Fall Food

Post » Fri Oct 05, 2012 6:20 pm

Fall is upon us! What foods are you looking forward too? Octoberfest brews? Pumpkin latte? Pumpkin cheesecake? Spaghetti squash with fresh tomato sauce?

Me I love em all but what I really love is eggnog spiked with Sailor Jerry Rum.

What's a fall?
In America it's another word for Autumn. That meaning used to be common elsewhere in the world, but it died out somehow.

OT: I'm mostly just looking forward to Thanksgiving in a month or two. Turkey and apple pie, yum.

How peculiar. Sadly don't think I eat any autumn specific foods. Chesnuts at a push but not for many many years.

Anything and everything we gain from our final harvest, which just happened. The weather just erratically took a turn towards cold as [censored].

Last night, I made basil fried rice using freshly harvested Thai basil, jalapeno, and Thai chilies. It might not be what comes to mind with Fall, but it was absolutely lovely.

mmm canadian thanksgiving is this weekend so i'm looking forward to my 2 turkey dinners!

pumpkin seeds are also a must this time of year. baked with a secret blend of spices to pack just enough kick!
a local brewery makes a mean pumpkin ale (granville island brewing) that i usually get a few bottles of

slow cooker stews and homemade soups will start to be the norm again too.
squashes are almost ready to be yanked from the garden too!

I've never understood why Thanksgiving is a purely American tradition, it's the most awesome holiday of the year.

There are other countries that celebrates Thanksgiving too, but to be honest I'm not very familiar with the tradition. I think we've got Thanksgiving here as well (h?sttakkefest), but from what I've read it's pretty religious stuff, and I don't think many does it anymore.

Thanks for the history lesson. Practically speaking, anyone could participate in Thanksgiving. It's a pretty simple holiday.

EDIT: Whoops, mega misread your post. Disregard all that...

They should rename Thanksgiving to "Eat Lots of Turkey Day". That's what it is anyway.

I'd say I'm looking forward to roasted pumpkin seeds, but it's been years since I had any. Those were always the best part of October.
