Energy Weapons, Mods, and Ammo Mini Thread!

I wanted to like laser weapons but plasma was just so much more powerful. I am hoping I can make a laser sniper rifle though, I tried to do that in fo3 but laser weapons were just too weak and it's hard to snipe without a scope. Then use plasma when things get too close for comfort.

I want the Railgun that was supposed to be in Van Buren or the prototype that was mentioned in Fallout 3...
Could be Gauss or Laser I wouldn't mind either one

Gauss all the way! So awesome, and I hope they put it back in guns though.

Well gauss weapons aren't confirmed yet.
And if they are we have no idea whether or not they will be EW or not.
IMO they fit in EW because they don't use the whole gunpowder and stuff.
More like project a bullet at tremendous speed with electro magnetism. (Or wait.. Is Gauss steam powered weapons?)
So while it still uses a physical object as projectile it's function is different from traditional firearms.

But yeah, gauss weaponry is speculation only.

By the way, you left out "Fire" from the poll.
All fire-based weapons are now Energy Weapons.

Nope Rail Guns use the Electro-Magnetic Rails to magnetize and launch a projectile at ridiculously fast speeds (U.S. Navy experimented with a Rail Gun the projectile launched at such a high velocity and created so much heat that it basically destroys the Rail Gun, hopefully they'll find a way to dissipate the heat so it can be of some practical use), The weapon your thinking of it a Coilgun which uses electro-magnetic coils that also launch projectiles at extremely fast velocities. :tops:

So why are they called Gauss?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Friedrich_Gauss he formulated mathematical descriptions of the magnetic effect used by magnetic accelerators, it seems only fitting. :tops:

Nerds?
I'd like to think of myself as a highly obsessive fan-girl thank you.
Anyway.
Currently there are:
Laser
Plasma
Pulse
Electric (Is this the same as pulse?)
Fire
Alien source

For new suggestions I'd add:
Electro magnetic weapons (yes this includes all gauss weapons)
Acid
Dark Matter (Or whatever, you know the weapon in Red Faction Guerilla, that sniper thingy that made things sorta just disappear into ashes or something, yeah that kind)
More stuff like the Microwave Emitter from Point Lookout. (Is it radiation weapons or heat emitter weapons?)
Steam
Sonic

So to explain it a little, the sonic one does direct damage to the head, not very effective when not used at the brain.
Steam is like a flamethrower, but it's ammo can be filled up with regular water which is way easier to find, it shoots our a burst of extremely hot steam that will give burn damage to just about everything.
It's useless against power armored enemies and insects with thick carapace.
And for the acid one I'm thinking like a big weapon, 8 STR requirement, it works like a hose where it just flushes out a bunch or acid that makes short work of just about anything.

And now I'm bored... I'll finish up some more examples when I'm in a better mood.

Dark Matter?
You mean the nano-forge? The weapon that produce nano-bots/something nano-sized that is used to destroy the target?
Yes, it's the Nano-Forge, and it produce Nano-Bots/Nano-Molecules/Nano-Something to be fired upon your enemies....

Anyway, is Flame considered into energy weapons?
In F:NV, the flamer falls into the category of energy weapons....

Gauss guns are back!!!! :celebration: Hopefully there'll be a mod that makes the Gauss Rifle semi-auto, since that would make it way more useful against enemies that don't go down with 1 hit.

I voted Other, my favourite Energy Weapons type is Solar.

They have unlimited ammo during the day!

List of Solar weapons in Fallout:

Fallout 2: Solar Scorcher
Fallout New Vegas: Archimedes II Orbital Laser Strike

I'm also glad to see the Winchester P94 Plasma Rifle (Plasma Caster) and the Glock 86 Plasma Pistol return.

With the new screenshot of the Gauss Rifle, hopefully the PPK12 Gauss Pistol returns.

Woah! Awesome stuff right there my friend! :foodndrink: We're gonna need tesla armor back to counter so many energy weapons. I forgot all about fire and solar that's why i didn't put it on the list... Good thing we always have OTHER as a choice! :flamethrower: A question for you geeks, should pulse/incendiary/plasma grenades be considered explosive or energy weapon? Let the arguing commence!

Is that skull part of the armor or the helmet?

I think the armor in that pic IS tesla armor, just the Fallout 2esque version of it.

It looks like it's own separate piece, the gas mask also looks like it's separate from the armor and skull. Awesome, more customizing choices.

@Enduring Protectron it looks more like the fallout 3 tesla power armor. The tesla armor that i would like back is different. Not as bulky.

I had an idea for a mod once that was similar (in terms of using water as ammo), except instead of a steamthrower, it was a gun that flash freezed squirts of water into icy flechette rounds. If steam were/is in, I hope my cryo rifle is as well. Or at the very least, the Cryolator that was supposed to be in FO3. Give water the best of both worlds. =)

Oh god, I love the Naval Rain Gun. It launches a projectile so fast that parts of the projectile shed off and ignite within the air.

The thing they really need to work on is the energy consumption. The thing can fire a round at http://www.chips.navy.mil/archives/07_Jan/web_pages/electromagnetic_railgun.html, but utilize about the same amount of energy you'd use in your house for an entire year...In one shot.

I would like a high-pressured air compressor cannon, basically the equivalent of the rock-it launcher from FO3.

Not sure how you would refill on compressed air though.
