Energy Weapons, Mods, and Ammo Mini Thread!

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:26 pm

There are a lot of Gun threads here in the forums but energy weapons seem to not get as much love and attention. Let's start the discussion by speculating what are the other energy weapons that we haven't seen in the trailers/wiki. To me it seems as though we're getting all the classic energy weapons back + new ones. I think that the plasma defender is going to be the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Plasma_Pistol plasma pistol. I haven't seen anything about ANY of the laser pistols, so if you have any info please tell me! We know that the fallout 3 laser rifle is in, and the tri beam too, but don't we all energy weapon nerds agree that we need our http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Wattz_2000_Laser_Rifle#Wattz_2000_laser_rifle laser rifle?! (the modded one looks awesome) And please.. don't let me start on pulse weapons... So what energy weapons do you nerds want/need to have in new vegas?? and any other ideas for new types of energy weapons??

EDIT: Hmm i just noticed this, on the laser rifle http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Wattz_2000_Laser_Rifle#Wattz_2000_laser_rifle AER12 - "The AER12 laser rifle was considered cutting-edge state-of-the-art technology before the Great War and was used only in a handful of specialty units. However, it is not as reliable as the older models like the AER9 or the Wattz 2000, as the focusing crystal array is housed in gold alloys, more vulnerable to years of exposure to environment." Could be a possible new weapon!! (maybe for fallout 4 if it's not in NV)

The old plasma pistols looked way cooler then the ones in FO3, I want the old Plasma Pistol back and not the ugly ass one from FO3 if possible.

What else can turn a 2mm bullet into dealer of death? What I voted for if you can't tell.

But then again, what else can turn pure energy into a dealer of death (besides nuclear)?

Man, the concept of energy weapons is mind boggling. I LOVE IT!!! :fallout:

I love energy weapons...
They are futuristic, and don't require reloading with bullets....
They're lethal, deadly, and high-tech....
They're definitely more cool than ordinary bullets....
Ahhhhhh....... :flamethrower:

Nerds?
I'd like to think of myself as a highly obsessive fan-girl thank you.
Anyway.
Currently there are:
Laser
Plasma
Pulse
Electric (Is this the same as pulse?)
Fire
Alien source

For new suggestions I'd add:
Electro magnetic weapons (yes this includes all gauss weapons)
Acid
Dark Matter (Or whatever, you know the weapon in Red Faction Guerilla, that sniper thingy that made things sorta just disappear into ashes or something, yeah that kind)
More stuff like the Microwave Emitter from Point Lookout. (Is it radiation weapons or heat emitter weapons?)
Steam
Sonic

So to explain it a little, the sonic one does direct damage to the head, not very effective when not used at the brain.
Steam is like a flamethrower, but it's ammo can be filled up with regular water which is way easier to find, it shoots our a burst of extremely hot steam that will give burn damage to just about everything.
It's useless against power armored enemies and insects with thick carapace.
And for the acid one I'm thinking like a big weapon, 8 STR requirement, it works like a hose where it just flushes out a bunch or acid that makes short work of just about anything.

And now I'm bored... I'll finish up some more examples when I'm in a better mood.

I'd like to see some sort of pulse gun. maybe stuns regular people for a few secs and horribly rip apart robots. Oh wait thats the gauss rifle right?

Also we need a magnet gun- (and yes it shoots magnets)

Also a tuning fork like weapon would be interesting- use vibrations or sound too.

I would love the steamer Mr. Fish suggested.

I want a unique plasma rifle or multi plas rifle in honor of Tesla.

I would call it the Nikola AC Special. fires red plasma bursts or blue.

I prefer Laser Rifles/Pistols/Gatling Laser over the plasma guns. They just look a lot cooler. I think Obsidian gave them their due this time around. J.E. Sawyer mentioned that the plasma weapons are going to do the most damage, but also have less accuracy, ammo capacity, and RoF. Laser weapons are supposed to be an all around excellent gun that can cut through lightly armored foes with ease. I can't wait to see what awesome Energy Weapons are going to be in the game. Hopefully the "twice as many weapons" are equally distributed among our precious energy guns. It would be a real shame to see 50 more Guns and maybe 4 or 5 more Energy Weapons.

A really powerful energy sword (kept powered by energy weapon ammo like some classic FO melee weapons) would be nice.

Always thought that was the one thing missing from FO3.

And I do love me some energy weapons. Definitely going to specialize and get in on that action.

As long as it's not a laser sword (ala Jedi Knight. <_< ).

I always wanted to like Energy Weapons. I mean, who don't like green gobs of plasma goo or pinkish-red lazer bolts! However, in vanilla FO3 I just never really thought they lived up to their potential. Even the unique variants like the A3-21 Plasma or Wazer Wifle just never really did it for me compared to the Xuanlong or Lincoln's Repeater IMO. It seemed to me that even with Small Guns and Energy Weapons at 100 the small guns were always a better choice in terms of rate of fire, reload time and overall kills. It just seemed to take less effort to kill the enemy with the small guns. (I primarily use the Xuanlong and an M-1 Garand mod.)

But, I'm hoping that the EW's are tweaked in FO:NV to make them more balanced with their small guns cousins! Either way, I'm sure at some point I'll try them out!

Did you have a bad energy weapon skill %?

The first time I started mopping the floor with enemies in FO3 was when I adopted energy weapons. A3-21's Plasma Rifle was a damn fine supermutant haven cleaner outer.

Wouldn't the beam keep going on forever?? lol Star wars tech is weird...I've been thinking about energy and micro fusion cells, they should have Full - Empty meter instead of the weird 12 cells but only reloading 1. (you know like a battery) That would improve the game just by a little but it still would be better then the old method.

EDIT: Wow gauss is winning, and it wasn't even an energy weapon in the classics. xD My all time favorite is always gonna be pulse weapons!! Oh and i guess that electric, tesla, and pulse fall into the same category guys/gals. :flamed:

I couldn't help but think of a squirt gun what with all the hoses and what-not. The pistol looked more like a fancy stun gun. Whereas the old one actually looked like a gun. The old plasma rifle reminded me of something from Commando Cody.

I completely agree with you there, The Plasma Pistol in FO3 really did look like some sort of futuristic squirt-gun. I don't know about anyone else but when I'm using a gun I want it to look like a gun and not some toy. :tops:

Well the Energy Weapons were meant to look somewhat ridiculous while still having some cool ones.
It fits. :)

I know that, but still they had a perfectly good Plasma Pistol model from the original Fallout games that didn't look like a squirt-gun. :P

Voted for: Plasma weaponry.

Though that's not really telling much as the differences between the weapons are only aesthetic. I would've very much liked, if the game offered different damage and DT types to provide situations where energy weapons would offer an edge over the others weapontypes, and vice versa accordingly.

Actually they were going to have a plasma spear in Van Buran http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Ares

How many different kinds of ammo are going to be in the game? Seems like a real lot?

I think there's only going to be three types for energy weapons
Basic- regular ammo for energy weapons
Overcharged- deals more damage but degrades weapon faster
Undercharged- deals less damage but degrades weapon slower
(the names I don't remember, all I remember is what effects they had)

I voted laser, although I almost always used A3-21's plasma rifle I knida liked laser weaponry a bit more
Favorite was the tri-beam
and you don't know how happy I was to hear that it was going to be in New Vegas ^_^

I feel at home on this thread :)

@paragon I meant how many ammo types in general for all weapons...guns and energy...seems like a real lot. Twice as much as fallout 3? With so many more guns I've seen so many different ammo types mentioned. I hope its not a hassle in itself to make sure you have the right ammo. Will there be a description near all the guns in the inventory telling you ehat ammo it takes or will I be clicking on all different kinds of ammo to see if its right? Do I even need to manage ammo or as long as I have ammo for the gun I have equipped I can just shoot and not have to worry about micro managing?

There needs to be anti-matter weapons! :hubbahubba:

It is actually possible to make it, but to contain it would be an issue. Not to mention, we can currently only make little bits of it at a time, but the energy contained within such positrons and such would be tremendous. Essentially, a very unbalanced god weapon with rare ammunition and little practical use...

However, that is basically what the Fat Man is.
