Why does everybody complain about mounted combat? The only problem with it is that you can't use magic on it, which I'm sure will be added eventually.
As for "very hard to kill somebody" while on a horse....I've got to disagree. Once you get used to it and know when to time your swings, mounted combat is VERY efficient, especially so in dealing with hordes of enemies which you normally couldn't.
What I personally do when mounted is either use a bow or a 2-hander. I usually prefer using the 2-hander, and the strategy I deploy with it is sort of in and out, in a manner similar to jousting. I'll hold RT with my battleaxe/great sword, which basically readies up a power attack. The nifty thing is, when you're on horseback and do this, it doesn't power attack as soon as you hold RT, but rather holds the weapon mid-air, ready to strike as soon as you let go of the button. I basically use this to my advantage and let go when I get near the enemy, then I gallop in the other direction a little, turn around, prepare a power attack and start galloping towards them again.
I've been able to take on every enemy this way and it feels really epic. Try it out. =D
