FCOM in Skyrim in future?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 4:27 am

Anyone know if FCOM (MMM, OOO, Francesco, Warcry, Armamentarium) is planned for skyrim in future? I know this project will delay for months but this game with a FCOM stable version in .bsa format, vibrant textures, Midas magic, LOD distant mod and oficial-unnoficial bugfixes will be the most epic and infinite game ever in history!

I'd say de-scaling all the dungeons is probably the most important step towards this. We could use more weapon and creature variety as well.

The LOD looks great with the proper INI tweaks, I don't see the point in enhancing that particularly.

Yeah LOD looks great now but also a LOD mod for increase visual distance without performance hit and more detail will be great too.

Depends on what mods decide to dot the Skyrim landscape. I doubt we'll have another OOO, as Oscuro is busy at Obsidian, Francesco has pretty much left the modding scene last I heard, and I'm not sure about Martigen.

There will of course be other overhaul mods, such as Arwen's, the newly announced BORG, and maybe even the FWE/PN guys may cook something up (unless swords and dragons aren't their forte), but whether or not those will be easily mergeable is still unanswered.

We'll just have to wait and see. :liplick:

You'll just have to wait and see what pops up, I'd love to see another MMM, but I'm pretty sure Martigen has moved on.

Thinking back to when F3 first came out, all the mods which are now overhaul mods started off fairly small, and grew as people got involved and started adding more stuff that they wanted. Don't hold out for a port of FCOM, I'm betting that we'll see a new generation of overhauls for Skyrim.

I did not know that Oscuro was hired at Obsidian that is really neat. I would think that after 5+ years of support for their mods many of these talented people would be a bit worn out or have moved on to things that do not permit them with the required time. The have provided an excellent standard and I am excited to see what talent steps up and creates the next great mods. With the amount of content that is sure to be created for Skyrim I certainly see a large cohesive overhaul sometime down the road. It most certainly will not be right away but someday, maybe in the next 2-3 years.

I'm around, but Hunter2121 hit it pretty squarely on the head. You get worn out and, speaking just for me, as you get older and the more responsibility you take on, you just have less free time for projects like modding.

I told myself I wouldn't mod Skyrim. I never actually finished Oblivion, and I never even got far into Fallout 3, because modding becomes so time consuming -- as Hunter2121 implied, it can take years. MMM for Oblivion was two full years of my free time, and I just can't do that anymore (not unless it was my job to do it, in which case it fufills my working time). But, after my first run through the game tonight, I was already thinking about things I would like to change... (for one, ever noticed how creatures running through rivers aren't slowed down by the water? I'm sure we can fix that pretty easy)

But anyway, I don't think I'd do a project like MMM again. However, I might be happy to be involved with others, and work piecemeal on a project.

Good to see your around and enjoying Skyrim Martigen. I think the beauty of these overhaul mods is that they combine the work of the mods author with the works of dozens of other smaller mods. Essentially FCOM not only combined Frans, Cobl, OOO and MMM but hundreds of other mods. This is because each mod is a compilation in and off itself. I may be wrong here but Frans actually combined many of the best items mods with his own work to create his mod. Just because some of the talent is worn out does not mean there will be no more exceptional mods, just different authors with new, great ideas.

@ Martigen. I hope you find the time to enjoy the game (you've certainly earned it ), it is the game most worthy of your full attention and if you want to contribute to the modding community I am confident someone will offer you a cushy, consulting gig  .

Lastly to everyone who finds this thread we must remember that after the first few months these games take on a life of their own. As the modding community becomes established great mods will emerge, modders will push the limits of what the game can do, ideas will fail and ideas will succeed. Essentially the modding community allows for a limitless development cycle that is limited only by the creative minds of its members. We are in the first week of the release and already I see tremendous promise for Skyrims future and am very excited to be at the beginning of what is sure to be an incredible journey.

Frankly, I would hope the modders take the time to actually enjoy playing the game before feeling obliged to hop right in with modding Skyrim; the game is awesome already and I hope they take the time to enjoy it like the rest of us. The game has only only been out about 4 days and already the forum is swamped with requests for mods...I love mods as much as the next guy and can't wait to see what the community comes up with, but I'm sure we'll be playing this one for years to come; there's really no rush to start pumping things out en mass (heck, the CK isn't even out yet!), particularly the big mods. I do enjoy seeing what's coming out so far though.

Level scaling is already excellent, monster variety is pretty decent - honestly, the game feels like it came with Francesco's preinstalled. There's even variety in armors in the same class (3 different fur armors, several steel/leather, etc etc). Models, animations and design is pretty good.

The only thing that really "needs" a major overhaul is the textures, otherwise Skyrim really doesn't "need" mods at all. Francesco's/OOO is simply not necessary like it was in Oblivion.

See thats whats great. Skyrim provides such a great experience already, we can now raise the bar even further. Who would have thought that a fully modded Oblivion would turn out the way it did? Just imagine what Skyrim can do with the same tlc. Yes that is tender love and care.

Francesco has pretty much left the modding scene last I heard,.

I'm here, checking the latest Elders Scrolls like all of you (with a new account since the old one got deleted for inactivity)

For what concerns modding, currently I'm maintaining a project for a another game, a tiny project compared to what I did for Oblivion, something that doesn't svck several hours a day.

Modding Skyrim... at this point I'm not sure I want to do that, my Oblivion mod svcked ALL my spare time for almost two years.... I'm quite sure that if I open the Creation Kit another single time the BEAST would grow in me once again
There's at least a small part of me having the desire to unleash the BEAST... but the other part of me knows it's not a very good idea.

That said... even if I decided to mod the new Elders Scrolls, that wouldn't be before having played Skyrim for sometime, to build a good mod you need to know every bit of the game, let's give vanilla Skyrim a chance before even thinking about overhauling it.

That is a very nice compliment, thank you.

Happy to see you around Mart, good old days those of the endless Oblivion modding nights, I guess we are too old for that now... but who knows

All too true modding take time sometimes years off your life for a large project..

I have noticed creatures running at same speed on land / versus in water..But now that you mention it..Next time I will chase a elk into a river and see what happens..

And I started a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1261525-wipbetarelz-skyrim-creatures-project

I completely agree. Skyrim is the first game in a long time where I haven't been looking for gameplay mods at all. The only gameplay related thing I'd really like to see is a way to undo perk choices. I put a couple points into some things that I've decided not to focus on, and would rather put those to use in improving my enchanting and blocking.

I may be interested in doing some modding for Sky Rim; focus on adding item and monster verity and improving AI and enemy behavior. We'll see. I never modded Oblivion but I don't create the Hell Unleashed mod for Diablo 2. Sky Rim is great but lacking on the enemy encounters, refined difficulty, items and combat as all Bathesda's open RPG's. Seems a new engine did not benefit those areas sadly.

I'd kill for FCOM for Skyrim. OOO/FCOM just took Oblivion to a completely different level - made me feel like a small and weak man in a big, dangerous, mysterious world with strong enemies and prizes around every corner. Frankly, that's one of the things that's kept me from getting Skyrim (as well as the fact that it unlocks later over here) - will I be able to compare it favourably to FCOM Oblivion?

I debated that as well; waiting for mods and updates as I did with Oblivion. I think I am just going to do the guild quest lines and the main quest lines and replay the game when dlc's and mods take shape... Sky Rim is an amazing game but it does absolutely nothing to evolve the encounter/enemy/difficulty system that has always been lackluster in both Fallout and Oblivion.

well the HQ texture mod is already started http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1271620-aageons-hq-texture-pack-wip/ so someone will just have to compile all the good mods and test for compatibility and then make an installer and it will be like fcom or ooo

something definetly has to be done about level scaling, bandits and thiefs are already starting to appear wearing the same armor as me, and people seem to be psychic again in this game, although not as bad as the last.

also if you level up using thievery, enchanting or smithing you will get slaughtered because of the level scaling and lack of combat skills, and if you just concentrate on armor and weapons the game is a cakewalk, definetly needs rebalancing and the level scaling axed
