ESO should get a mature rating (>= 16 years)

Post » Wed May 29, 2013 1:16 pm

You are right that rating and coherence are not related by definition but in practice they are.

A gameword like SWTOR is totally stupid and not coherent.

And look at the US TV stuff for kids. This is totally insane and absurd. Nothing has cause and effect.

Well some advlt content will be fun to encounter, like in Skyrim, I found this book called. The lusty Argonian maid Volume 2, Ended up googling it and saw it on Youtube , I just couldn't help to LoL.

But if it would most -likely have been rated 18+, Its most likely going to be story books that one might encounter ;).

I know i have read quite a few books on Oblivion and Skyrim, I know of two books being discreetly 18+

If it were me i would have stated it like so.

I personally wish the game to have a more mature feel such as nudity, alcohol, more realistic violence all to fit into a more realistic coherent game world. I prefer this for "Insert Reason" What do you guys think about this?

It is less pushy and shows a less inflated self worth, being tactful can convey maturity and validity in a persons statements and opinions.

I would tend to avoid games that get an 'M' rating because I don't like excessive violence. Nudity if fine, but only if it makes sense in the context. I can't really think of any nudity that makes sense in ESO context... maybe if they put in player housing :D

Your feelings on SWTOR and your thought of it being stupid and incoherent has nothing to do with the fact that the game was rated T. Even if they made the game rated M it still would have been the exact same thing. SWTOR wasn't ready to be brought out the way that it was. It needed much much more work on it, but we all know about EA and their greed for money. You need to get out of the mindset that higher maturity rating means that it's story is suddenly more mature. There are many games out there that are rated M and are very immature.

I can only speak for myself.

This is obvious.

Why keeping critisizing me for that ?

Would the forum be a better place if everyone would begin with some standard disclaimer ?

I don't care about the rating as long as characters are bleeding and we are able to decapitate enemies. If we can have corpses to bleed small pool of blood on the ground it would be even better. Battles with medieval weapons are bloody and after a battle the battlefield should be covered with corpses, blood and arrows and there should be weapons and shields lying all over the ground. That's the main point of PvP in Cyrodiil - after massive and intensive battle if you are lucky enough to survive you will http://24.media.tumblr.com/729ad570950595f714d366b302e534b9/tumblr_mlmfzdrHtI1qmg4b2o1_1280.jpg http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/233/c/8/after_the_battle_by_virago89-d5bwvzi.jpg http://www.1st-art-gallery.com/thumbnail/136084/1/After-The-Battle-Between-Prince-Igor-Svyatoslavich-Of-Kiev-And-The-Polovtsy,-1880.jpg.

I have played many games in the last 25 years.

Time has proven that that creators of mature games make more efforts to offer a believable and coherent world.

And I've been playing games for the last 21 years and I will say that is false. I don't know how many times I have to spell it out for you: There is no correlation between how believable a story world is and the rating of the game.

Well you did provoke it yourself!

Mature rating hmmm, not sure if that would make the community or game better!

While the OP has some...let's just say "communications issues," he does have a valid point.

We can all (well, most of us) agree that nudity in no way makes for an interesting or compelling game. Hell, nine times out of ten its just a gimmick that could easily be taken out of the game with no change whatsoever to the story. However, its the story that should take top priority for the game. Combat, crafting, all those things are just mechanics that can be tweaked, or even replaced, to improve a gameplay, but its the story that brings in a player and ultimately keeps him or her. And on this, an M rating would allow for a better chance at a good story.

Now, having said that, the devs shouldn't be aiming for an M rating; just write the story, and let the Ratings Board figure it out. But if the game is actively aiming for a T rating, then the writers are going to deliberately gimp themselves to ensure that they meet that rating. And as I've pointed out in a (much) earlier thread about this same topic, while a T rating doesn't mean you can't have a great and compelling story (say what you will about TOR, that game has definitely proved you can have a great story with a T rating), it does increase the likelihood that we have things like the classic WoW poop quests included in the game. Or worse, an over-reliance on Haris Pilton or Harrison Jones jokes. I'm not saying that those types of quests and NPCs will be in this game if it gets a T rating, but the chances of them happening are greater.

This is supposed to be a dark world, a dangerous world. Nasty things are happening around us, and nasty things are trying to kill us, or worse. I want that tone in this game, and I want the story to reflect this. Write the story as you think it should be written, Zenimax, and don't worry about what the rating will be. If it looks like its going to be a T rating, then that's what it will be. But if its looking like it'll be an M rating, then don't haul up on the reins to aim for that supposedly coveted T rating. You'll only hurt yourself in the end.

All it proves is that the developers and the players lack a proper imagination. If visual representation of hyper violence and six is required to make a world believable....that is truly sad.

Wouldn't matter at this point, the game is too far a long, a change either way wouldn't happen.

Yeah, exactly. Just by putting in a gratuitous amount of violence. six, and swear words doesn't instantly make it a more compelling world.

ZeniMax will make the game however they want it. If it ends up getting an M rating it's getting an M rating. If it gets a T it's a T. Maturity ratings on games has no affect on how believable a game actually is. So anyone who wants to keep saying that should stop, because it just isn't true.

I'd like my wife and daughter to play.

So I'ma have to say nix to the whole "let's make a nudity filled, debauched game with drunkenness and lechery around every corner". If you want that stuff (and who doesn't every now and then?) plan a trip to Vegas.
