For those of us not playing New Vegas on a PC...

Post » Thu Dec 30, 2010 2:23 am

Too bad we can't pick more than one option, I would pick them all. For me, I chose because I don't want to.

I play on the 360 because I am fed up with trying to play games on the computer. I am tired of trying to tweak it to get a game to run. All I do is put disk in and play. Ok now we have the option to install on the hard drive so the dvd is not being used. So I don't have to worry about tweaking or getting new drivers or anything. I put in and play.

I don't really care for mods. Way too many people go about mods. So do we play the game or do we play for mods? For me, I rather play for the game. Yes I know mods can be add so much to a game, but agian, mods are not everything. I am perfectly fine playing without them.

Also I hate upgrading my PC to play a game. I am not as smart as alot of people seem to be on the forum and make a gaming system. I do not kno whow to get these cheap prices. If I tried to make a gaming rig it would cost me over $1000 so I don't have the smarts to do it. Also I don't have the patiance to get it to work, and also as I said before, I don't want to fiddle with it. Turn on, and play is what I want.

I just hope that TES V will be for the 360. If not, then I will have to buy a new xbox what ever they call it, then. For me, it still will be cheaper and will last longer than buying a new or making a new gaming PC then. So for me it's convienance and $$$. For some they can get it cheaper, but I don't see it happening no matter what anyone says. Paying $500 for a new version of the xbox will still be cheaper than spending over a $1000 in Canada. Just because alot of people can make a custom computer, not everyone can. I am one of those people who can't.

So consoles all the way for me, be it 360 or PS 3.

For me, and I assume for the majority of us console players, it's simply because I just have no way of scrounging up $4,000-$10,000 for a PC that can run New Vegas on a good quality without any lag.

Wow, are you people really that delusional?

My computer was $600. I can play the game on max(Except AA is on 2x) with 1920 X 1080 resolution.

By the way, I love when people say they can't afford a gaming PC, then they go spend $1000 on a Mac that can't run crap.

You mean you'd rather not have the option to use the console and mods?
No. I mean I'd rather spend that £300 on something else. I don't know what yet. But I just know that I want to spend it on something other than a gaming computer. Is that a good enough reason for you?

In all seriousness though, I've never been that into PC gaming. I just have this thing in my head where I think that it's too much hastle. Which, for me, it probably is. I have the money lying about to buy the best gaming PC available. I don't know what that is, but I could buy it. And if I did I'd probably never get it working. And if by some fluke I did get it working, I'd probably never get the games to work on it.

Like buying more game for the consoles? Any more money I have to spend to upgrade the PC is less money I can spend on games.

My current rig was about a 20th of your max price wacky rig quote, but I will admit, it handles NV swimmingly but some more technologically demanding games put me in the mid settings area. But I also built it almost 2 years ago.

I prefer most of my gaming to be on PC, but I do like consoles as well. I love my racing to be on console. I will never buy a wheel and I really like how I can modulate steering and throttle on my PS3. Sports games on the console as well. I play most FPS on console to play with buddies, would prefer PC.

I personally feel like I can get myself more immersed into an RPG on a PC, maybe it's because my hands are doing things independently and I tend not to have my feet up on the desk when using the PC like when I use my console.

I j use my PS3 as I don't consider my computer as a gaming platform. I know it is the best gaming platform but I just use it for the internet and working. I have nothing against PC gaming, I even have KOTOR but after the hassle I couldn't see myself buying more PC games.

I like the pick up and play aspect of consoles and also the ease of gaming with my friends.

Way to take my comment out of context. I previously mentioned in that post that I can understand if you don't want to pay extra for them.
Well that's not what I said is it? There's plenty of reasons for not wanting to buy a gaming PC other than not being able to afford one. Such as,

1. Not wanting one.

or

2. Not wanting one.

I guess that's because they think they wouldn't be able to maintain Windows operating system. (viruses, drivers, stability, crashes, reinstalling Windows, etc)

I think you're referring to Pre-Windows XP.

Apple in general disgusts me. For a Mac you are basically buying a $400 computer and paying $600 for the Apple logo on the front.

I own a PS3 but not a PC. I had a laptop but it got a bad virus and now it's scrap.

I don't like many mods I see becuase they seem ...ugly? I dunno. Also most mods just make the game way easier and the world seems less solid if people can just put whatever they want in it. I don't need to live in a vertibird or ride a giant ant around Goodsprings in order to enjoy the Fallout experience. Then there are obvious cost issues, but I own a PS3 already so it's fine.

Yes, but PCs don't sit on top of my armoire

with a wireless PS3 controller that works perfectly for them.

The font size and the controls would still be designed for computer use.

Valid point.

PC version comes with native 360 controller support. :) If one uses the wireless receiver+controller or the wired controller and passes the video signal through their TV it's basically a 360, with better graphics and mods. Mine is set up to do so if I please. I just prefer the up close feel of the monitor. It draws me into the world more than a 40" TV 11 feet away.

Huh? Don't tell DarN that. The guy the makes (my favourite UI mod) DarNified UI (1 of many UI altering mods for Oblivion/Fallout 3 and now NV.) to return it to a more PC friendly version. The UI is a lot more console oriented.

I honestly don't think mods are anything special, and I've experienced them with Morrowind. They feel out of place, they aren't official (and so nothing in them could be considered canon), and they just aren't worth at least a few hundred more dollars, irritation from problems, and losing my comfortable spot in front of the TV (Yes, I know PCs connect to TVs. No, it still doesn't feel right.) .

Developers make the game, not modders. I'm here because I love the games Bethesda (or in this case, Obsidian) made just how they made them.

While I would like to have access to mods, I have a couple different reasons for using a console.

1. I like the feel of a control better than a keyboard, and yes I know there are PC controls, but those cost money, we'll get to that next.
2. Good quality computer + probable RAM upgrade + good video and sound cards if not included + probable hard drive upgrade to play newer games + controller because I don't like gaming on a keyboard + the fact computers often need maintenance/replacement = WAY outside my budget.

My 360 cost me $0 (yay Christmas) and the only hardware-related cost since then was $25 when I used up the built-in hard drive. There's no way I'd be able to get the all of the above listed in number 2 for Christmas, my birthday, or any other real or un-real holiday.

I just bought the ET1331G-05w, AKA the Wal-Mart E-Machines special, I only did that after squeezing 5 years of life out of my last computer, which by the way was cutting edge when I first got it. With this computer I can play Oblivion on minimum graphics (which I only have for PC because again, free) I know PC gaming is probably better, it's just damned expensive. Budget constraints mean I generally only play strategy games on my PC (consoles are svckish for those)

No, you can actually use an Xbox 360 controller for Fallout games on the PC.

I guess it is partly about what you are used to.
The idea of even trying to play a competitive online shooter with an xbox controller makes me shudder.

I grew up on Consoles, But got my first pc in 1999.

I've owned a 360 and a PS3, both i have since sold. I used that money to upgrade my PC. Also people tend to forget that console games cost 10-15 pound more than a pc game when released(UK) and all that money slowly adds up to pay for the next upgrade.

I guess i have been quite lucky to be honest as i never really have trouble with games not working on my rig nor do i have any crashes or major problems with fallout new vegas. *touch wood*

What made me sell my consoles and stick purely to PC gaming? simple... the mods for almost every game that comes out give me more than my moneys worth. Games like Morrowind,Oblivion,Fallout3 after a few playthroughs i would get bored... but with mods i can play the games for much longer! Heck, i still play Morrowind and Oblivion to this day.

At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference, some like to sit down on the sofa after a hard days work and enjoy a couple hours relaxing with their console... others such as my self don't mind spending a hour or two downloading a bunch of mods to make an already great game just perfect.

But all this crap about a gaming PC costing 4-10 grand is absolutely ridiculous... i am just a removal man i get paid peanuts and i've always been able to keep my pc top of the line. My girlfriend does suffer for this though... but hey, we all must make some sacrifices right? :D

the Oblivion engine is outdated, a self built PC for $500 could max it out.

55" 1080p TV
7.1 Surround
comfy couch
wireless PS3 controller

thats beats anything a PC can do, even with mods.. I had Fallout3 on the PC and hardly played it, plus the game plays really well with a controller and I find the PS3 controller very comfortable

1. No it doesn't, cause PC can do those things.

2. Some people prefer the game looking, player, running ALOT better over simply having a bigger viewing screen which looks like crud.

To me FO3 NV and Oblivion all had max shelf lives of 168 hours or less.

I hear people going on and on about how great these games are and how they've put in 200-500 hours etc etc and I must say Hats off to you Ironmen/women, FO3 and Oblivion in particular die very quickly without mods.

Mods are the only thing keeping me playing Oblivion to this day and FO3 was ursurped by NV only for the *story* NV offers (haven't done close to half the game and replayability is looking healthy) but when I do finish a large chunk of the game, Ill just tack on more mods to breath some life into NV when it eventually begins to sputter out. yes I have a console and quite frank it suffers from repetitionitis(not a word). its not that I love PC more then consoles. its that I can do so much more with it. come now people don't lie and say your consoles have NEVER had a period were it was collecting dust when you had the time the play it at one point or another.

The reason I use a PC is that you do not have to upgrade to play games...... then its just like a console, but you can print photos and browse the internet and stuff with it.
