Filthy Textures

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 6:22 am

That's what it looks like on Xbox, at least for me.

Me too.

I've played Skyrim both installed and from the disc and no matter what I do I get texture that are as low res as the OP.

Bethesda REALLY needs to get this fixed.

You do realise that if Skyrim had textures which were on par with Witcher 2, then it would be a slideshow on the consoles?

This is most definitely some kind of driver/ graphics card issue...

This^ or something else in his system.

I've got the newest driver from AMD/ATI (never use Steam for that!) and obviously a Radeon. The screen looks way better than the pics OP posted.

BTW i got my Skyrim today... :celebration:

Lovely. I will not play at MAX settings. If even at max settings the graphics aren't amazing, I'll be happy enough.

Now, let's play!

I bought this game yesterday and couldn't play yet.

Hope I enjoy.

I don't get the 360 complaints. Is this on specific types of 360s? I've seen 5 different live streams and captures from multiple people and I haven't seen anything close to the OPs post other than those two faded texture shots on the one website...

Ladies and gentlemen, this is why you don't flash your cards or unlock cores in your CPUs. You break things. Amen.

(lol@u)

It's all stable, did an overnight Prime95 with no problems

TES Arena? LOL

lol

Here is a screenshot showing a closeup of a wall texture that's I've just taken:

As you can see, no where near as bad as any in the OP. He's clearly lowered the details on purpose or changed something in his control panel by mistake. Such as lowering the detail from Quality to Performance.

Yeah, I like turning down the details just so I can troll about my favourite game series. :/

U just wanted an excuse to look at the girl's briasts.

Lmao.

I couldn't find anything in the AMD control panel about mip-mapping, but i have most things set to high-quality or application controlled anyway.

and on a serious note, i'm redownloading from steam (taking ages) and hopefully the re-install will put things right. let you know soon.

My game looks better and I'm playing on medium. Something weird is going on there, it shouldn't look like that on ultra.

Same here.

I'm no expert but from my experience it definately looks like a driver issue.

Glitch? My PS3 has better textures, and my friend's PC copy is much sharper than my PS3.

This is almost certainly a Catalyst issue. Go to the control center, Gaming > 3D App Settings > Disable Catalyst AI, Mipmap Detail Level = Quality.

That will solve most issues with games. Here are my full settings:

SMOOTHVISION Anti-aliasing - App controlled
SMOOTHVISION Anisotropic - App controlled
Catalyst AI - Disable checked
Mipmap Detail - Quality
Wait for Vertical Refresh - Always off
Adaptive Anti-aliasing - Unchecked
OpenGL settings - Unchecked

I really don't have any section in catalyst concerning mip-maps. I have a catalyst AI section on texture filtering, which I can't disable, however i can disavle "surface format optimisation" will that make a difference?

I've been told it's a technical issue and Bethesda is working to fix it. Not sure how you change the fact that the game shipped with 512x512 textures in 2011 but I made a thread in H&S per moderator suggestion http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1257146-pc-textures/page__gopid__19166957#entry19166957

I have my settings on the absolute highest on everything and it looks pretty decent. There are some bad spots, but it is better than Oblivion. Using crossfire 5870x2 with no issues.

I think that's a known texture bug; obviously not what the game is supposed to look like. Until it is resolved somehow it's not something you'll have to look at too often.
