Features From MMO's you would like in TESO

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 11:45 pm

So I was thinking what features do you want from other mmo's in TESO , even if it's something tiny.
I played runescape , LOTRO and yes the dreaded WoW .

Runescape
  • Public speaking suspension and eventually ban for people who constantly spam obsceneties and advertising
LOTRO
  • Visual debuffs ( think they are in anyway ) what I mean is you get a visual effect for a debuff rather than a picture of a debuff ,
  • e.g. LOTRO if a spider shot at you with webs you could see the webs attached to your feet and stretching to your hands and face and if you were attacked by a wolf you actually limped

WOW
  • nothing :D

WOW
  • nothing

LOL. Definitely agree with this last one, and I would like to add:

DAOC:
  • As much as humanly possible (including guild emblems and the same guild alliance system,)

I greatly agree with visual effects on buffs/debuffs. If I'm taking bleeding damage, I'd like to bleed. If I'm cursed, I'd like at least some kind of faint aura.

One thing I actually would like to see from vanilla WoW that it later screwed up is the waypoint travel. I hate instant travel, and would much rather see myself going across the countryside. This is also an important part to gameplay as well. When you're forced to experience the world itself, the world becomes important to you, and you develop a reason to fight and adventure. I believe it's WoW's inclusion of far too much streamlined content (more teleportation, instant dungeons) has made the content a meaningless chore than a fun experience. Whereas once, doing a dungeon was an exciting break from monotony, now it has become monotony. Whereas questing once brought factions against each other and developed factionalism among players, now there is little meaning to the gameplay.

The more accessible and streamlined the world is, the less real it is.

LOTRO
Ability to configure your appearance so even if you wear the same armour as others it does not look that way
Instanced housing villages (the entire village is an instance)
Regular events and festivals
Musical instruments where you can actually play a real song (LOTRO really wins at this)

UO
Build your own home from the ground up

SWTOR
Actions & decisions dictate whether you have good / evil traits
Voiced quests and NPCs although AOC did this first in Tortage (first 20 levels)

Darkfall
Skills development across the board
PvE combat

DAOC
RvR (which looks like we will have anyway)

EQ2
Variety of stuff to buy or make for our houses

WOW
Never played it so don't have a clue

I have not mentioned crafting as no game has quite got it right although some did a decent job. Horizons was good and SWTOR wasn't bad

A sort of immigration test (only for roleplaying servers, though) where people have to be evaluated based on questions regarding grammar, lore and common roleplaying sense.

What?

Here's something I DON'T want, based on other MMOs...

I never ever EVER want Zenimax to get in bed with EA in any way, shape or form. &!%@ EA.

1) Real-time First-person combat where all abilities (melee and ranged) must be aimed and used manually and you can see your hands from this view: Mortal Online, Meridian 59, Darkfall (mostly) - incidentally, feature-wise this is my only deal-breaker

2) Skills+Attributes progression (no levels, no classes) with caps on both (so the characters can't be masters of all skills): Mortal Online

3) The ability to be a neutral party in a world of faction warfare: SWG

4) Robust, non-instanced player housing and city-building system: SWG, Vanguard, Wurm, Xsyon

5) Player factions that can choose to side with lore-based factions or remain neutral, may war with one another, etc.: Mortal Online, Darkfall (sort-of)

6) Deep and varied crafting system that allows players to make crafting central to their experience: SWG, Mortal Online

7) FFA PvP and full-loot system with a well-implemented crime and punishment system: EVE, Mortal Online

8) Territory control system that covers the entire game-world: Mortal Online, Planetside

9) Fully interactive naval combat: Darkfall

10) Robust and deep taming, breeding and mount system allowing you to control and ride almost any creature in the game: SWG, Mortal Online

11) Truly unique monsters that only appear once, ravage the land, are incredibly hard to kill and give huge rewards when taken down. Would require a huge amount of coordinated players to kill: Mortal Online

12) Contextual real-time travel systems (no fast-travel): WoW (oh god!) and a bazillion other MMORPGs

13) Incredibly deep character customization system like seen in SP TES games: EVE Online

14) Seamless world with little or no instancing or load screens where any player can go anywhere: Darkfall, Mortal Online

15) Mounted combat (anything you can do on the ground, you can do on a mount): Mortal Online

Sorry I asked so much of your 300 million dollar budget and 250 person team, Zenimax.

SWG
-Player-driven economy
-Social activities/features
-Points of interest

GW
-Guild capes, emblems, halls
-Dynamic friend list that is universal across all characters (don't have to make a new friend's list with each character)

Darkfall
-Massive and unique environments to explore

SWTOR
-Full VO quest lines (the less text the better)
-Variety of choices that have diverging outcomes
-Exciting combat animations

@reymas if most of your points exist in a game already that you always seem to vouch for, you should probably stick with that game since it seems to be your dream mmo, just a suggestion but whatever.

Dcuo character styles(being able to wear any armor and have it look like any armor you have worn before)

Lineage 2 clan system(emblems and what not)

Oblivian classes would be cool by the ways, I really wanna play something like a warrior priest from warhammer. Or some kind of a support class that can get in the heat of it and still deal decent damage.

You seem dedicated in wanting a game that is obviously shaping to be what you don't want. I was just trying to save you time and heart ache cause well, to put it simply teso is gonna be teso.

Most games don't have everything you want(not you but as in the players), you just play games cause you like what the majority of it brings. A company is gonna wanna appease a player but they have a vision in mind and will only be able to make players happy within those parameters. If its not what you want then the best bet would be to find what you want in the sea of endless games we have, in your case it seems to be mortal online.

More on topic I really hope a guild can claim a keep, having a banner hanging over the castle wall declaring you the victors, that seems pretty awesome.

Excellent arguing skills. I agree with Reymas, with 300 million budget and a large team, such features could have been implemented, unless the team lacks overall skill as developers to do so. They just decided to go where the fence is the lowest. The most risk free path available; Do extremely similar product to everything else and brand it with your brand, and hope it attracts the market.

Beth vs. FallOut Online case is one place at least. In the court it was stated (as irrelevant point blabla lawyer [censored]) that Beth franchise MMO with 300 million budget is coming out (and that was TES).

Quite possibly, but if he is fan of the franchise. Cannot he attempt to bring his own likes to the table? Its more than likely that none of them will be implemented, but cannot he voice his opinion? What I hate about all you carebear-like folk is that you assault every single idea that promotes freedom in an RPG with the risk of causing possibly a little grievous behavior (Humans are what they are, if they have the chance to slay you in an MMORPG, they will, if you don't like it, why play MMOs?), and assault the one attempting to voice his opinion like no tomorrow. Instead, argue why his suggestions are not valid, so you won't look like an jester.

Reymas has some radical ideas, such as full loot, which most will never agree to, but he has a lot of valid points regarding the freedom of gameplay and the open world concept. TES brand is all about the Open World, hell, its even classified as "Open World RPG". Then the franchise gets an MMO, which is a themepark grindfest rollercoaster ride? Cannot TES fans raise their own concerns regarding the [censored] going on in here?

Man, i played WoW and I cannot agree more. The game should let you explore the world, not instant teleport for everything... I think if they can reduce more that teleportation thing, rarely u use teleport for something, i think it could be better. If they dont implement taxis on the game, then it could be even better, Neither fly mounts, thats screwd up all pvp world in WoW, dont let that happen on TESO :)

What they could implement is something like GTA. When u die u apper in front of the hospital, in TESO they could implement doctors in all the citys, villages and some walking in the roads, when u die u appear in front of the doctor near of corpse. And a option like appear in 4story/Meting 2, that u can ress in the middle of some city near you. But i dont know if that are good ideas. But thats only to avoid camping...

Let's not start with care bear this and noob that it's pretty unnecessary. I'm whole heartedly a pvp player every mmo I have played has pvp minus one and that was ddo( which technacly does have pvp but not really the way most people would think). So now that I got that out of the way.......

Just because an mmo isn't FFA does not make it care bear, I can understand people's gripes and wanting things certain ways but like I said earlier if it's not remotely close to what you want there's probably a better game out there for you. Gonna site the obvious example here, DAOC. Would you call that a care ear game, I don't think so. Yet to our surprise it's a faction based pvp system, much like ......................................TESO. And was pretty dang succesful. I can guarantee that this game is gonna be succesful on many different levels cause of that alone. Any idea on how many folks have been waiting for the DAOC successor. A lot.

Anyways I don't go blind for a game cause I enjoy an ip or else I would be going crazy defending tor right now but guess what I'm not. With the little info we have gotten, it's been keeping me pretty positive and anxious for the game to come out.

I'm a fan of the 3 faction pvp angle.
I love open world
The game mechanics as they have described it has made it sound very promising(dcuo has spoiled me with its action based combat dodge block rolls.....oh wait that sounds a lot like teso)
A vast area to explore

Some things do bother me though(well one thing) and that's the main story . I do everything with my wife from pve to pvp. I hope the main story isn't to overwhelming or requires a lot of time investment cause I like groups of people not just me myself and I.

So overall with the info that I have been given I think this game is gonna be great. The parts I like def out way the parts I don't so I'm gonna stick with it till they prove to me it's not worth it.

http://www.zenimax.com/news_pressrelease10.25.07.htm

"The proceeds of the investment will be used to fund future growth, increase game development and publishing, facilitate acquisitions, and finance massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs)."

And that was just from an investment. That $300 million won't have all gone into the MMO, but TESO will have received more funding than just this one investment. Given that a whole new studio and team needed to be put together, I wouldn't be surprised if the total cost is larger than $300 million.
