To Everyone Complaining about Weak Dragons

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 5:08 am

I see a lot of people complaining about how weak Dragons are, and how much stronger they should be. I tend to agree, but I think you are all missing something here. If Dragons are made immensely more powerful your entire game is going to turn into Skyrim the ghost province. Seriously, I already see a lot of people, not just guards dying to dragons in my game, some of them are named NPCs while they are not essential, I still hate seeing a named character die, knowing they will be gone from my game.

Basically I think Bethesda realized if they made dragons too strong, they would wipe out half the population of skyrim. So my point is I hope they do not make dragons stronger, although it would be nice fighting stronger dragons as the dragonborn, I do not relish the thought of playing the game in half populated towns across skyrim.

Considering that most of them arn't travelling through cities I don't see how that helps. Can't you just up the difficulty before going into the fight?

I said this in a thread yesterday:

People complain about the dragons, especially compared to mammoths and giants, but can giants and mammoths shoot magic out of their mouths? Can they fly? No, they can't do either.

Dragons are overall, the most well rounded enemy in the game, in my opinion. They can do damage with fire, ice, etc. They can do damage with their bites, and they wallop you with their tails. They can kite you while flying around and hitting you with their magic...

Dragons are fine. They are balanced for the game. Let's be real, we would all hate the dragons if they were any more powerful.

I was in Whiterun last night and a dragon landed on Breezehome and was attacking the city. It was cool. I don't see Giants or mammoths doing that...

Actually, Dragons grow in strength exponentially.
The first one is scripted, and is weak. The first wild one you meet is a challenge, but for a skilled player, no problem.
The next few are genuine bossfights.
And then, they become what they are supposed to be: Major "OH [censored]!" Moments and immensly intense fights.

1)Make Dragons harder. Encreasing their shouts arsenal should do the job...and maybe a cleave like attack for when they're surrounded.
2)Increase town guards.
3)Nerf LOLWILDANIMALS that keep one-twoshotting me so much

Skyrim is invaded by dragons, yet my Dragonborn has nightmares about bears everynight lol

I don't know about killing every NPC in the game, but I have already seen several "named" NPCs killed by Dragons. First was the wood cutting dude that you meet right after starting the main quest. I guess Beth wanted you to feel like you had to do something against the Dragon problem.

It worked for me, even though I still have a huge amount of quests to complete, I feel like i gotta beat the main quest line asap, because I am tired of seeing Dragons attacking towns everywhere I go, and killing off NPCs. I mean seriously, I haven killed 3 or 4 dragons in the same towns, and they come back again the next time I am there.

Another example - I went to kill some witches for a separate quest yesterday and was on my way to the cave, there were 2 dragons flying around on the way there, literally killing everything in sight. I counted 3 or 4 different people dead on the way to my destination due to the terrible duo.

I honestly don't have problems with either giants or dragons. Yes, giants are more powerful in upfront physical combat, but with my mage I just spam them both with knock-down fireballs until they die from it, and run like hell when my mana gets low (or use my altmer power). Giants are rather powerful in Skyrim, but their lack of range is a serious liability if you exploit it.

I like the challenge level so far, especially with Blood Dragons.

Although I feel a little bit like I'm cheating with Mehrunes' Razor.

The first dragon I fought at level 8 on Master killed my dual wielding light armor wearing character a couple of times. They hit hard and even with my fire resistance trait the fire hurt. Not sure if I could have killed it alone.

I think the people complaining are essentially just bragging. I'm sure once I'm all leveled and perked up I can knock around the weakest tier of dragon too, then I'll come here and brag in the guise of complaining about how easy they are.

I'm sure Elder and Ancient dragons are still an acceptable challenge for people who aren't abusing the stacking professions or letting other NPC's in the area do a lot of the fighting for them.

They ramp up in difficulty just fine the first few are a cake walk but later on the battles are 10 mins and feel great.

Now frost trolls on the other hand feel terrible and I think they need to be cut down...
I fear frost trolls on all of my characters.

Two dragons attacked Dawnstar at the same time while I was there doing a quest. It was a pretty intense moment. The dragons took out like half the guards, it was a beautiful and horrific site at the same time. But in the end the dragons fell and I came out with victory, but there were casualties..

I've killed a few dragons and yet, the last one I fought was a bit tough. Some Blood dragon far south of Whiterun.

I like the whole fight setup they have, with the music that starts up once the fight starts and just seeing the dragon drop to the ground. I was at low health once and the Dragon took me in its mouth and shook/threw me, killing me.

Mainly, I like just seeing them flying around and the 'threat' of combat they represent.

Oddly, I haven't had much trouble with Frost trolls. I ran into two of them early on on my way to High Hrothgar. Took them both out. One killed me, but on reload, different tactics, it barely touched me. Since then, I haven't had any troubles either, though I haven't run into many in a while, so perhaps they've "leveled" and are ready to whoop my ass... could be!

I love the dragons, though, I do not currently fear them. Dread Lords and whatnot... those I fear and prep for. Though in truth, I also prep for Dragons and go through a huge amount of healing potions typically. I guess I don't fear them because I am fairly good at anticipating what's next and they give you breaks by flying around. I definitely respect dragons though.

People kill a few early stage dragons surrounded by body and town guards and they think they are too easy?

1. If it chooses, the guards and companions can't even scratch it
2. Can't tell me a dragon has never killed you
3. You are the " Dragonborn" those scaly sods fear your awesome dragon killing ability. I mean, you have a dragons soul and have been born to kill dragons like a baws, pretty lame if your were the " Dragons[censored]"
4. Same as above, your not the Mammothborn or the Giantborn, Sabrecatborn etc.
5. The dragons get harder, and if your unlucky enough, you may even stumble across a dragon thats far too strong and catches you on tricky terrain

If you think the dragons are too easy, turn the hardness up and leave your companions at home, you find they get much more vicious and tend to hurt things a great deal more. Because when you run in to two of the sods on the hardest setting one fire, one ice and both as mean as hell, you will find yourself charr burned popsicle corpse.

It's not bragging. The first dragon is hard, later on, they're easy.

The answers simple imo. Let the weenie dragons attack the towns, and let the country dragons be uber.

People complain about Dragons?
Seriously?
What a shallow, hollow, empty lot, I say to them!

The Dragons on this game (notice the intentional capital D, please) are AWESOME!
They are the BEST characterization of a Dragon ever made in any RPG, because:
1. They fly
2. They hover in the air and attack
3. They bite, lift an entire person off the ground, and chop it (if you don't believe me walk up close to one while it is on land)
4. They have breath attacks
5. They fight multiple enemies in a fight
6. They perch above the ground attacking from safety (if you have not seen this, you have not played long enough and stop complaining)
7. They are tough to kill

And I've only played 16 hours of game play, so I am sure I will encounter more.

Dragon Age 2 dragons didn't even walk or fly as fluidly as the ones here. No other game has brought Dragons to life like this one, so Bethesda: THANK YOU.
You have done a great job, and made my Dragon-hunting fantasies come almost true. :-)

Your first idea seems like a really good one to me. If dragons had a larger pool of shouts to utilize, it would give them a bit of extra power to make them the feared dragons of legend, and it would make sense, seeing as the dragons speak the dragon language. Using words of power should be little harder for them than speaking.

I've fought easy dragons and hard dragons, in various order. I think they are fine as they are.
I did have a kinda funny thing happen with adragon I fought last night. He was brutal. I was drinking health potions like crazy and hardly hurting him. His flying attacks and overall tactics were amazing. Then, he got bored with me, or so it seems, and flew off, across a stream and started attacking other things I couldnt see. So I charged over to the area where he was and started to fight him some more. He would keep flying up and about, swooping down, blasting fire, landing, biting, etc...just none of it aimed at me. It made killing him very easy. Once he was dead I was able to look around the area to find out what he thought was so dangerous that he could ignore me and fight them and, to my insult, it was mudcrabs, lol. He fried up about 6 of them. Talk about insulting my manhood, lol.

I came out of whiterun yesterday to find a dragon dead, laying there on the ground. Still with scales and all. Guards took him out. I saw no other bodies in the area. Oh and the carcass was right next to the gate.

Level 52 and killed 17 dragons. All way to easy.
Wait for em to land, use relentless breath or whatever it was called, attack with strong weapon.

9 out of 10 times thats enough to get any dragon to meet its maker.
They have yet to be a challenge for me.
