ESO download starts all over again

Post » Sat Mar 15, 2014 2:18 am

I have a problem. I live in India and we have very low broadband speeds. I have a 2Mbps connection which downloads at a maximum speed of 250KB/s. I also have an 80GB data limit per month.

Now when I started downloading ESO, I knew I was sacrificing 22 GB of download limit but that was fine. I kept the download on for 2 days and on the night of the 2nd day, there was only 450MB left to download. My laptop had been running all day so I decided to continue the download the next morning. When I switched on my laptop the next morning and started the ESO download, I found that ESO installation was downloading 22GB all over again(now it was EU version of the game). This made me mad as hell. The download was fine last night and I hadn't done anything to alter it. Why the hell did the installation automatically cancel my Elder Scrolls Online Beta download and instead start download Elder Scrolls Online Beta(EU) download? I tried switching back to the normal Elder Scrolls Online Beta download but even that is starting again from 0%. It wasn't checking as usual either, it was downloading from the beginning.

So the game is terrible because your ISP is crap, plus you turned your laptop off with 450mb to go.. makes sense. :tops:

I am 99.9% sure you can rename the folders if you just got the NA version...there are a few posts about it here and on the official forums : Forums.elderscrollsonline.com.... don't panic..you don't need to download all the data again...

I downloaded the game when I had my 1.5mb (140ish kbps download) service, That doesnt make the game horrible, your ISP is horrible not the game.

i feel your pain bro i also have a 2mb/sec connection and my max downloading speed is also 250 kb/s but i have downloaded the game and have had no such problems guess it`s just you luck.

also try creating a folder named theelderscrollsonline eu and the copy and paste all the contents of the existing folder into it. might resolve your problem.

What was said is true. Stop your download now and make sure the laucher is set to EU, quit the laucher. Go to the zenimax folder and you will prolly have 3 folders.

ESO EU (shortened the names)
ESO
LAUNCHER

Now rename the EU one to EU1
Rename the none EU folder to EU

Restart the launcher

It all seems fine. Do a file check to make sure. If that comes up fine and all looks good. Try launching the game and the file patch ID is 1.0.0.941004. If that ok then go back into your zenimax folder and delete the one that you Renamed to EU1.

Note: I don't recommend doing the copy/paste method as it can leave behind all those wrong files or partial files that where in the process of downloading.

Hope this helps.

This is what I did when I just woke up and saw the changes.

Everything looks fine so far, but news do not load. Game is launching fine, hopefully it will work when beta is on.

What I did later is I uninstalled US version, then started installation again, paused and copied the EU files into new US folder. Lets see if that fixes US now. Because when I tried to rename back to non EU folder, US stopped working and gave an error.

You are sure its downloading again, normally it just checks the file and only downloads the rest.

When i checked this morning. ESO actually asked me if I wished to switch to the EU version and seemed to do something but i did a file repair just to check.

Just rename the folder adding "(EU)" to the end and then run the repair tool. It should only need to download a few megabytes and you'll be good.

I'll never understand these posts about how people get so mad that thier computer or internet is too crap to run the game. If you were willing to sacrifrice 22GB of you limit to play for just 2 days, then it should't be that big of a deal if you play for 0 days.

Of course, if you were a smart man, you wouldn't have bothered in the first place. Its just a 2 day beta. Sheesh.

Yes but s/he may wish to try the game before buying the DD version. I bet if the shoe was on the other foot, you would be even more vocal.

Perhaps you would feel better in your life if you tried to help people instead of the other.

Um....people I am not complaining about download speed. I was downloading the game on and off for two days. Several times I closed the download and switched off my laptop and later started download again and it was fine. The problem today is that it had almost completed and there was only 450MB left to download last night and I was going to finish the download today. However when I switched it on this morning I found that the download started all over again(it was not checking as usual. It was downloading from the start). I repeat I am not complaining about download speed. The ESO installation just automatically started all over again.

I tried the repair tool as well. Didn't work. I went to the game folder where it was being downloaded and found that the size on disk is only 50MB instead of 21GB. The entire download is gone.

Yeah I know you people in USA and Europe have amazing internet services but in India this is the best we have so we have to deal with it.

There is an official post stating that if the download is interrupted, whether it be from an error or whatever, it may wipe the folder contents and start the download over. :(

Edit: Also make sure you have ample disk space. Even though the game requires ~30 gb, it gave me an "insufficient space" error when I had about 50 gb free, and also restarted my download.

............................ok yeah this is what I was complaining about. I received an error 206. I'm glad to know that Bethesda prefers people to redownload 22GB all over again instead of providing a solution. I know its no issue for people with fast internet speed who can download this in 2 hours but its still stupid to wipe out the entire download.

Well my launcher gives me some dumb warning message saying I need to clear up 60GB of space on my SSD, which isn't going to happen. That being said, the game launches.. I don't know what to do about that message though.
