, i had a normal dragon attacking riften once and it got owned by guards and me in 1 minute and it couldn't kill a single npc.

Lol, people were built tougher in those days.

I'd love to see the hood rats of today face off with the teenage vets of yesteryear. (Yes an IRL comparison!)

Wait a minute, you have dragons attack cities that are separate cells from the exterior world? Like Riften/Whiterun/Windhelm? I never had that! Is this even supposed to happen? I only had them appear in exterior world cities/towns...

To the OP. NPCs can be brave too. They have loved ones that they wish to protect also. Yeah they could run and and hide from maybe a bear or a handful of bandits but a rampaging elder dragon is a completely different form of threat; you're most likely going to get roasted any way so you may as well go out with some dignity.

It's the Bethesda way: anyone remember escort missions in MW? I used to tell them to stay put and clear the way ahead, otherwise they'd dash off with their iron dagger and attack an atranoch or something.

It's the same thing in Oblivion. NPCs you're escorting decides to be the hero and charge out into danger against something that could kill them in seconds.
