So I finished Dawnguard......

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:40 pm

So i finally finished dawnguard, no fast travelling,on master, with a pure mage, and I must say, great job bethesda, aside from Serana constantly getting stuck, this DLC was absolutely class. Soul cairn = wet dream for necromancy, and the forgotten vale absolutely breath taking, and absolutely huge, all in all, an amazing experience, [censored] class act guys. :foodndrink: :goodjob: :celebration:

A positive post? What is the world coming to!?

I've been tearing up Skyrim with my vampire lord for around 40 hours and I too have been loving it.

Especially all the new enemies, have you seen the high level spriggans!? Earth mothers are purple, huge, and RIDICULOUSLY powerful, all the new high level enemies just shows bethesda was listening, and they added all these guys for people that want to get to 81. ,

Dont listen to all the negative posts, if you dont constantly fast travel, you'll be good, although some instances call for carriages *cough* traveling from riften to solitude *cough* . Plus there are some interesting things you will experience along the way if you make stops in towns. I mean there are the issues where if you fast travel vampire groups will pop up, but this problem is nothing new, and happened with dragons before the dlc was released, hence why i dont fast travel. and if i do its to a location right outside of a town, not in the middle.

Must I do my obligatory comment about it also occuring if you DON'T fast travel?

Other than that, yes it's an interesting DLC. I wouldn't say it's worth $20, maybe $15...but what do I know about DLC and prices!

but those occurances are not a big deal, i made a thief recently who is not a combat based character, and he had no problem with the vampires that attacked the town at levl 6.

I can second this. The Forgotten Vale was huge IMHO, almost too big - got dizzy navigating some of the places. I checked my hours since my first save, and found it a little over 30 hours. I did do a few short side quests, but mostly this was all DG related. I never did see the dwarves Crossbows though.... Weird. I hope I can still get them somehow...

Some of the maps were VERY well done, and I did enjoy the finale... Two thumbs up. And I did not have any really bad glitches... I did get stuck in the scenery once, but that happened in the vanilla game once as well.

Overall - I loved it.

I dont like how they stuck you with a vampire even when you join the dawnguard. But other than that it was all right.

Seriously though, I found Dawnguard to be highly enjoyable and I hope they manage to make the next DLC even better.

QFT.

Loved Dawnguard. I had a major glitch early on where I couldn't play it and I was upset, but once I resolved that and I could actually play Dawnguard I loved it. Save for some periodic freezes, especially in Soul Cairn, I thought it was excellent DLC. The DG quest-side was better, IMO, than most of the quests in Skyrim. The only thing I wished for was more diversified side-quests for the DG. They're very repetitive after you collect all the dwemer stuff to get the better crossbows.

Did you try clearing your cache and deleting & reinstalling the updates that fixed most problems I had and I was in the beta it helped even after beta came out as well. 1.6 if not installed properly does weird things to Skyrim and so does not clearing the cache for a long time or playing for 3+ hours without giving your console time to cool down. (including lots of freezing)

BTW installing skyrim to the HDD fixes a lot of bugs as well and its only a 4 GB install I've had the game installed since 11/11/11 and have had no major problems with it (save the occasional freezing due to overheating [which is cut down by installing the game as well])

I love all the little things it added that fans asked for a lot.
Crossbows, being able to craft arrows, more powerful dragons..
Yesterday I found one that I hadnt realised was there before, but major port towns now have a ferryman you can hire to ferry you to another port.
Awesome :)

I completely agree, the forgotten vale was completely unexpected, and [censored] amazing. I hope they keep up with stuff like that.

also the music when exploring that place was the best.

They made the vampire and dawnguard questlines almost the same.

Rather cheap if you ask me. Take some more time and make them different.

Aye, agreed with the OP, really enjoyed it. The forgotten vale was fantastic, and home to one of the most powerful (and moving) sections I've played in a TES game. Don't want to say much more about it for fear of spoilers, but overall, well played Beth. :)

Wait until you see the falmer warmonger O_O :rock:There are a lot of new enemies that were put into play for people that are level 81, the Spriggan Earth mother, and as stated, the falmer war monger, are just two. The warmonger has some RIdICULOUS poisons on him.

This is exactly what I do and I have yet to experience much issue with vampire attacks on towns.

The folks in Riften killed the 2 Master Vamps and their Thrall before I even had a chance to get into the fight.
