Fighting corruption in Riften?

Wow. I seem to have struck a nerve there. Thanks all, I'll waste no more time on that trashbag of a town.

It's not that bad. The house is cozy but has everything you need. The weather in Riften is foggy but around it's always sunny and when (IF) they open the third city gate, you'll be very close to Morrowind and Cyrodil :)

Yeah, I felt really disappointed when I couldn't do anything to help clean up Riften :(. Hoping there will be some sort of mods or DLC that will fix this. Even one of the npc teased my by saying that it would only take a couple of guards to wipe out the thieves guild in the ratway, but it turns out I could only truely kill one of them.

I'm pretty sure that, despite appearances, Jarl Laila is in Maven's pocket, so she's not interested in truly cleaning up Riften. She is interested, however, in looking like she is trying to clean up Riften.

If you ask around town, you'll find that is very much the case. Even the Jarl admits to deferring to Maven.

I. for one, like Riften just the way it is. A little corruption can be useful, although I do wish I could tell off Maven now that the Thieves Guild doesn't need her anymore.

Since this is the spoilers forum I can say that the thieves guild gets better after you join. They're still thieves but at least they arent running a protection racket anymore.

No they just steal thousands in gold and send a lot of innocent people to jail. And we don't know there not running the protection racket. They simply aren't having you do it anymore.

What's worse is, if you side with the Imperials, she will become Jarl.

She becomes Jarl in Stormcloaks too.

I'd love the chance to destroy the TG and its protectors as part of a quest. It might be a possible as DLC, but the argument would be that it could only be carried out one way, as the alternative is already in the game. Still like to see it as a DLC though.

Really wish I could do something about Maven:
Maven: "Piss me off and I'll send the Dark Brotherhood after you"
Me: "What Brotherhood? Ji'rasha destroyed them"
Maven: " "

Yes, this. It..was immediately visible to me that some options were available, and others were just not.

But on the topic of making it DLC, I...I hate the idea of paying even more money for a feature that could have and should have been in the game.

Hey Bethesda? Want to get me back into your game? Give me free content.

I still can't wait till I can see that [censored] Maven being executed. I'd love to see a quest DLC to the main game.
I don't even need a new map.

Just make your own quest and kill them all.

It's unfortunate you can't kill Maven though unless you use console commands which I can't use on my Xbox. :pinch:

I really think there should be a FREE dlc to kill off the thieves guild, I mean beth added dialog saying "it'll only take a few guards to kill of the thieves guild" and with that I only think it's fair if we get to actually kill them, it could be as simple as a "kill x, x, x, x, x, x, and x for y item (s), while I believe that would be boring and could be done better I demand at least that. (and I'm even almost exclusively playing characters who would prefer the guild alive.

Hell, they oughta just include the changes in patches so we don't have to download them separately. In the short span that I have decided to be on this forum again, I have heard a lot of people suggesting more of the game options that should already be in the game as DLC.

Tell me, do you actually think Bethesda is willing to allow you to permanently remove one the main guilds of the entire series without saying it won't be canon. Before you say "but you can kill the DB" you have to realize that Cicero and Babette are still alive if you kill the DB, meaning that they can eventually rebuild the DB whereas if you could kill the Thieves Guild you'd destroy the entire guild. Nobody seems to remember that books like "The Real Barenziah" have always said Riften was the Thieves Guild HQ so it was pretty obvious this would be the last bastion of the Thieves Guild in all of Tamriel considering how hard times have been for the Guild. What I find ironic about all of this is there was a thread back in February on whether the community wanted a darker Thieves Guild and DB. It turns out that an overwhelming majority of people wanted the TG and DB to be much darker yet now people are complaining that they aren't good anymore. Guess the community never can make its mind up.

I don't feel the need to kill all of the Thieves Guild! they are not hostile towards me. I believe in taking the TG down a peg or two, and restoring power to the Jarl.

The Thieves Guild in Riften is just....the Riften Thieves Guild.

Rival guilds pop up.

It's not like Nocturnal won't found a new one or there's not the Cyrodill Thieves Guild or the Morrowind Thieves guild etc, etc.

The Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim seems to be IT vs. the Thieves Guild is just the local mafia.

That's my take at least.

Yes it could, but the reason they're essential is so you'll always have the chance to join them. (they don't want you to close off achievements)
