And this will be no different. Storyline doesn't sell an MMO, mechanics, style, and PvP/PvE play will.
Still most games in the genre hassle us with repititive quests that form a story that is the same for everyone. TES:O sadly will be no different as it appears.
How will this be a good MMO? Will we get Skills- by this I mean weapon skills instead of running around slashing [censored] up like other TES'. This is an online game, therefor leveling should provide us with Skill points to be put into skills of our choice.
I dunno if I understood this correctly, are you saying TES's skill/level-system couldn't work in a MMO? In the eyes of manny fans of the series it's the superior system and especially if the real-time FPS-like Combat would have been adopted the skill-use based system imo would be a canon choice. I also disagree that it is a MUST to offer experience point based character progression with levels and skill choices. That would imply there actually realy exists a formula for a perfect MMO, which simply isn't true.
On top of melee skills, we need to also be able to do other things for more leisure play- Alchemy, Enchanting, and the others.
They're in single player, thus naturally they're expected to be in MMO aswell. Here lies part of the reason for the conclusion jumping. People especially here in these forums have certain expectations of what a TES MMO should be like. With a different combat mechanic (and it takes no big brains to see that with it a different leveling/skill system will come) already anounced there's a natural fear that other concepts that are responsible for the series' success so far might be abandoned aswell.
How will the Thief style be added..?
Indeed a problem. Especially PvP thievery would be tricky (though not unsolvable for sure) and thus we'll most likely not see it.
If it wants to fair well against other MMOs, it also needs other things like Fishing - Cooking (or use fish for Alchemy) AND Mining-Smithing.
Agreed.
It has a lot to live up to... And it needs to try to be better then other MMOs.. We'll see I guess
True aswell. And sticking to look, feel and gameplay mechanics of the single player games in my opinion would have been a better start as it sets the game apart from the rest in an instant, just look at tera, new mechanics = instant hype, in contrast look at SWTOR same old mechanics and they're already talking about server merges.
And generally to those in here saying we might see dramatic changes based on our feedback: Wake up. We'll see some balancing changes during beta, some visual polish here and there and that will be it. And you know what: it's even better this way. Adding features/content last minute just to appeal to audiences that not yet like your game ends in fiaskos. Just look at "space combat" in SWTOR, a last minute feature added on request of a certain part of the audience, that almost no one likes, not even those that asked for it.
