Feedback on 1.6

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 11:51 am

As you know patch hasn't come to us PS3 users yet.

But it has come to the other platforms and so I'd like to know what you're thoughts on it are.

Is horse combat fun?
Mounted combat is brilliant if you know how to use it. You have to employ the tactics that cavalry used in real life. I personally have had no trouble killing things melee or ranged. You just have to keep moving and circling. I'm really pleased with it.

No warhammers allowed?
You can use warhammers. I find that two handed weapons are the best to use tbh, and your character swings them with one hand.

Did you even read my post?
yes you said it was the same as before wich i entirely disagree with because me and 3 of my friends have noticed a significant damage difference between now and pre 1.6 I realized this through playing the game not looking at the numbers and i calculated the formula out with all relavent smithing buffs and skill increases and the damage for my daedric bow should be 202 not 152 like its been displaying and causing post 1.6

If that's true then maybe they're tuning them down to make the corssbow seem heavier?

seems kind of stupid to do that considering crossbows also have performance differences than bows. hell increasing the damage on crossbows by a few more points than a bow would create a huge increase through smithing and other buffs. and why nerf something only to replace it with something just as powerefull?

Unfortunately, 1.6 messes with mods, like the Unofficial Patch. I'm not sure if I want to play without the mod, play with it and hope that I don't come across any of the issues myself, or just take a hiatus from Skyrim.

It seems like Bethesda rushed 1.6 out just so they could get the Dawnguard beta rolling, and it wasn't ready.

The mounted combat is OK, but it takes a little while to get used to how it works.

On roads or other open area with beasts or melee and archer type enemies it is. But it's annoying against mages and other magic users or if it's used in area which is filled with rocks and trees.

For me terrible patch which bugged my game in way i cant play any more. Yes i use mods they worked fine before patch 1.6 and im not going uinstal them. Im not going reinstal game. Im not going to start new fresh game becouse i spend to much time on my character to trash it. I will wait for patch which repair patch 1.6. If it will be not repaired im not going to buy DLC. I wish go back to patch 1.5 and play normal... For me its big epic fail which B. has done with this patch. PC user

Why does everybody complain about mounted combat? The only problem with it is that you can't use magic on it, which I'm sure will be added eventually.

As for "very hard to kill somebody" while on a horse....I've got to disagree. Once you get used to it and know when to time your swings, mounted combat is VERY efficient, especially so in dealing with hordes of enemies which you normally couldn't.

What I personally do when mounted is either use a bow or a 2-hander. I usually prefer using the 2-hander, and the strategy I deploy with it is sort of in and out, in a manner similar to jousting. I'll hold RT with my battleaxe/great sword, which basically readies up a power attack. The nifty thing is, when you're on horseback and do this, it doesn't power attack as soon as you hold RT, but rather holds the weapon mid-air, ready to strike as soon as you let go of the button. I basically use this to my advantage and let go when I get near the enemy, then I gallop in the other direction a little, turn around, prepare a power attack and start galloping towards them again.

I've been able to take on every enemy this way and it feels really epic. Try it out. =D

YES YES YES...Thank you! finnaly someone sees the value and usefullness, the rest of you must be [censored] 9year olds who just picked up your first xbox game and played a muture game for the 1st time. mounted combat is extremely efffective and fun, especially with 2 handers, this is how i hunt giants and mammoths who would otherwise luanch me to the two moons, now i set out from white run on my war horse and do a sweep of the land with my battle axe and collect some ginat toes and mammoth tusks on the way to rorikstead, tidy profit for twnty minutes of FUN riding....mounted combat is the most fun riding iv had since all the good lookin women packed up and left my town ;)

Horse combat with bows is good, not great, but useable.
Horse combat with melee weapons, well, is less than useable. Its just one attack over and over again on only one side of the horse. I could barely kill something.
And I have been experiencing a drop in frame rate from time to time, that happens a lot and my game froze for no reason once since the patch. So those could be problems.
That's pretty much what I got out of it.
yea if you hit the left bumber he attacks on the other side so he does attack on both sides but still a bit better.

If you have mods installed and the 1.6 patch seems to have critically broken your game, I don't see how you'd expect the next patch to fix the issue. It could very well be conflicts with the mods.

Don't forget Mammoth Cheese bowls... Mmmmm... they compliment the crunchy Giant Toes. If you're a magic user Mammoth Cheese is part of the recipe for Elswyre Soup (sp?), which is a pretty decent buff for magic.

Is horse combat fun?
Not really. Most enemies approach the horse too quickly to make use of the option, and having to move away, take aim, and fire before they close in just hasn't been worth the effort.

Then there's the issue of the camera swapping angles when changing out weapons/arrows.

For giggles, I tried fighting a dragon on horseback last night.

When you get the patch, try it.

Then you'll understand.

By the way, have you seen a horse head around here? Mine's gone.

I haven't had a proper chance to try the horseback combat (as my save is in a Dwemer ruin, right now), but I think that the patch caused some sort of weird, book related bug.

Mounted combat is strange, aiming correctly is really difficult since the (melee) weapon doesnt hit where you aim. But when you use a bow on horseback, it's hilarious to troll giants and mammoths. Back when 1.6 was beta, I used to kill whole giant camps by riing in circles and shooting arrows at those morons.

If on the PC, can you choose to go with an earlier patch?

Ask someone who hasn't updated yet if you can have his .exe, you probably also need some of the .bsa files. If you've done that, don't go into online mode in Steam.

Okay, I'm probably being extremely stupid but is this even if I haven't installed the game yet?

Well, if you got Skyrim as physical (retail) copy, you have version 1.0 after the install and can keep that. If you got it via Steam, you have to install it (1.6) and than ask someone for older game files.

But it's not sure if it will work and if you haven't installed it yet, I can't see a good reason for using anything else than the latest version (1.6).

I'm looking at getting the mods compiled by TheCompiler (S.T.E.P). So I want to stick with an older patch for a little while, to give the mods a chance to catch up, so to speak.

I like mounted combat, as others have written, if you want to hit your targets with a melee weapon, you must use a two-handed weapon. This is also a great argument to petition Bethesda for pole-arms as fighting from horsebackis easier with longer weapons (like lances  ).
