Fallout 3 & New Vegas were more fun

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 11:24 am

wait is there actually going to be another fallout?

i heard that another fallout will not happen because some game developer under bethesda went bust? i cant remember it all can someone clarify this for me?

First I've heard of it. I thought Bethesda now owned the franchise outright. You could be thinking of the MMO which is now not going to happen. Like that's any loss.

Hmm, I have to agree with the OP. I do like Skyrim and am frequently impressed with the sense of being in a fantastical world, but the lack of scary environments or any real sense of danger adds a level of blandness to it that makes it less fun to play.

The original Fallout games were built by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interplay_Entertainment, who has sold the rights to the franchise to Bethesda and whose game developers have found other employment, e.g. at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsidian_Entertainment (who made Fallout New Vegas) and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InXile (who are making Wasteland 2). Bethesda owns the rights to the Fallout franchise, and I would be surprised if they are not at least in early pre-production of Fallout 4.

It's really nice of you guys to be so dissaproving of him! Yes, he should just leave because some of the game is bad, he should just play OTHER GAMES! He never said he hated it, but rather that it was not as good as Fallout 3 and New Vegas (which I agree with, mostly).

New Vegas is superior in every way to Fallout 3.

Agree. Fallout 3 was not afraid to challenge the player. Skyrim is so easy its boring. Not to mention predictable (oh I collect your amulet from a dungeon do I? I take it you give me a powerful weapon if I do?) Skyrim took no risks. Skooma could of been something awesome, but was nought but a minor stamina potion. A ridiculous amount of spells/skills were removed for no reason at all. Fallout 3 had charm and charisma, but Skyrim is just riding the Elder Scrolls name without showing any innovation.

i couldn't have said it better myself

I've always preferred Fallout to TES, I just prefer post-apocalyptic games to fantasy.

That's because NV is FO3 with mods... ;)

Wow. Your the millionth person to say that. I surprised when you didn't use the "Skyrim is a mile wide and an inch deep" line. Please go to Skyrim general discussion. You won't even have to start a thread, there are probably a thousand threads, just like this one, where you can repeat what has been said so many times it's almost disgusting. Atleast use a synonym for shallow, because every complaint I read about Skyrim has the word shallow in it. Ughhhhh.

But yes, I find NV more of a variety in dialogue, weapons/armor and consequences and choices. It's the first game to have the most lines of dialogue in the world.

I play Skyrim when I feel like exploring caves and dungeons.

I completely agree with F03 being better than Skyrim. New Vegas I'm not so sure. It was extremely buggy from what I remember.

New Vegas Ultimate Edition is great. Most bugs/glitches are removed. But NV is more of an RPG than Fallout 3. Fallout 3 was more about exploring though.

I love RPGs it's just that F0NV had this point of no return ending that annoyed me. It also convinced me to not buy the DLC.

Yea some people didn't like that. But think about it, NV is all about story, and if the story continued after all the major changes that happen at the end of NV, it would mess up everything. Cause the game is based on changes with the factions.

I somewhat prefer Fallout New Vegas, but Fallout 3 is just "funner", if you know what I mean. There's more exploration, it's in D.C, I love the atmosphere, the enemies, and of course the quests, but the writing is not as good.

It still would have been nice to be a part of the aftermath of the endings.

I prefer Fallout 3 to New Vegas but there are definitely some things they could learn from each other. If Fallout 4 has Skyrim's engine and New Vegas's writing, it'll be amazing.

Who brought Skyrim Gen in here?

Not that I don't agree, but I believe that anything which starts there should stay there.

I wholeheartedly agree. But then again I'm not really into the fantasy stuff so I might be a bit biased.

Yep, I agree. Skyrim gen is full of a bunch of forum users repeating what they hear from other complainers. But hey, it seems more creative to bring all excessive negativity here. Because it's already consumed Skyrim general discussion.

Yeah, no argument here. I have about 70 hours invested in New Vegas having started a fresh run and I still have some ground to cover. I was done with Skyrim in about 30...nothing to really fill your time in between repetitive quests.

Skyrim has the potential to be a cracking game though. When the mod community starts bringing out the big guns we'll have a game worth investing in.

Out of Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, the only one I've beaten is Fallout 3. I just felt Skyrim was too far removed from what I liked about the previous Titles. Fallout New Vegas was a lot of fun but as was stated previously is just Fallout 3 with mods. I'll go back and beat both of the games still, I just need a break from them. I'll beat Skyrim before FNV though.

So Fallout 3 with mods is better then Fallout 3 though. So why not just play New Vegas. Also, it's Fallout 3 with mods, better writing, better dialogue, better characters.

So far, I'm enjoying New Vegas far more than Skyrim and well... any Elder Scrolls game, really.
If the streamlining of the Elder Scrolls continues, consider me a Fallout fan (unless, of course, Fallout 4 is Skyrim with guns...).

Because I've logged enough hours into Fallout 3 the experience is not mind blowing new. I played FNV for around 30 hours. I didn't like some of the things Obsidian added. The ammunition creation is just dumb. It actually reminded me of KotOR 2 when you were able to break stuff down. I find it pointless and unnecessary. As for your first sentence, that is purely subjective and I felt New Vegas lacked in many areas that Fallout 3 did not.
