Exciting real time combat

yeah, but your trying to make it sound like its traditional mmo combat, they say its based on what works in that genre.
you are completely ignoring what i said so you dont sound like an idiot.
yes, there is a hotbar.
yes, its not real time.
no, its not the same combat as tes, but not your typical mmo crap either.
the only other mmo that this reminds me of is guild wars 2.

"Many qualities responsible for forging the series' success - weighty combat, richly interactive environments, a world reactive to player's actions - are not easily translated to the MMO formula." "Unfortunately, the constraints inherent to online gaming preclude some designs that put Elder Scrolls on the map." "The reality of network latency and massively-multiplayer games prevents the Elder Scrolls Online from following the real-time combat model that has driven the series since its inception." "Making player housing work the way fans expect is too hard to implement in an MMO." Are we reading the same article?

Just bad programmers :-(

Only time will tell I guess. But this sounds like every other MMO to me. They always advertise their 'brand new combat system' as being revolutionary to MMOs by adding new approaches to the basic formula. Instead, it plays just like WoW with a few added touches. I fell for that hype with Aion, I won't fall for it again with TES Online.

i encourage you to read the article more, your not even at the part where they talk about combat.
read under the bold black text that says "an elderscrolls twist on mmo combat"
then go read about guild wars 2 combat.

they talk about the combat for 3 pages people. its not like wow, there is a break from the holy trinity because of the active blocking and stamina mechanics, being able to actively interupt moves, fewer moves on the hotbar with each move having more weight and significance. the only thing missing is dodging imo, and this is a system still being refined, we have a year, possibly less if you get in the beta.

Yeah but the world won't be sandboxed anymore and objects won't be placeable judging by the lame excuses there coming up with.

I love some of the, mostly, uninformed "This is the end of the entire franchise!" negativity I've been seeing on the forums.

It's only been one day and all, but just maybe wait until you see videos and more information before bashing everything to do with Zenimax/Bethesda and the Elder Scrolls series? Too hard, I guess

From what we've seen on these forums over the years, it isn't hard, it's outright impossible.

As far as the combat goes, we know squat except what's in the leaked article, i.e. there are abilities, there's a hotbar, there are attacks, parrying, interruption and various combos, and then there's some sort of "finesse" gauge that powers up a super-move. And that's about it. We don't know whether it's fast-paced or moderate. We don't know whether it's free-form or semi-structured. We don't know anything until we've actually seen or tried it.
