Five years, no progress

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 12:06 am

In 2012, this game still has no Unicode support. It uses 1-bit encodings, custom fonts and its own keyboard input method. That is unacceptable.

There's no any support for cases, unlike proper games like WoW. So if we have design a mod, we have to mutilate our language trying making all those immutable strings to be grammatically correct. This is again, unacceptable.

The game uppercases several text in UI, but for some crazy reason designers decided not to use standard Windows APIs for that, but hardcoded the entire uppercase table. Guess what? The characters 0xF7 and 0xFF do not get translated properly, because the hardcoded table is for 1252 codepage.

Where's the progress from Morrowind/Oblivion? Does company completely doesn't care about non-US customers?

This.
Edit: Shouldn't this be in the modding section?

Cant wait for WoW to die out, its earned billions upon billions and keeps getting worse with every expansion, hopefully mists of pandaria will seal the deal because it looks as rediculous as ever, vanilla wow was epic, though. no silly looking races ect, Skrym is 10X the game WoW is now and you dont pay money to play the damn game.

did you consciously just say this?

no, a proper game is Rift... WoW is outdated, bad graphics, no customization, and 100% cookie cutter builds with pretty much zero end game content past raiding.

Hey don't be comparing Beth to Bliz...
Also, modding is supposed to be something that people find out themselves, not something that the company wanted to give you.

Edit: Also, why all the WoW hate? It isn't that bad... The OP acknowledges that it is at least a good game.

So many knee-jerk reactions in this thread. He's talking about modding. When it comes to modding, WoW has amazing support. Say what you will about the game, the freedom to mod it is spectacular.

Guys can you actually read what he wrote in context. From a coding perspective Blizzard games, including WoW, are as solid as a rock. I've had Skyrim crash more in one day than I have all of blizzards titles over a span of 15+ years. As far as modding yea it would have been nice to have the innards be up to date. It's a great game and it looks cutting edge to me but when you look deep and examine it a lot of things about the game are just old and lazy.

I thought this was due to making the game working on the old console systems hardware?

Diablo 3 is being made for the PC only so it's doing it right. They said they may do a dumbed down version for the console but don't cross your fingers.

Hopefully the next Elder Scrolls game will be done for PC first then make a cloned dumbed down version for the older hardware consoles.

^ Because they are bored of tedious WoW and need some other game forum to moan on, cant wait for it to die out, damn blizzard, think they can keep raking in the money, and take as mutch time as they want to release Diablo 3, that in the end will be another failure of a game.

The internet is a futile tool for describing my apathy for this tempest in a teapot. Cleaning my toilet is more interesting than reading a rant about "proper games" and how it took five years to make no progress. I'm frankly sick of the drama queens.

I was paying attention and actually cared about what he was saying until
unlike proper games like WoW.

Now I don't care. I was gonna research and find out what this meant, but not after that.

wow has also been out for like 7 years now and their graphics are bad

its kinda hard to crash on a game that can be run pretty much with on-board graphics and 1 gig of ddr1 ram....

its apples and oranges. a new game with amazing graphics vs a 7 year old game with [censored] graphics.

OBVIOUSLY the older game will like wow will be more stable cuz it only comes down for a 40 hours each month for fixes (which usually end up in more glitches and [censored] going wrong)

crashing isnt an issue. i only crash when waiting or leaving buildings sometimes.. but it takes like, 20 seconds or so to get back in and continue on... not a big deal. and im sure with the game being only a couple weeks old, patches will fix it.

The first rule of World of Warcraft is dont talk about World of Warcraft with any other gamers, ever.
The Second Rule of World opf Warcraft is its not a socialable topic.

I know I usually condemn people for not making good arguments but damn, World of Warcraft, really?

If people would stop using "wow" in their arguments, people would actually listen to them. OP is actually right regarding modding, but he shot himself in the foot there.

the next elder scrolls will be when the new xbox is out because the 360 has only 2 or 3 years left in its cylce so microsoft will have a new system out before the next elder scrolls is even close to being a full game considering its a good 5 years between titles. now what you should be asking is if they will do that with fallout 4 which might be one of the last 360 games or one of the launch games for the new xbox

It's the community who turn into complete cavemen as soon as either WoW or CoD is mentioned.
