So far in MP clearly cheaters are into this already!

I think BFG edition uses Rage's network code. Damn :/
Well I will get the BFG edition at some point, and then I can try a match. Of course by then you might have gotten some major skill, lol, meanwhile I only play Doom3 online once in a while now. I've been playing alot of Killing Floor lately...

The BFG edition uses idTech 5 net code/ui code/thread setup and sound code.

And this is rather strange, the Rage multiplayer code has been amazing in my experience, I never lagged. Then again, I guess it's because they are dedicated servers.
But yeah, they need to kick up some dedicated servers, at least for some time, they really should, it would be cool I mean. I don't think they will, since this game is still focused on single player, but it would be a cool hope though.

Dedicated servers are going away, the problems you guys are having are probably because whoever is hosting your game has a crappy connection :/.

. WallHacks

Don't play with people you don't know :/.

But, are these also compatible with the BFG edition? If so, that would be great.
No. BFG edition uses the Rage networking code, resource management and matchmaking system.

Allrighty then, I'll get my BFG edition sometime. No one ever plays olde' 2004 Doom3 on multiplayer anymore, the server list is huge and they're always 0 players. It's rare to get even two full servers.

Unlikey. If I ever pick the code up again (not touched it at all in two years) it would be to improve the standard edition version. I really don't have the time these days though.

Any chance that an editor for this bfg version will come to light?
i would really like to have the ability to make maps myself, especially multiplayer ones, i think this game could thrive from such input from the community, what i think bfg needs..
. dedicated servers
. a way to choose what server you join like "homefront"'s multiplayer.
. character customization to make your online player model look basically any way you can think of. lots of differnt armour choices etc.
. level editor to make fully playable Singleplayer & Multiplayer maps.
. And no cap on the amount of user made maps for multiplayer, this would keep multiplayer very fresh.
- So like give the players the option of choosing the regular maps, or user made maps that would be broken off into various sets such as "earth based maps" "space based maps" etc.

I heard there's an original doom 3 editor so it couldn't be that hard to impliment into the BFG edition could it?

It could, because BFG runs off a hybrid code, tech4 and tech5, so it's not just making tech4 code for it, nor tech5.

Not much of a technical wizz or anything myself, i just figure that if they are sitting there making the game, improving it and such that they are using this "editor" themselves, if they can make it work for the cunsumers properly like bethesda's "Creation kit" then that'll be cool.

True, they are using "tools," that is, some sort of code that could probably be compiled.

Well idk, but if they do release the tools that will be awesome. I seriously want them to release an editor, because I want to make stuff for the VR.

The basic map format itself is the same as the original PC release, so any map created for that should be capable of being used with BFG edition. The problem at the moment is there is little understanding on how to compile the maps into the new runtime formats and build the required 'resources' files.

sounds good.
looking at some documentation and images on the doom 3 editor, it looked very complicated, for some reason more so than duke nukem 3d.. but heck, thats never stopped me before, if i can get it and make levels for bfg i'll do it, im getting quiet good using the creation kit right now. its just about having patience, and the time to invest in making it happen. :)

Well the Doom3 editor is very simple to use, not complex at all, as far as level design
I want to make some multiplayer maps too. I've wanted to make singleplayer maps before, but I can't commit to making something that takes that long, you know? Well I mean I don't feel like it, I always give myself too high of a goal

Edit: Well I just got an idea. I'm gonna start some multiplayer maps  Well just one for now, since I don't even know if they'll run on BFG for sure

The map format hasn't changed, you'll be fine.

Cool, thanks!

Is there a way I can "imitate" Doom3 BFG's lighting? I'd want my maps to look the same for that one and normal Doom3. Mostly since I will be using the normal D3 editor (for now), I want a similar lighting so I get very similar lighting when finally in the BFG edition.

Edit: I know of r_lightscale, but when I set it to 2 it's still not bright enough, 3 seems right. But I don't know what the real good number would be to get a similar lighting to BFG's.

Buy the original doom 3, which has the editor. Or download the source code from GitHub and build it yourself, although for that you'd need a professional version of Microsoft Visual C++, which I'm guessing you don't have.

That said, you still can't run custom maps yet with the bfg edition as the build process for the maps doesn't seem to be available from the console.

Again, I doubt this.

There ARE people so good they seem unhuman to people of lower skill, and it's actually easy to anticipate where your opponent will run to once he's out of the room, and then anticipate if they'll run back. Also there is a whole art of causing "fear" and making people think you know where they are.
Really, I get the feeling you would think I'm a hacker as well, and I'm not even a veteran, but I can indeed stand my ground against them, sometimes very well, loosing by not so many kills.

And yes, it IS possibie to die in a good, straight shot when you have 200 health. This happened to me when I was playing in a LAN match here at home, so no hacking was involved. Max armor is sometimes more important than max health, and even better is having both.

Unfortunately I have non-steam Doom3, I don't think we can be in the same servers. If I had this one I'd gladly challenge you, lol. But yeah, don't think people are hacking. Yes I know lots of games are being hacked, especially combat arms, that game is hacked to hell. But Doom3 has never attracted enough people to multiplayer to make someone want to hack.

There are tons of tricks to getting good at the game, and intimidating as well, making your opponents run. Like I said, I only have the original, non-steam Doom3. If you had that I could show you some neat stuff.
I know saying stuff like, "This" is pointless in this case, so I won't say that. I strangely agree with this post, though. I don't play online multiplayer much due to how loudly people speak into their mics in some cases and the fact that I always feel like I am just going to be the horrid player the minute the match starts. I'm half decent at Tekken 6, but am horrid at shooters, especially when playing them in multiplayer with people online.

Some players really will just seem so good their skill at the game can make them seem like cheaters. This is a game that first came out in 2004, so many of the players have already played so much of it that they are bound to get really good at the game. Even Call of Duty games have players who are just inhuman in how good they are. I'm not sure how to spot cheaters in non-MMORPG games. The method of sending typed messages to some random Runescape player and seeing if they say a single word at all, for example, is something you can't do in shooters normally. I'm only using Runescape as an example of a classic way to spot MMORPG cheaters because that's where I saw them the most when I played MMORPGs.

well i dont have the professional c++, ive some got some c++ thing on my computer, but dont know what it does. And as for getting doom 3 original, i havent seen that in stores. and i dont have a credit card to get one from eBay. so i'll just have to wait til they possibly setup this bfg edition's editor.. What they should do i'd say is make it like the Creation Kit. give doom 3 bfg a "workshop" and let people download the editor direct from steam. thats if their going to hand it out for bfg version at all.
