Finished the Dark Brotherhood quest line.

I'm just looking for peoples reactions on the DB quest chain. Honestly, I hated that most of the other members were killed. But, that was kind of made up by being able to summon Lucien Lachance's freakin' ghost, Shadowmere, and the new Blade of Woe.

It's interesting to note that players can also choose
Spoiler
to destroy the DB themselves, should they decide not to join and to assist a certain legion commander. I wonder which ending will be considered canon

Yeah, choice is good. Plus, why did you put that in a spoiler tag? I have a warning in the title.

I am glad that they all died because they were not proffesional assassins anymore like they were in OB. They were just thugs in skyrim and they did not even listen to the nightmother like the DB is supposed to. I hate though that at the end when you complete every quest the night mother gives you random pointless missions of
1. get contract for night mother
2. fast travel to city and talk to contact
3. kill target
4 fast travel back to sancuary
5. repeat

Because probably not everyone at this point has realized that the DB quest can be approached from two different sides... ;)

Which is why I put the warning in the title. If people are too lazy to read it they deserve to be spoiled.

So it is over once you complete the "main quest?"

I have bought the 19k house package for the sanctuary and am currently killing everyone the Night Mother tells me to as well as people Nazir gives me.

Just glad that Astrid got what she deserved; power hungry wretch. I was mad that the others died so on the boat with the emperor I assassinated every...single...one...of...them. I also stripped them naked. Finally ended up leaving that boat with 800lbs lol.

Anyways, I preferred this over having to kill everyone in the dark brotherhood myself like I did in oblivion. That was amazingly strangely emotional for me.

Yes, but these can be quite the cash cow if you keep doing them. Besides, like Lucien said, "Practice does make perfect."

You get a ton of money, a new home, and everyone but the awesome sarcastic guy dies. That is what I call a good ending.

The DB ending svcked. The entrance exam for joining the DB was freaking awesome.
I have done all the contracts from Nazir, he eventually runs out, and I have done 4 from the night mother thinking it might be like the thieves guild where you have to do more quests to improve the hideout(DB hideout svcks too) So you have the huge DB hideout with a baby vamp, a corpse, Nazir, and that looney Cicsero, then two associates. Its like they did the DB as an afterthought to the thieves guild.

The Thieves Guild once you complete the main quest you have to do odd jobs until they give you special assignments, then you get four merchants, tons of followers(all named NPC's, but I can't find one that will follow me), and a set of rockin armor(dont like the look but stats are good).
So DB is restored...yea right, but the thieves guild actually gives you an underground city and tons of money.

I actually really liked the Brotherhood questline, even if it was a bit predictable at times. Knew what Astrid was up to as soon as she tried to control my escape route.

There weren't really any "awesome" murders though - in Oblivion you had to drop a trophy head on someone and cause havoc in a house full of irritating people. The most fun I had in Skyrim was giving the cook directions on what to put in the soup.

In terms of aftermath, Thieves' Guild is the best of the factions by far - DB and (especially) College of Winterhold are both pretty dull by comparison. Companions aren't bad but could have been better.

Is nobody bothered by the fact that you kill the Emperor but see no consequences? IMO it was a pretty stupid move to make the DB questline about killing the Emperor in this game, for many obvious reasons (we have Stormcloaks vs. Imperial Legion, the Thalmor, etc.).

Very true. I don't think the Dark Brotherhood will see another game given the circumstances of choice.

I am seriously dissapointed by the ending, all that build up to have the "revelation" that the old ways are best, then they ignore them and have the listener of the dark brotherhood do the scut work while everyone else loiters around the trash heap of the old sanctuary too useless to even tidy up a little. also where the heck did those iniates come from? last I saw the brotherhood was on the edge of extinction desperate for damn near everything, loyal cultist/minions dont just grow on trees.

I was expecting to need to re establish sanctuarys in the major citys, recruit a new black hand and more or less play the part of leader of a cult of assassins. mabey make a few decisions on policy(recruitment, contract prices, arranging supplies) strong arm or manipulate a few local leaders into submission.you know, rebuild a nation wide network of assassins

this is almost the same ending they did in oblivion

dropping a trophy on someones head.....perhaps you didnt play the bark brother hood because of the clone quest where you drop a statue on the bride? Those quests were exactly alike. And as a side note more people and guards seemed more concerned about someone killing a bride at her wedding than their emperor dying at dinner. WTF

He was a double sent by the empire, not the real emperor. Do your research next time before you complain.

Edit: For those who might be too thick-headed to take my word on the matter, additional scrutiny and/or actually listening to what people say in the game

"Run across the bridge and you will be greeted by Commander Maro. He reveals that the Emperor you killed was simply a decoy. Maro will reveal the Legion's plans - someone from the Dark Brotherhood was a traitor and revealed to Maro your plans to assassinate the Emperor. Maro agreed to allow the Brotherhood to continue it's business as long as they allowed you to be captured. However, being vengeful over his son's death by the hands of the Brotherhood, he tells you that the sanctuary is currently being wiped out."

Yes, you kill a decoy. But you also kill the Emperor after that.

What was that you said about doing research?

Actually finish the questline before you have a go at others, it makes you look like less of an idiot.

I didn't drop a statue on the bride, I sniped her with an arrow and ran like hell. The quest didn't specify a method of killing her, only offered a bonus if it was while she addressed her guests, so no, it was not a "clone" or "exactly alike". Even if it had been the same, that wouldn't exactly make it more memorable or interesting this time around, would it? My point stands.

Their Emperor didn't die at dinner, either. It was a double. After you kill him later in the plot, people do indeed remark on it quite a lot.
