For those of us not playing New Vegas on a PC...

Post » Thu Dec 30, 2010 2:36 am

For me, and I assume for the majority of us console players, it's simply because I just have no way of scrounging up $4,000-$10,000 for a PC that can run New Vegas on a good quality without any lag.

Dude, get over it, it doesn't cost that much. I paid $800, I don't think I've ever heard of any normal person paying $10000. No one was bashing consoles, don't get butthurt.

A $4k PC is rediculously overpriced. Try $1k for something that'll completely shatter pretty much every modern game. Plus you don't have to drop that all at once either. You can incrementally upgrade your current PC as funds are available.

Calm down, I'm merely curious as to why other people aren't using a PC for a game that is blatantly obviously a PC game ported over to the consoles.

that's exactly what I did, I paid $500 then just upgraded it for another $500, but I had to save up the money.

I don't have the space for a full sized desktop and my laptop don't exactly meet the minimum requirements.

I've not had a lot of cash and still managed to put together a gaming capable computer for about 300 pounds (500 dollars). Most plebs out there buy gimped laptops that can barely play Sims 2 for more than that.

No you're not. You're being smart because you think someone on the other thread said pc was better than consoles. You wouldn't have put an outrageous claim if you weren't being a jerkwad.

800$ total including incremental upgrades.

I hear people gloating on how they have 360 and PS3 but say a decent comp is expensive? blasphemy

Hmmm.... I thought it was a valid question. granted, you are over shooting a bit on estimated PC costs, but considering thats not what the discussion was meant to be about... who cares. Cost is still an issue for many, even at 800 bucks. ...For me, I'd just rather sit comfortably on my couch with a cup of coffee and make my visits to Fisto on my big screen tv. ;)

from another thread:

The people playing this on the Xbox or PS3 generally don't have $4,000-$6,000 lying around the house. I'd bet people that play on the consoles are the middle-class people who can't afford the PCs, otherwise I'd be playing it on a PC.

I'm actually what is considered an upper class person, but that would be if mooching off of my mother's financial standing counts. My mom has always known the value of money, having grown up as a war zone as a lower class citizen, so she never wasted much money on what she considers impractical things, including a gaming PC (and I sure don't know how to build one, nor would my mom let me try) and after being used to playing Playstations for so many years, I don't really want to waste money on one, either. I prefer my Playstations. I don't need to mess with them to get them to work, it's connected to my TV at all times, I've got free Netflix movies available for instant viewing, and it's a Blu-Ray player. Even after completing my current plans of attending medical school after college to work as an internist, I plan on using Playstations as my main platforms of choice.

I also know of many middle-class people who have gaming PCs, although those people (the ones I know) typically build their own computers for much cheaper.

You know you can play on a PC and use a large TV as output right?

Well, if I could afford a PC I would just hook it up to my TV in my room.

Which solves:
-Comfort issues
-Eye strain
-Screen size

I would also be playing with an Xbox Controller.

Which solves:
-I like controllers rather than mice and boards.

It would almost feel as if I were playing on the Xbox. The only thing different would be that:

-Better graphics
-Less lag
-Less loading times
-I get mods
-Community developed patches to problems

The long and short of it is that I REALLY need to get some money for a PC. :cryvaultboy:

Yes, but PCs don't sit on top of my armoire with a wireless PS3 controller that works perfectly for them. The font size and the controls would still be designed for computer use.

Being a PC gamer is a little pricey plus console is just more convenient and relaxing via my large HD TV & Couch

While that is completely true, I just feel like I'm missing out SOOO much by not being able to use the mods. Microsoft/Sony would bring in MASSIVE amounts of additional profit if they supported game modding.

They'd also have to massively increase their tech support department to handle the inevitable influx of "why don't my game work? I have mod XYZ with the optional dongcopter attachment." That's one of the big reasons why they don't, I'd imagine.

gamesas are the perfect example of why we bother with PC gaming, Morrowing, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and now NV all got hundreds of hours extra playtime thanks to mods.
But if I want to race a friend whilst having a beer, then console is the way to go!

Do some fact checking first my friend, I have a 500$ rig I built and it's more than good enough to run NV on high setting and the program system checker set it on high not me.

I don't have the money for it.
I don't have the knowdledge for it.
I don't have the patience for it.

It's not something possible for me at the moment.
Maybe when I get a real job I might be able to get a brand new PC and have someone else fix it with upgrades and all that crap but for the moment it's not in the best interest considering my financial situation.

Personally, I found The Sims 3 to be extremely addicting and fun on the PC. I love the mods for it too. (Awesome Mod FTW)

I grew up with consoles.
I don't care about mods. I prefer the game how it is.
I'd feel more likely to cheat.
The only thing a PC is to me is the internet.
I'm not much of a gamer anyway. My PS3 collected dust for months until Vegas released.

Well if you get the money, let me know, I'll sell you a good gaming computer for only $9000 so you don't have to spend that full $10000 that they usually cost. *cough* :shifty:

I guess that's because they think they wouldn't be able to maintain Windows operating system. (viruses, drivers, stability, crashes, reinstalling Windows, etc)
