Five years, no progress

Lot of WoW players on this board. Also a lot of pointless whining? Coincidence, dear Watson?

That's an assumed conclusion in which one group is inferior to another based on the type of pastime they enjoy. Completely bogus proposition

The whining comes from all quarters, not players of another game

Same here I got sick of wow, when blizz stopped caring for there customers and more about there money. WoW up WotLK was great. Then, they started becoming lazy. It's showing since DEC they have lost 1.8 mil costumers.

I thought this was due to making the game working on the old console systems hardware?

Diablo 3 is being made for the PC only so it's doing it right. They said they may do a dumbed down version for the console but don't cross your fingers.

Hopefully the next Elder Scrolls game will be done for PC first then make a cloned dumbed down version for the older hardware consoles.

The next Elder Scrolls game will most likely be released on newer consoles. Pretty sure there aren't gonna be that many more games released for these consoles.

In 2012, this game still has no Unicode support. It uses 1-bit encodings, custom fonts and its own keyboard input method. That is unacceptable.

There's no any support for cases, unlike proper games like WoW. So if we have design a mod, we have to mutilate our language trying making all those immutable strings to be grammatically correct. This is again, unacceptable.

Where's the progress from Morrowind/Oblivion? Does company completely doesn't care about non-US customers?

He's right! We need to force Bethesda to change! C'mon folks! Let's go Occupy Bethesda! We'll sit in a big drum circle in their lobby while demanding free food, water, bathrooms and wifi as we complain about how mean and outdated they are! C'mon! All together now! WE'RE HERE! WE'RE UNCLEAR! GET USED TO IT! 1 2 3 4 we want unmoddable games no more! 5 6 7 8 do what we want or we'll post with hate!

Edit: Also, why all the WoW hate? It isn't that bad... The OP acknowledges that it is at least a good game.

Just like with the CoD hate , it's the whole "be cool by bashing on the thing with higher sales/more popularity/whatever" deal.

wow has also been out for like 7 years now and their graphics are bad

Depends on what standards you're using to judge "graphics".

Aesthetically, I think WoW looks wonderful. The overall art style is really good & consistant. (some of the super-epic armors are on the silly side, but the world look/etc is top notch.)

edit: oh, and.... Unicode?

i rate all graphics on realism. a pastel'y created-with-crayons environment like in wow doesnt quite meet my standards.

graphics wise (and character building wise) , Rift is the MMO version of skyrim... but even at that, its a single player game vs mmo, and is deemed pretty much invalid

Cant wait for WoW to die out, its earned billions upon billions and keeps getting worse with every expansion, hopefully mists of pandaria will seal the deal because it looks as rediculous as ever, vanilla wow was epic, though. no silly looking races ect, Skrym is 10X the game WoW is now and you dont pay money to play the damn game.

Haha, this brings back memories of the infinite discussions of expansion vs vanilla WoW, or the "my class svcks" arguements, etc. I will not argue about it simply because I stopped playing about a year ago because it takes too much damn time. It's a commitment, like another job.

But I am sure the OP was not comparing the gameplay of Skyrim to that of WoW's, he's comparing the modding capability, which I am totally ignorant of.

Well, the WoW gamers will disappear from here as soon as the novelty wears off. Can anyone please explain to me what OP was trying to say, though?

Hopefully there are new consoles by then.

Anyway, just throwing this out there but...

Modding (without the use of an official modding program) was always easier with older programs. It's all relative. Modding the original Doom would be a cake walk now (especially compared to games today) but it wasn't so much so then. Was WoW really more modding friendly when it first came out? Or is it just more modding friendly now after 7 or more years of modder community development (Techniques, understanding of the game, supporting software, etc.)?

My system is quite mediocre at the moment yet I haven't had any crashes.

If you can do a better job, make your own game. If it's awesome I'll buy it from your site, even at an inflated price (~$100). If you won't do this, shutup and be happy with what you got.

I'll be straight. I get irritated when people compare every damn game, single and multi player to WoW.

I can't commenting the modding because I know nothing about it, but damn I hate people comparing games to WoW.

In 2012, this game still has no Unicorn support.

Yes, the lack of unicorns is disheartening to say the least.

I think that is a big part of it. I recall all the modding issues back in "year one" of WoW. Someone makes a mod because something in WoW svcks and Blizzard does a patch breaking most of the mods. So bunches scramble to update slash redo their mods so they'll work... Until the next patch breaks them again. The original poster has a point but its again like comparing apples to oranges. WoW has been out for seven years and is very well understood modding-wise. Skyrim is less than a month old and while it uses a lot of old bits, the game has a much shorter projected lifespan. We are looking at, what, a year or two before its sales whither to near zero? WoW has been out for seven years and has been charging everyone playing a monthly fee for most of those seven years. Blizzard has a much greater incentive to be more user friendly to the folks its charging every month than Bethesda who is trying to make the most attractive games possible for one time sales with a couple of possible xpacs.

Given the different scenarios I can't blame Bethesda for pushing what they are comfortable with as far as they can take it whether "modders," a relatively small percentage of purchasers to begin with, like it or not.

So many knee-jerk reactions in this thread. He's talking about modding. When it comes to modding, WoW has amazing support. Say what you will about the game, the freedom to mod it is spectacular.

I don't really consider UI changes and texture replacements to be very high on the list amazing mod support.
