Elder Scrolls Online? Your thoughts

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 6:27 am

I just saw a news clip about the Elder Scrolls Online. It didn't say much but it's clear which direction Beth is moving after the smash hit Skryim.

Will you play it? Are you excited? Is this the worst possible outcome for TES or the best? Post your thoughts below. Thanks.

They already made a new forum for it :/

I read the gameinformer already, they murdered lore and turned the art style into fable.

This day will live in infamy.

I don't think I'd have the time to play an MMO although I'd like to try it and see what it is like.

I really hope not. To do a succesful mmo they'll have to dumb down graphics, and to me mmo's aren't so fun, only the first time or two around, then become repetitive.... Skyrim on the other hand, it's just so awesome...

Edit: Though all of Tamriel will be cool to see. But going with another Daedric Prince, I hope it doesn't become another Oblvion... The game was great, but the same story and all twice...

Not gameinformer website

Gameinformer magazine. There are about 15 in-game screenshots and 2 or 3 concept art.

Magazine scans get me banned permanently from the website. In fact I think its against the rules to ask for them.
If you want confirmation of what I said go look in the elder scrolls online forum, about half the people over there can back up what I say.

One of the my main concerns is that, if this MMO is successful, they may focus on it and not release another Single-Player Elder Scrolls Game for quite some time if ever (because if they do, it will compete with the MMO sales). Look at World of Warcraft for example, there hasn't been a new Warcraft game ever since. And you know a lot of people are going to throw their money at this right away, simply because of the "Elder Scrolls" in the title.
Secondly, it's an MMO. The player community is going to be [censored], and the lore will be mutilated. There's going to be hundreds of Dark Brotherhood members walking around in plain sight, there will be High-Level characters all having the same exact artifacts, and each corner of the world will be filled with players shouting Cash4Septim advertisemants. Say goodbye to any possible immersion.

At first I thought this was just one more rumor without any proof behind it but then I went to Bethblog.... Well this is something. But I can't say what it will be. Anyway there are a few things I hope it would and wouldn't be:
1. You buy game and play it. No monthly payment.
2. Similar battle system to Skyrim or Oblivion.
3. No walking through other characters.
4. Possibility to drop things where you want just like in main TES games.
5. Equipped items have both stats and look - no separated look and stats like in many other MMORPGs.
6. You can hit whoever you want including other players.
7. If player owns property everyone has their own houses - not just using the same door for different interriors.
8. No fast respawning on enemies. I want to be able to clear a dungeon and walk away before enemies starts to occupy it again. (A few hours would be good for respawning.)

If all these are true in The Elder Scrolls Online then it's worth to try.

I love the Elder Scrolls so I'm going to love it! I think Zenimax is going to make the game while Bethesda will publish it. One concern is that I hope it's available for the Xbox 360 and not just the mac and PC.

Predictable; not interested.

I just hope they don't decide to give the next Fallout the same treatment.

Lore - Beheaded, trampled, kicked, spat on, [censored], burned, shot, clubbed, shot again, and urinated on.

Also the art style is... a bit too much like WOW... the whole thing is too much like WOW... I think I'll pass.

My thoughts are, that it will only be for the PC the console companys won't allow it on their systems. Thus it will have limited sales, however it will probably make them a profit. After a few months the monotony will set in for a large part of the player base who realize its not all that different from WOW, a game many of them have put "years" into. So they go back to wow rather than investing into this new game. As the player base drops it undoubtely will go FTP and if they are lucky the userbase will then skyrocket like it did for DCUO. However DCUO main draw was the real time combat, so if the ES online has point and click it will be dead in the water shortly after going FTP.

Search around you'll find them. Lores Iffy, Graphics are typical for an MMO and mechanics....eh again gonna wait

Also there is a Forum for this, it has its own section just like the TES series and other games that ARENT TES do, go look :D this has nothing to do with Skyrim..

Ridiculous...

Catering more to the newbs who started with Skyrim making a transition from MP games immediately demanding MP and just shafting the longtime fans who've been with the series since the start.

THIS IS A SINGLE PLAYER GAME, ALWAYS HAS BEEN WHY RUIN IT BETHESDA? caps is cruise control for cool

Idk have yet to see anything about it, just wondering how its gonna pan out in several things:

Story: IMHO Beth S.U.C.K.S. at stories so idk how that is gonna pan out but considering ALOT of MMO's have crappy stories it might just work out

Future Single Player Elder Scroll Games: What will this hold for the future of TES SP games? I know alot of times again imo games that mix single player with MP tend to focus on one or the other more and 90% of the time its MP, causing the SP to fail in the game. Now since this seems to be a stand alone TES game it still worries me that they might get to into the MMO market and either stop maken DLC for Skyrim or start failing at maken TES Single Player games in general after words and try to put a MMO feel into their SP games :(

Now I get to have the fears of after the MMO like
"Gasp! Will this new TES game *games announced after the MMO* be a MMO crap or will it be greatness of Single Player?!!!"
"What system will it be for??"

Also it kinda makes me feel like they butcherd their fanbase I mean sure it is good to make changes by why change from SP with their LONG TIME FANS to stuff to seem like they are catering towards casuals each game?:(

I thought they said they would never be maken a MMO game or if they did it wouldn't be Beth really doing it but a third party type of company with overlook from Beth. Again I have not looked at it at all but it kinda worries me.
