Fallout 3 & New Vegas were more fun

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 9:15 pm

I thought Fallout was more fun than Skyrim. There was much more creativity, color, fun, humor, interesting missions, unexpected surprises, etc. Skyrim is so serious and bland. It also lacks depth. Skyrim is a very big world but all the features are very shallow and not developed as much as they should've been.

Agree.

Fallout 3 was not afraid to challenge the player. Skyrim is so easy its boring. Not to mention predictable (oh I collect your amulet from a dungeon do I? I take it you give me a powerful weapon if I do?) Skyrim took no risks. Skooma could of been something awesome, but was nought but a minor stamina potion. A ridiculous amount of spells/skills were removed for no reason at all. Fallout 3 had charm and charisma, but Skyrim is just riding the Elder Scrolls name without showing any innovation.

Skyrim is more enjoyable than its predecessors. However, it is a little disheartening to see the continuous removal of RPG elements from Elder Scrolls. It makes you wonder where, if at all, they will draw the line. I am very apprehensive about how Fallout 4 will turn out.

I find Skyrim to be more enjoyable than FO3 and NV, but if you prefer the latest FO games to Skyrim it is fine with me.

well the mantra at bethesda according to ome of the developers is easier is better, accessible equals brilliance. The easier they can make all pc users of whichever talents or spells be able to pass or complete something, the better.

Imagine fallout without the permanent stats and that every speech check could be passed by anyone with anu skill lr setup high enough and I think thats what fallout 4 will look like......shudder....

I'm dreading it. I'm convinced it's going to make me want to cry.

But it'll probably have dual wielded pistols and maybe even another giant robot.

It goes without saying it will have children more irritating than ever before!!!!!

Indeed, and non degrading weapons, and regenerating health, and 1-hit KO VATS shots, and uber powerful weapons half an hour into the game, and NPC's running up to you and giving you free stuff. It is inevitable! The survival element will be completely stripped out. Cant go making it too tough for the 12 year olds can we?

I agree that dumbing things down is great from a marketing and sales standpoint because things that are dumbed down tend to do very well in sales. But in the long run it makes for a less interesting game for me and anyone who likes depth and challenge.

Cannot agree.

Never finished FO3. It was an interesting game, but I didn't like the mechanics of it, and I prefer the fantasy setting. As a game, I thought FO3 could have used a lot more work, and it reminded me a lot of Oblivion (same engine, probably?), which I greatly disliked.

Why do people insist on posting these threads? So you think Fallout is the pinnacle of brilliance? Good for you, Think TES is the pinnacle of brilliance? Good for you. CD isn't for rustling other people's jimmies. Go do that somewhere else so we can argue about other things. :stare:

Agree, atleast with New Vegas. Skyrim bored me rather fast, but so did Fallout 3. I still enjoyed Skyrim, for the first 70 hours it was gold, but then it lost its glamour. Fallout 3 on the otherhand, made Fallout dungeon crawling, and TESsified it, and the writing, ugh.

I do agree, both bethesda games but comparing the two is apples and oranges. Their both open world, but style and lore totally different. Not fair Assessment.

Fallout 2 was better than Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Oblivion was better than Skyrim. Morrowind was better than Oblivion. Daggerfall was better than Morrowind.

.. hey, I see a pattern!

I enjoyed all three, but in retrospect New Vegas made the biggest impression on me. The intricate factions, and focus on choices, consequences and different paths to victory, did it for me. Skyrim had some of that, but it felt like more of an afterthought, whereas in New Vegas the whole game was designed around the interplay between factions.

My http://emotibot.net/pix/1694.jpgto the OP. :P

Both Fallout 3/NV and Skyrim are great games in their own ways, it all comes down to personal preference. I myself enjoyed them all equally (well except for FNV which I accidentaly broke and never got to play it through).

What's horrible is that all the things you're talking about are realistic possibilities. But they really have no excuse to not have hardcoe mode again. Though I'd say it's at best 50/50 whether they will.

There's always Wasteland 2 to think about...
